I got to thinking about this because I have been having issues with either not wrapping because I'm too tired or having my hair being too flat/static-clingy when I do. Last night I just tied it back instead of doing the full wrap-around, and that worked great for me. Just wondering what others think...
I wrap maybe twice a week if I remember. Wrapping causes issues for me because I hate flat hair on one side and because it leads to too much manipulation and breakage.
When I rollerset I wrap my hair nightly. I moisturize with just a bit of coconut oil before I wrap it. Sometimes (rarely) I just don't feel like it and it's no big deal.
I used to wrap nightly but once I found out that it was causing my the left side to be significantly shorter than the right and the manipulation also left my left temple area sticking out, I stopped.. If I wrap, I crosswrap which is once my hair got longer was easier for me to do.. Not too crazy about wrapping nowadays...
I do for the first few days after a wash. I alternate sides and use a wide tooth comb though. I only use the smaller combs/brushes on the first day. It's working out great.
I hope the wrap does my hair some good for a few days. I just removed box braids after 6 weeks. My scalp itched so much until the braids started looking raggedy. I got a touch-up on Friday. My hair has grown, so not sure how much. I got a roller set and left it at that.
I wish I could get the hang of cross wrapping. Somehow I end up with one side looking normal (straight with a slight bump at the ends) and the other side being either bone straight (including the ends) or flipped. I actually prefer pin curls but have the same problem with inconsistent results.
Speaking of Pretty Wraps... does anyone know when they will be back in stock? Mine is on its last leg and I want to reorder but they have been out of stock for several months. What's up with that?
I voted that I wrap nightly. In order to decrease the tension I rotate where I start the wrap but I don't go to bed with out doing it unless I am in a bun or a braidout.
I voted other because I don't do it anymore. I wrapped my hair to the left religiously and nightly for for over 15 years and my left nape has suffered tremendously for it. The right side of my nape had damage as well but it's has shown signs of improvement over the last several months but that left side could take years if ever, to come back to life. When my hair grows well below full SL, I'll occasionally cross-wrap.
I voted other because I do a variation of the cross wrap. My hair is shoulder length and perhaps still brittle because traditional wrapping is too rough on my ends. Maybe as my hair condition improves.
For now, I sweep one side in the back - pin it, then sweep the other side over and pin it. In the morning I have a bit of a flip, but I work it into my style. I don't like the idea of parting my hair down the middle in the back for a cross wrap. Seems like I would end up with thinning in the center, or my hair would be trained to separate in that area when I style.
I only wrap my hair once in a blue moon, normally when a rollerset hasn't gone to plan. I don't like all of that brushing and combing. I prefer to just put a few satin rollers or flexis in as I don't need a comb for that. The next day I decide to either wear the hair down or in a loose bun with some tendrils.
here's a tip for those who don't like all the harsh manipulation of wrapping:
i use a wide tooth comb to wrap when I straighten. In addition, I don't tie down my hair with a scarf usually. I just put a satin bonnet on top of the loose wrap and let the wrap fall in the bonnet. It comes out the same way, sleek and bumped ends, and it's a lot less tension on my fragile edges.
