So I just started cosmetology school this week, and found out that we have to practice on each other before we start practicing on patrons.....

I had no idea.

When she told us I felt like :swearing: but what can I do?

She told everyone that nobody could wear fake hair, and quite a few were wearing weave. One girl put long braids in her hair that she said took her 3 days to finish. They looked so nice but the teacher said she had to have them out by next week. I felt bad for her, and all them were basically :cry3:

Anyways she said we should have our hair out of our face. To me, that means either a bun or a ponytail because I never wear my hair out with a headband or anything. I usually change up my style with weaves, wigs, braids, etc. so this is strange for me.

Do any of you have daily occupations, activities, or things you do that REQUIRE you to wear a bun or a ponytail? And if so, do you hate it or have you gotten used to it?

(btw if any of my classmates happen to be on the forum reading this, hey yall!)

Wow! I've never heard of such a thing. If your attending a public school I know they can't enforce anything like :nono: but if your attending a private school they may ask you to wear your hair a certain way.

Removing weave, braids and wigs I think is crossing the line. That's why you have a mannequin.

You should read all the paperwork you signed to see if this is documented anywhere, if not, you can talk to the school director or corporate office. I would have a voice and pick and choose what I would allow them to do to my hair. They can not force you to get chemicals, a haircut, weave, etc.:nono:

I agree, I dont know how they can't force you to do that. Like, why would you practice on each other? That's so strange. Anyway, at my job I have to have my hair in a ponytail and under a hat because I work with food. I find it annoying because i hate the dent left in my hair from the band(A band that I only wrap around my hair ONCE). My hair looked nice before I put it up and now it's all creased :(

Yeah I thought it was kinda strange, but I've never been to cosmetology school so I didn't know if it was normal or not. I don't think we signed any papers that forces us to practice on each other, but I know for sure she said the only thing we practice on each other (as far as hair) is shampoo and conditioning and that we could bring our own products. Other than that we could choose if we want to allow someone to do more, so I don't feel like its a big deal, but nobody has touched my head in 7 years so it's gonna be weird for me.

When I was in cosmetology school we never had any such requirements.. We could volunteer to be a class hair model, but that was about it. We certainly never had to wear our hair a certain way.

I'm with MVPMom. When I was in hair school we didn't have to wear our hair a certain way and letting someone do your hair was on a voluntary basis. We could have friends come in to hair their hair done but we has to do it in the classroom and not on the "floor" until we had 500 hrs. That sounds crazy as h3ll to me

I know police officers do. I'll ask my buddies how they do, although I have one friend and her hair is ALWAYS on point!!!

I elect to wear my hair in a PS. I work with kids and some who have Autism. "Out" hair is asking for trouble. The one time I did, one of my kids went straight for the jugular (my roots). lol. I said never again.

I was a police officer and we had to wear our hair off the shoulders so if it is long you have to wear a ponytail and not a bun unless it can fit under your hat. It was fine for me and at the time my hair was long maybe a little past apl and I had to wear a simi high ponytail to keep it off my shoulders and so my hat would fit.

yeah here they do a bun or ponytail as long as they can put the hat on.

that hat is the debbil on a hairline!
