New Challenge ideas for 2012?

:scratchch...hmmmm.... I guess it could be about using products that don't contain the "bad" stuff like mineral oil and stuff like that...parabens and such...idk:look:

I was just checking because natural products is a vague term.

I think it best to let someone else host that challenge. :yep:

Well I was thinking a hair regimen using only natural products

nothing containing...
preservatives unless natural( like grapefruit extract, vit E oil, rosemary extracts)

silcones, the only "slip" should come from natural mucilage ( slippery elm, fenugreek, burdock etc)

No dyes, unless naturally occurring stains like henna, tea etc

no petrochemicals

fragrance...made in a lab, essential oil scent cool

anything naturally derived is in. cetyl alcohol, lecitithin.

but you could use a blow dryer, flat iron, rollers, it would be just the products that should be as pure as possible .

uhmm thats all i got

Alot of ppl here are doing this already so its nothing new. Plenty products available so there would be no need for home labs.

I think it would be nice to divorce yourself from the chemicals for a bit, show ppl another option that is doable.

For me, the last product I let go was Shea butter leave in cream, it was really fooling me into believing my ends were nice.
After not being able to source it for 3 weeks, I realised how unnecessarily dependent on a product I had become...again.

I'd rather be dependent on shea butter, that formula ain't going to change anytime soon.

I think the natural products would be a could challenge. But I could tell by my own questions, I wasn't feeling the passion for hosting it. And if the passion isn't there in the beginning, I would probably be a baaaad host.

faithVA I dunno abt hosting, I need someone to whip me in shape .... my ends be in no shape to whip anyone LOL. Though I'll be basically doing a personal healthy ends challenge till the end of the year .... its the only thing that will get me to APL.

if I succeed then I'll atleast have some knowledge to start the challeneg come Jan 2012 :)

Im in on the natural products challenge .... it would also be a good place to share recipes too

I need a protective style challenge! I don't do well with keeping my hair put a away, and I think it has cost me some valuable inches over the last several months! :perplexed

I'd also join an APL challenge for 2012. Even though I never before believed I would/could expect to see MY hair make it to such a length, I now believe I actually could make it before the end of next year! :yep:

We need to bring back the Protein is My Friend Challenge..My hair was in the best condition ever..

SimJam, I would be willing to host a healthy ends challenge until the end of the year because that is something I am personally working on.

I can start that one if enough people want a challenge for Sept - Dec.

Starting Pic, ending pic, report in every week or every two weeks on what you are doing to improve your ends.

I'm just draw a blank when I think of hosting the natural hair products.

Healthy inside & out challenge. Eating healthier, working out & using natural or healthier hair products. Sharing work outs, meal ideas, etc all in 1 challenge.

i like the retention, healthy ends, bsl, and natural challenges. i would join those.

What about a vitamin regimen challenge to keep people on track to take their daily vits?
or some type of hair shake/smoothie challenge?
ayurvedic challenge
no/low heat challenge. (pledge either no heat, or cut back on heat)
or a thicken it up challenge.

I would love this challenge!

This would be an amazing challenge. It's amazing how good we can be to our hair, our skin, our nails, but neglect our overall health and well-being...well, :look: I should say, I...but anyhoo... I would be on board for this challenge! I'm doing better, but would love the support of others.

Oh, I also think the natural products challenge sounds good.

I need this challenge! I'd be in. I'm hoping it would help me get off my butt and do what I know I need to do but have been too lazy to do.

Also in on the APL. I shoulda been there already!

This would be awesome!
I also would like: an APL 2012 and BSL 2012 (aiming for BSL by the end of next year), a Hide Your Hair/protective styling challenge, and a Crown & Glory or wig/weave challenge (I plan to rock wigs and braids all the way to BSL.)

I'm aiming for TBL next year. Theres a TBL 2011 challenge, so hopefully there will be one for 2012. I think that will be it for me.

what about a "No New Bandwagons Challenge?" "Sticking to what you know and trust?"

So, if someone comes out with a cream that claims to grow your hair 15 inches in two months, or a new pill, powder or potion comes out that is supposed to do the same or if some youtuber displays some new "fantastic" "miracle" products or if someone reviews a new conditioner that is supposed to make your hair like chinese silk (well, maybe that can slide :) ) instead of joining every new fantastic claim bandwagon, we just let it pass us by.

This can help people with their pji-isms, people trying to stay on with their current regimen, and keep people from the trial and error that comes with hopping on every new bandwagon (also, it can rehab any chronic bandwagon jumpers). This will also let new claims settle in to the category of "truth vs fiction" by the years end, as when the year is over, if certain claims prove to have been legit by watching others, then by all means, we can feel free (and with a good conscious) to join/buy/do whatever it is that is being promoted. And if the claim/bandwagon proves to have been a bust (think enso), then we can wipe our brow and thank heaven that we dodged that bullet...

what do yall think.

Any one interested in a loose hair challenge? Where the challenge is to grow out your hair without heavy reliance on protective styling.

Focus will be on maintatining protein and moisture balance by dcing regularly with heat, keeping ends healthy and trimmed, moiturizing and sealing ends daily, low mani styling and limited direct heat.

keeping my eyes open for the BSL, HEALTHY ENDS, STICKING TO WHAT WORKS AND PROTECTIVE STYLING CHALLENGES FOR 2012 and i would join every 1.

Imani's BSL 2012 thread is already up and running.

I'm doing healthy ends fall 2011 but not sure if I will do it 2012 yet.

Maybe a Honey Lovers Challenge.

I've been slacking on using honey lately and I have a huge bottle to go through! I need new ideas on how to incorporate more honey in my hair diet! :yep:

Ooo! Yum! Or maybe just a "groceries for hair" type thing. All the yummy thing we like to eat, but we put them in our hair as opposed to around our waistline :)

Thanks Faith, i think i joined the BSL 2012 challenge already. I'm always protective styling anyway as anyone who reads my posts in other threads will see where i've said i've only worn my natural hair out once since i BC and started my natural journey.

My biggest personal challenge is SSK...which i try to not let it bother me as i only deal with it in between weave take downs and thats once every 6-8wks, however whatever strands are lost during take down would serve me very well in taking me to lengths i intend to reach.

Oooppssoff on a tangent!

Well I totally think you ladies have great suggestions. Excited about the new possibilites. FaithVA has the ends up and running. I'm totally cosigning on the Ayurvedic Challenge. I'm not good with being in charge of them but anyone you know who would be can ya ladies give them a mention incase they'd be interested. They use to be yearly on here but I wasn't here yet (was looking at throwback threads) and didn't know anything about ayurveda when I came here. Also the protein is my friend challenge is definitely what I need. My hair loves protein but I always slack or give too much protein and not enough moisture or vice versa. A challenge would keep me on point. The loose hair is great too because psing isn't for everyone.

I sho wish Damaged but not out get this challenge on and popping

I need a MBL/WSL challenge...Im patiently waiting lol for one to be created....
Im currently recovering from dye damage so I can relate to the no more dye challenge lol

Well my idea is not so much a challenge. Years ago on another board i seen where the ladies took their beginning length pics at the first of the year. Then 6 months later they took pics and finually at the end of the year. I though that was a pretty cool idea.

I think this would be easy to do since many of us are in some type of challenge that requires pics. :yep:
