Does anybody do this?

I was watching a video on youtube, and the girl was talking about what kind of products she uses on her hair and she mentioned using a hand cream. I have seen some all natural body butters and hand creams that I've been tempted to use on my hair before, but was too chicken to try. A lot of the ingredients sound like what is used in conditioner, but I'm not as ingredient savvy as a lot of you women are.

Any thoughts? Do you think this could harm your hair?

lol I didn't mean just any old lotion. Like...something all natural, no mineral oil, blah blah.

But I do love me some Jergens! haha

i dont see why not, if the ingredients are 'good'... and like makemild said... i use hair moisturizers on my skin all the time. i use darcy madagascar vanilla on my skin before my hair (it doesnt do a whole lot for my hair... but it does make it soft). try it out OP lol. just clarify if you dont like it.

Whimsy I know you were! I was just clarifying my OP because your Jergens comment had me thinking that other ppl might not know what I meant lol No hard feelings please don't send the LHCF mafia after me lol

The video really had me thinking though! I remember when I was looking for a good hair lotion (and not coming up with anything) that maybe a quality hand cream could do the job. I wonder how many ppl do this?

Yeah, I'm really thinking about trying it :) and like you said I can always just wash my hair if it doesn't work. And of all the crazy things I've heard of ppl trying on their hair, this seems pretty innocent!

I did a cassia treatment once, right before a vacation to Paris. I overdid it and my hair was rough, tangly, and breaking. Being that I was on vacation I didnt have access to my stash and the usual things I would use to try and remedy this. I cant read French, so its not like I could have just purchased some conditioner at the store. I tried the hotel conditioner, and used up all the conditioner I brought with me. I was out and about and saw a Body Shop. Something told me to try the shea body butter on my hair. That night I glopped it on, baggyied up, and went to bed. Sure enough, my hair was PERFECT the next day. Soft, tangle free, and managable. So yes, in a pinch, I would use body lotion/cream on my hair again.

A few times, when my hair was unruly and I didn't access to any conditioner or gel, I used hand or body lotion to smoothe my hair down w/no problems. I never tried lotion on my whole head, though.

During my recent trip to Turkey, I forgot my sealing oil. During my layover in London, I bought a natural shea butter body lotion and used it for the week. Worked fine for my hair -- sealed beautifully and protected my ends. I was going to post about it when I got back but forgot.

I don't see why not.

I have used baby lotion in all my kids hair at one time or another with no adverse reactions. I don;t know of anyone who has made lotion a permanent part of their regi...but in general if I can put it on my skin I don't expect it to har my hair!

:yep:

I have and it is not crazy as you think, I used this natural body lotion that had all types of good products like aloe very, jojoba oil...so I put it in my hair and it made it soo soft. I was sure to look up every ingredient to make sure there would be no adverse reactions though.

I think i tried one of carols daughters body creams on my ends just to see what it would do and it didnt do much. It made it soft but ended up dry

when I was relaxed I used to use jergens shea butter lotion in my hair whenever I was at work and my hair felt like it needed a lil moisture boost.

this was before I started using all natural products.

anyhoo, I dont see why you couldnt use body butters or body oils in the hair, once the ingredients are to your hair's liking.

as other posters have said, I also use excess hair product on my skin, particularly Qhemets olive and honey hydrating balm, my skin loves it!!!

I used lotion + oil one summer when I didn't have access to hair products. My hair grew quite well. It was in twists (natural).

as long as it has no drying alcohols it works well for me. a slight build up sometimes depending on how it's formulated but nothing worse than butters do. (I did it 3 times on vacation, I think I used Aubrey Organics and some body butters)

I've used lotion to tame my edges when I didn't have access to gel. It worked too.:yep:

The summer I went natural I used Bath and Body Works Cucumber Melon scented body cream in my hair. :look:

I was wearing WNG's everyday, and the product smelled good and made my hair soft. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone now though, I haven't done this since 1999, and I think the amount of alcohol would not be good for the hair.

I use this on my hair regularly and just clarify as needed.

Its not too far fetched of an idea. Hair creams and lotions are basically just emulsion systems and lots of them share similar ingredients. I like fragranced lotions though, and if it were in my hair up around my face it would probably get on my nerves...

Lots of people on the board used lotion on their heads when I first started lurking...Pokahontas comes to mind... I tried it for like a month and didn't like it nor dislike it...I don't remember why I stopped, but I guess I hopped on another bandwagon :look:

Yes I do! All of these hair milks, lotions and creams are just that...for the skin and hair.

 @ folks thinking something weird would occur. You would just still need to seal it in with an oil or butter b/c of the high water content.
