*Maybe if I visit the hair forum more often I would know what I'm doing:nono:*

Okay so here is the deal. In December it will be a year in a half since my big chop. After my bc I had less than an inch of hair, now I have about 8 inches. I suffered a setback in May when I used heat incorrectly. My hair never recovered on parts on the sides and my bangs. Yesterday I finally cut all the heat damaged. Lately however, I've been noticing short hairs in the sink. Granted, I have been neglecting my hair for the past few weeks. I've been using huge amounts of gel, didn't comb it,not moisturizing, barely tied it up..and didn't wash it:look:. I don't know if that's the reason my hair is breaking..most likely yes.
So I was sitting here thinking, what lead to this destruction? What is my usual routine? Then I realized I didn't have one.
I really need something that isn't too time consuming. I have come up with a few ideas, I want to know what you think.

*Moisturize and seal everyday, with shea moisture and seal with grapeseed oil
*Co wash hair every week, deep condition as well
*Protein treatment every two weeks
*Keep ends protected
umm that's all I got:spinning:

Ladies please help!

Keep it simple:

Wash and DC(not less than 1 hour) once a week - I would start off with a two step aphogee and then do a moisturising DC

Use any braid spray daily concentrating on the ends with a little infusium (lightly, you don't have to drench your hair at night) and seal with any oil

Tie up your hair at bedtime - you can sleep in plaits too.

Your DC should be a good balance of protein and moisture after the first protein treatment. Lustrasilk sheabutter cholesterol is nice and very cheap.

That's it.

What moisturising DC do you recommend?

Hi Beautytalk!

Sorry to hear your having a slight setback, all is not lost! May I ask, what is your hair type? I realized a few months after I did my big chop that I really needed to know what my hair type was to better understand what types of products my hair liked.

I'm a 4b, and when I was relaxed, I'd say I probably needed more protein, now that I'm natural, not so much. I agree with Hothair, you have to have a balance when it comes to protein and moisture.

I've read some ladies recommend Nexxus Emergencee to immediately stop the breakage, someone may be able to speak to that better than me.

I've done protein treatments for my hair, but generally no more than once a month. you may need this every other week until your hair starts to respond favorably.

My Protein recipe-
beat one egg, add
2 tablespoons of full fat yogurt (not the low calorie kind)
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon of baking soda (yogurt can leave a sour smell in your hair, the baking soda cancels that smell).
Mix well.

Rinse your hair with warm water (don't wash) this gets out a good deal of oil and buildup.

Your hair will feel soft and conditioned. I concur with Hothair, tie that hair up at night! Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase or use a silk or satin bonnet. Stay away from that heat! If you must use heat keep it on the lowest setting if possible.

I hope this helps! :bighug:

Towel dry most of the water out, then add your protein mis treatment. Leave on for an hour without a heating cap, 30 minutes with a heating cap.

Wash your hair as you normally do

My big hug to you got in the way! After your done rinsing your hair, towel dry then add the protein treatment, then wash your hair as you normally do.

With breaking hair, are you sure you want to do a protein treatment so frequently? And if your hair needs the protein, then make sure that you follow up with a moisturizing DC. I like Shea Moisture, DB Deep Conditioning Hair Mask, and Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner.

Good luck to you!
