Hey ladies,

I've noticed A lot of LHCF members have given up MTG....

I'm still using it daily...i'm really used to it now,
it did tarnish some of my jewellery, it gave me a small rash but it seems to be acting properly now.

Can you please list your reason?

Thanks...

It's been 2 months since I've been using MTG and after some tarnished jewelry and lots of hair growth i'm still on the mTG bandwagon and not gonna give up so I would also like to know why you ladies have stopped using this product. And yes the smell does not bother me!!!!:D
Bumping!!!!!

I couldn't get past the smell. Nothing I put in it to mask it did the job for me. So that was one bandwagon I happily jumped off! lol

The smell for me but I made my own sulfur mix. However I am going to sneak my MTG in on the weekends cause it has the pine tar. Which helps hair to grow I remember my mother using that black dax in my head. MTG reminds me of this.

the smell

Had to give it up. But I made my own funkless one!

It was too greasy and stinky and it was ruining my romantic life. I got tired of it tarnishing all of my jewelry and burning my neck!

I couldn't stand the smell. Thanks to den1 and naturallady's suggestions, I made my own sulphur mix. Sulphur powder from www.baldwins.co.uk mixed with coconut and almond oil. No problems and no smells.

I still use it but only once a week maybe 2x at the most, but once I use it on my scalp after I wash my hair and then apply my butters the smell is gone. So far so good since I am a stay at home mom. Hubby hasn't told me my hair stink so I will keep going until he complains.

I have no side effects at all from using mtg, I use it very lightly.

1. I didnt like being paranoid when i was standing next to people :( .
2. I like when my hair smells good
3. I CO wash too much so i dont think the MTG ever really had a chance to 'marinate'

I still use it a few times a week. Hubby told me it was a "god awful" smell, so I use it lightly and then put another more pleasant smelling moisturizer on top of it.

Thats what it reminded me of when i first opened it so the smell wasn't unbearable, maybe I was used to it. But after wearing it and you can smell it everytime you turn your head for the ENTIRE day (even when mixxed with the EO's) the smell got obnoxious and made me self conscious.

I stopped using it for this reason (smell), tarnished my silver and i believe it made my scalp burn really bad when I got my touch-up. :nono: So I voted for "other."

I still have mine. I haven't completely given up on it. I did take a break though. I had some social outings and events to go to. It wasn't practical. I couldn't risk being out and then have that MTG smell creep up on me.
Maybe I'll go back in the summer.

I don't know if I was using too much or what, but I was constantly wiping the excess oil with my towel. When I washed the towel you could still smell it:perplexed So the smell definitely was my main reason for not using it anymore.

I stopped using it several weeks ago. I was having some breakage and trying to find out what it was so I gave up on that and Surge. Actually, I could take the smell (used lots of jasmine oil). My hair was also very wirey. My hairdresser noticed it and I didn't want to tell her what I was using. She said the texture of my hair was becoming very course. I've given it a break just to see if that was the culprit and started con washing twice a week and continuing my vitamins. So far my new growth is wavy and managable. Believe me, it's five weeks since last relaxer and I've got just as much new growth as with MTG than w/out. I think I can contribute it to the vitamins and adding more protein to my diet. I won't rule it out and might go back to it. For now, I'm enjoying not leaving grease on everything I touch.

I've been using it for months, and my hair really took off growing...but I had to give it up for awhile.

Here in Texas, the heat makes the MTG smell even worse, it's so strong it overwhelms you and everyone around you! I'll start using it again when it cools off.

I stopped before my last relaxer. My relaxers have not been taking very well. It's as though I haven't had a relaxer in several months. My hair has also been breaking from the stress of the new growth. So only WGO and Surge for me.

Man it is hard to get out of laundry isn't it! I mean I still have smell in my clothes 3 weeks later and I hate that, all I did was throw my scarve in to wash and that was it, but now since I use it once a week I do the baggie method and it gets no where on anything.I had to wash everything in Hot water and add baking soda to get the smell completely out:eek:

Still a faithful MTG user, 4x a week. Ive gotten too much wonderful growth to give this bad boy up!:bud:

However, I definitely understand folks reasons for giving it up.... it definitely can put a cramp in your lifestyle, in so many ways.

During my mtg phase, no one told me my hair smelled good. at all :( I'm used to my hair smelling like berries and fruit and mtg made me smell like bacon grease. And trying to put in the right amount of peppermint oil was annoying. If i used to much, my scalp would tingle and if i used too little i would stink.:ohwell:

I might purchase it again though...just not anytime soon. It did work very well. Also, my roommate saw the bottle and looked at me like I was crazy. I've had too many awkward moments with different people and my mtg bottle/smell.You just can't explain using horse fungicide on your hair.

I stopped using it because it was too greasy. I didnt use much either, even on the days I didnt use it may hair still would be greasy, so greasy that I could fry an egg if I wanted to!
Plus it stain my pillow cases, MTG aint for me!

Slightly off topic ~ Am I doing this wrong?? I have been using MTG for one week now. I use it sparingly 2 - 3 times a week after washing [co-wash and regular]. It smells but not so bad and I use it straight. By the time I get to the bed, with my head covered in a scarf the smell dissipates. My boyfriend hated the smells of rosemary oil and Dr Miracles' temple and nape balm, saying I smelled like Vicks. With this he hasn't said a thing .... It also never drips on my neck or back and I have a black satin pillowcase, so I'm not seeing stains if there are any. Maybe I'm using too little ....

I've been using mine every other day for about two weeks and I'm seeing a little growth but not much.. I'm going to give it another 2 weeks before I completely stop.

The plus side, is that my scalp stays REALLY moisturized, and although MTG is greasy, one of the main issues with my hair is dry scalp, it hasnt been dry nor have i scratched my head ONCE since starting on it...

We'll see....

I Gave Up MTG Because:

The Smell-I Used It Only 1 Time During The Day And Someone at work said"who smells like food?" :look:

Too Greasy

Started To Give Me A Rash(It's All Cleared Up)

Took Too Much Time To Apply(Old Shirt,Old Towel Around Neck,Plastic Bag,Cap,etc..)

Trying The Miconazole...We'll See How That Goes:)

Still using it. I made my own scentless wonder as well and so I can go work out, go out shopping etc. or be around home and not have that smell at all!!! I do a baggie with it regularly. I will use the Original MTG. when I KNOW I will not be having any kind of human contact and then I will marinate baggie that baby big time. Oh, My hair does not get stiff or rough when I use my homemade one, but the orig. one leaves my hair feeling not feeling as moisturized as my homemade one. So now I know I can pack my HM one as well and not worry about odor. Bonjour.

Thanks for all the replies ladies, for those that are finding it hard to get MTG out of fabric use Vinegar in the washing machine...plain ol' vinegar
