This is how my hair is under my wigs
picture.php

I actually just unbraided tonight and will detangle, wash, deep condition and rebraid in a few days.

I do it just like this.

Matter fact, I am due to take this set of braids down and redo :)

I have 6-8 cornrows. As for a wig cap, it depends on what type of wig I have on. If I have on a curly wig I don't wear a cap but if it's a straight wig I will put on a wig cap. The longest I wear my wigs during the day is 4 hrs so it doesn't dry my hair out. I tried a satin scarf but it was too hot

I wear 7-8 cornrows, place satin scarf and then wig cap.

Another question for you ladies - Do you wash your cornrows (if you wear them), or do you take your braids out to do your wash, conditioner, etc.? My current process is to do my reggi every two weeks with my hair unbraided and then re-braid my hair, but I'm trying to figure out if it's ok to wash my hair in cornrows (during my off week) because my stylist claims that this will cause potential matting and tangles.

Your feedback/ experience is appreciated!

I co wash daily and shampoo once a week with the braids in. I only completely rebraid my hair once a month. I do major DCing or protein treatments when my hair is loose.

i have to take my cornrows out and redo them on wash day. other than spritzing with water/leave in/oil mixture, i can't wash with them--the back and front come loose. only the back crown will stay. i dont' think i have enough length. i'd love to be able to cowash in them. i can however, wash and condition, leaving them in, then detangling after a DC.

but i always have to redo them.

I wear one small braid across the nape and four cornrows going down. I pin them up so that they lay flat (if that makes sense). I've actually been thinking about fine tuning my wig regimen because I feel that my hair is thinning. :ohwell: Hopefully I'm overreacting. But I may leave the braids in for two weeks rather than wash every week and see if that helps.

I don't take my braids down often at all. I wash condition with them in . I can tell from feeling my braids that it is ok. I am natural, so even if I take my braids out, I put it in few plaits before washing and re-braid when my hair is dry.

Twists work the best for me because I get less breakage but I can't rinse them as easily (they untwist). So cornrows if I plan on rinsing frequently and don't want to redo anything.

This month, I braided the middle of my hair in this pattern starting from the back working my way forward in this looped, connected rows pattern.

Then I put 2 large braids on either side of my head for easy removal, so that I can blend my hair with my wigs.

I cornrow my hair every month using the deep moisture method, and I wear them for 4 weeks at a time. I do everything while in these cornrows- co-wash, deep condition, light pt, and of course, regular moisturizing and sealing. I (almost) always wear a satin cap under my wig.

Wow bride91501 -
Reading this post gets me really excited about your next hair reveal! Please don't be bashful about starting a thread when you do cause I don't wanna miss it.

I'm gonna try doing the twisting method! Don't know why I had never thought of that. Probably get waaay less breakage and your hair stays moisturized longer.

I usually get cornrows, but I've done large plaits/braids a few times too. I put a satin durag on over my cornrows and then a wig cap over that.

I used to cornrow my hair in about 5 for 6 cornrows. Now I plait my hair instead. I moisturize my scalp daily. It's easier to do this with plaits.

Haven't had a wig since May, but before that I wore wigs for a while. I would get it cornrowed underneath. To avoid the matting and the stress, I would make sure the braider only put in 5-6, and get it redone every four weeks. That was the perfect amt of time -- not too short so I get the no-manip, and not too long for it to get knotted and matted.

** my hair was 4a/4b mostly, with a little 3c. I never thought to do anything but the cornrows since they were the best way to get the hair flat and smooth underneath. Even when I got it pressed once, wrapping it to my head made a bigger lump than the braids. HTH.

I really wish I could keep my braids in for 3-5 weeks so I could avoid it for a while. I think due to me exercising and sweating my hair is a matted mess by the end of week 2 :perplexed:

i currently wear plaits or cornrows depending on my mood and energy that day:lol: i have a daughter with thick and fine WL natural hair and 3 toddler boys that take up all of my times on the weekends. i redo them weekly after wash and conditioning day but i am really contemplating getting someone professional to do them 1x a month. i have been getting lazier and lazier with how big the braids are so my wigs sit up high:lol: not cute:nono: i wear a satin du-rag and a nylon cap so my hair doesn't dry out.

BTW if anyone knows a braider in ATL that is gentle and patient with 4b hair and listens~please please please PM me. TIA!!

I usually put in 10-12 twists and remoisturize midweek. I wear a satin scarf underneath my wigs. When the wig and scarf aren't agreeing, I just add a beanie cap to cover up the imperfection.

6 cornrows straight back with a wig cap over it. I usually just wash the braids and DC when I'm wiggin it for a while.

just took off my wig and zip lock vanessa in the bag.....oiled my scalp with my concoction, put on a plastic cap, wrap around my cotton thingy (forgot the name but it holds the oil if it happens to want to run down from scalp), put on 2 satin caps, a wool hat and finally my huge arse scarf wrapped around twice....and this is what u call GHEing like a mother

Bumping because I'm new to this.

My wig has an invisible part and I've started putting plaits in my hair. Can my get by with larger plaits in the back?

I have 8 in front and I'm thinking of dividing the rest of my hair in 8-10 plaits.
