My wet buns usually look great until the top part of my hair starts drying, then it becomes poofy. So I was wondering if anyone who has that trouble, how do they make it not poof? Or is it just because I have thick hair?

Yeah, I have thick hair and this happens to me too. I don't like it. I use gel and brush gently while damp.

Either you're not using enough gel, you may have to wet it moreduring geling, or you need to tie a scarf on after gelling and leave it on for at least 10-15 minutes

if you have thick hair, the amount of product doesnt matter.
splinta24 has a video, where she uses a technique to get rid of the poof in the middle.

i do the following:

spray my hair with water till damp
apply water based moisturizer
apply gel
use elastic to make bun ( i just make a ponytail and the last time i twist it i don't pull the hair all the way through so its messy bun)
15-20 minutes before i leave the house while getting ready i tie my hair down with a scarf.

Well for the first time in my life I actually achieved it. I used a lot more shea butter than what I usually use and of course a mix of castor oil and almond oil like the Ancient Egyptians did and it worked. Oh and the rain we got today was a nice bonus for my hair!
