Greetings ladies,

As I prep for BSL 2012 with my new lacefront purchases, just wondering how are we styling our hair under the wig and what we're generally putting on it.

I can be hair lazy, and have to BSL before in my HHJ (until that wretched BKT experience) so now I am monitoring my hair more closely to minimize tangling, and of course maintain the moisture/protein balance. I also will be hennaing more for tensile strength, coconut oil, olive, castor, glycerin. My last perm was 7/15/10, so you can imagine the two textures.

Cornrows have caused me breakage and trying to slick it back sometimes causes matting, so I am going to continue with plaits. What's worked best for ya'll?

Thanks for your feedback! HHG!

I put my hair into a braid or two and then pin them to the top of my head. I cover my head with a satin durag, then a wig cap to prevent my hair from drying out.

It's not as flat as it could be but I wear curly wigs so my hair doesn't need to be super flat.

I spritz and/or Moisturize & Seal. Tuck Hair under and apply "Ouchless" Bobby Pins.

Men's Durag Double Tied. Works perfectly.

I actually just unbraided tonight and will detangle, wash, deep condition and rebraid in a few days.

sthrnlady

Did you braid that beehive?

I voted plaits, braids, and wig cap. After I remove an install, my hair is braided like sthrnlady. At this point, I may wear a wig for a few days before removing the braids. If I am not wearing an install, I just plait my hair in like 10 braids.

I wish! I had to go to a salon. I can only do plaits.

I have not worn a wig or weave in a few weeks (August) but did have success with lace wigs and crochet braids. I generally had my hair in cornrows or flat twists under my wigs.

What happened with your BKT experience. I had a lot of success with keratin treatments and used 3 brands so far with no problems.

I cornrow (12+) my hair feeding the ends into each other then wear my wig cap. My siggy is what I use to do but now I'm trying to protect my ends.

My hair is thick so I cornrow my hair into a beehive like Sthrnlady also. That's is the ONLY way that I can wear a wig and not have it look lumpy. Especially if I want to wear a short wig or straight hair sew-in. I sew down the tail, and I keep it in as long as I can before my hair can get matted. My hair around the hairline is usually where I watch out for matting.

naturalmanenyc, i enjoyed the BKT at first (Keratina), but over long-term it (QOD) seemed to eat my stuff away... seemed like one day i looked up and my hair was gone! :nono: and i was not a heavy heat user... also, I became concerned about the chemicals and the false info from the manufacturers so that sealed it.... no biggie though, i think i'm almost back past APL, glad it worked for you!

i cornrow used to be about 20 but now i'm doing twelve--not sure if its the growth or getting better at cornrowing. anyhoo, i do the nape horizontally then do the rest going back, joining the ends. then a wig cap. lately, its been cooler, so i do a silk scarf with the wig cap over it.

hope to learn how to do the beehive soon.

I put about 6 - 8 plaits in my hair. I put a satin doorag on and a nylon wig cap over that. Then my wig.

Nylon wig cap against my hair is BAD news. I have extreme breakage right in the back of my head from a nylon cap I was using that I thought was supposed to be PROTECTING my hair.

Cornrows OR plaits. It depends on how much time I have. I wear a stretchy net weave cap under my wigs. They're basically the same as stocking caps but with holes for breathability.

Depending on time restraints and laziness factor on wash day, I do plaits or cornrows. I do braid in a particular pattern in the event I don't want to wear the wig, I already have a style. Before I go out, I moisturize and seal, put on the wig cap and then the wig.

cornrows about 4-8--certain wigs are big on my head even though i have thick hair other wigs are just fine...

i moisturize and leave the braids in for one month...i dont get to crazy with the moisturizing because my hair will matt-up..lil suave conditioner..lil grapeseed oil and im good

i never wear a wig cap--to much pressure on my head..plus i dont want any material as in nylon rubbing against my hair under the LF...i feel like nylon is drying so the key for me is moisture--moisture--moisture...

I wish i could cornrow

I do 6 flat twists going straight back and pin with bobby pins. No wig cap

I "try" to moisturize regularly but admit that i don't :ohwell:

2-3 medium-sized french braids under a mesh wig cap that has smooth edges (no breakage). Sometimes 4 plaits under the same wig cap. Right now I'm not under a wig...just rocking my hair like LongHairDon'tCare2011...blowdried and in a bun.

It's not as flat as it could be but I wear curly wigs so my hair doesn't need to be super flat.

This is exactly what I do minus the durag (note to self: get a durag). I actually do wear straight or semi straight wigs and my hair lays down flat.

This month, I braided the middle of my hair in this pattern starting from the back working my way forward in this looped, connected rows pattern.

Then I put 2 large braids on either side of my head for easy removal, so that I can blend my hair with my wigs.

I cornrow my hair every month using the deep moisture method, and I wear them for 4 weeks at a time. I do everything while in these cornrows- co-wash, deep condition, light pt, and of course, regular moisturizing and sealing. I (almost) always wear a satin cap under my wig.

My hair is in 2 strand twists underneath a wig cap but what I would like to find is a cap that has nylon on top and satin or silk inside. Satin or silk to protect my hair from drying and nylon on the outside so that it will still hold my hair down but not come in contact with my hair and dry it out.
