Sew-ins as protective styling

So there's this girl who approached me while I was working to asked what I used in my hair. I ran it down to her real quick then she proceeded to tell me she was natural and had been wearing her sew in since
Since May. So I said oh ok have u been taking care of your hair underneath. I can only imagine the horror on my face when she told me she's only washed her hair once nothing else. I told her good luck with her hair journey but she's gotta take care of her hair or it's pointless.

I use sew ins as protective style esp right now since it's summer. My hair is fine and so far I washed once in the last two weeks. Pure laziness tho usually I wash once a week. Anyhow I love my sew ins bc I'm paying more attention to my scalp and giving my hair a break from heat.

How do you take care of your hair in a sew in or wash it thoroughly?? When I had one some years ago, I couldn't keep it longer than two or 3 weeks because I could not get to my hair/scalp underneath to be able to take care of it.

Most girls I know do not wash their weave or hair underneath and the hair still thrives. Honestly they maybe better off because they dont risk matting from washing it and allowing hair to dry in braids.

I have a sew in in now and I don't wash but every two weeks. I use moisterizing spray and spray on the braids or co wash in between washes. Its been great and my hair stays soft even by the time I take my sew in down.

I think many women don't know you can use a glycerine mix spray to take care of their hair under a sew in.

I wear sew ins and get my scalp very clean underneath. Every time i take my weaves down i notice that I have retained all my length and I'm regaining hair density/thickness.

During the winter i wash my hair every 2 weeks, In the summer I find that I'm washing my hair every 7 days in weaves. I dont use anything on my hair/scalp underneath in between wash days.

ITA with SuchaLady, washing weaves too often is not good and can lead to matting. BUT if you do it and it works for you, dont change! My 4a/b hair will lock up if washed too often. In April, I was on vacation and swam in either a pool or the beach everyday for 5 days. I CO washed everyday and that take down i noticed i lost more hair. Nothing alarming, but just more.

IA as well....i have a weave in now and i wash and deep condition my hair every 2 weeks.

@LongLeggedLife I made a YouTube video showing how I wash, deep condition and moisturize your hair while in a weave. But i do oil my scalp and moisturize every 3 days or when necessary.

First i start with the weave itself and do a shampoo and conditioner....cOMB that thur then I'll take shampoo in my hands and apply it to my leave out and scalp. Just focusing On my scalp and rise out everything. I don't man handle my hair underneath. Just enough not to overly wet my braids. I leave the condition in longer for my leave out. The winter I'll go back to washing bi weekly. I keep my sewins in no longer than a month.
