I usually use more moisture because the cones have blocked the hair from receiving.

Everyones hair is different though

Both for me. I usually wash, then do a protein treatment and then a deep conditioning treatment. I've had great results so far.

Im about to wash my flat ironed hair and Im going to DC for awhile with a moisturizing conditioner. I can see why both are mentioned but more than likely your hair was deprived of moisture while trying to preserve the straight style.

Depends on how your hair feels. Natural hair doesn't need as much protein as people think. But if you use protein, moisture still follows doesn't it?

This generalization needs to stop. Every head, natural or not, is different. I have to do a protein dc once a week and use a protein leave-in or my hair likes to act funky and I'm natural. :yep:

i usually do both but i ALWAYS do a protein treatment. it helps the curls snap back more than a moisturizing dc.

I use heat a lot and tend to rotate what I emphasize with each wash. I generally prefer my protein as a pre-treatment, and can go either way (pre-treat or deep con after shampooing) with moisture.

Definitely base each individual wash day decision on how your hair feels at that time. For me what matters most is that I'm giving my hair whatever it needs right then, not following a prescribed regimen.

Soooo true! In the beginning I took protein out of my regimen because of that myth and my hair was looking a HOT mess! But now I use it once a month followed by a deep condition and I'm good to go!

But back to the original question...I deep condish before I flat iron and then protein and deep condish after I wash my hair. The protein helps with any heat damage.

My hair loves protein. I use some form of protein every other week before dc'ing.

I agree with using both on a regular basis. I used protein infrequently for the first six months or so of my journey mainly because I was scared based on seeing the comment "Naturals don't need to use much protein."

An ordering mistake and an experiment with the general regimen suggested by Cathy Howse (and others) which is to use both protein and moisture weekly put that myth to rest for me. My hair has far exceeded my goals in that I finally have moved out of the fine/thin, low density hair category and into the fine hair, medium density category.

As with anything, if scared to use protein, surround your entire regimen with moisture to make sure it balances out. I pre-poo'd with moisture, shampooed in moisture, PROTEIN, then followed with steam and/or moisturizing DC. It was the best thing I could have done to help my hair.

Moisture in my opinion. My hair thrives on moisture when using heat especially. Protein is more essential when using a chemical or if u have weak hair. I only use protein the day of my relaxer.
