Staying away from heat styling. I still have regular breakage here and there from manipulation (I have thin strands and serious hand in hair syndrome) but I retain length and thickness.

Hello Ladies,
How do you hot oil rinse step by step? Do you do the below? It seems strange to me that one would do the hot oil treatment then wash the hair with shampoo (sulfate free of course). It seems like one would wash all the oil out. Am I wrong?

1. Wash
2. Conditon
3. oil rinse
4. do twist out style????

1. wash
2. oil rinse for 2-5 mins
3. rinse with very warm water for about a minute
4. DC as usual.

HTH

I remember I had to stop oil rinsing bc after a while it made my relaxed strands stick together like glued. But I can see this working on natural hair for curl definition

Thanks for the heads up. My relaxed hair had a tendency to stick together and I think I should be mindful of this with my natural hair as well.

1. diluting shampoo
2. washing in sections
3. detangle before washing and not again until after last DC step
4. airdrying hair in 3-4 bantu knots
5. no direct heat except for length checks
6. silk elements leave-in. Just bought this yesterday and used it after t-shirt drying my hair. Helped decrease the tangles. I also used it this morning as a leave in spray combined with distilled water and glycerin, then sealed with grapeseed oil. My hair is the softest it's been ever after moisturizing in the morning

Update: I tried One N Only Brazilian Keratin Deep Penetrating Treatment this week. I mixed it with ORS Replenishing Conditioner as a protein treatment since I am relaxing my hair this weekend and DCed with SE Megasilk Moisturizing Treatment afterwards.

For me, I truly believe that this is what has contributed to my extreme reduction in breakage and shedding. I am still have breakage, but about 1/3 to 1/2 of what it normally is, and also its smaller pieces than normal for after shower detangling and daily styling :woohoo2:. I plan on using the same mixture as a mid-protein step during my relaxer this weekend and hopefully I'll see more of the same results. I'm really glad I bought 2 as Sally's had a sale for 2 for $12. Hopefully this will fix my breakage problem as using this made me realize that Aphogee 2 min keratin for the last year and a half really did nothing for my hair :ohwell:. Super excited though that I may have found a solution

I don't detangle before or during washing anymore..as my hair is hanging to airdry I finger detangle lightly and don't use a comb until the hair is completely dry...sounded crazy to me but it works like a charm and my hair seemingly detangles as it dries and literally NO breakage. Granted my hair is worn up most of the time.

No more deep conditioning. Use vinegar instead. You can sit with conditioner on your head all day if you want, but vinegar works faster and you get the same results. Wash your hair then spray vinegar on your head. Wash the rest of your body then rinse the vinegar out. Feels like you just deep conditioned. Vinegar brings back your ph level faster than any conditioner.

When your scalp starts to itch, don't wash. Condition. Your scalp itches when it is dry, not dirty.

Using a Weekly Reconstructor or Light Protein Treatment on Relaxed Hair
Incorporating an Acidifying Conditioning Rinse as a Final Rinse i.e. PC, etc......

Balancing out protein and moisture treatments. The balance makes my hair feels strong, not soft and mushy and not hard either. This is done by not adding a leave in or water to my hair every single day, but rather when needed and also a protein treatment once a week. This has really helped with that. Also I find that ayurvedic DC's has helped my hair drastically as well with strength, colour and curls.

Natural Hair Stylist, do you use the vinegar straight?

The bolded has changed my life.

All I need is light protein here and there rather than a hardcore treatment ever once in a while.

faithVA, I just eye ball the amount (probably 2 tbs). I pour the conditioner and honey to another container (just enough to use on my hair) and I deep condition for about a hour (30 mins w/ heat and the rest w/o heat). Hth

I've gotten dramatic results using
Ceramides (SSI marshmallow cream and WHeat Germ oil especially)
over night dc
honey
coconut milk
CoWashing frequently.
low manipulation
I dropped stylists.

the magic star jumbo comb has done wonders for my detangling.
vatika oil
ceramide oil(i noticed my shea butter mix where i used a ton of ceramide oil works better than any other shea mix ive ever made)
protein

- co wash several times a week
- oil
- bunning at least 80% of the time, unless I wanna look "special" that day when I do a braid out or blow out (with low heat settings)
- occasional protein

I stopped all use of heat - it has completely stopped my breakage. I have finally broken away from the 'relaxed hair' mindset and no longer seek sleek straight hair.

I use Aphogee 2 min after every shampoo and before my deep con.

I spray avj and water onto my hair before leave-in's and i've noticed a dramatic reduction in tangles.

Mane & Tail Conditioner!!!!!! It costs $3 bucks at Walmart in the pet aisle. Been using it and grew to BSL quick! Should have always used it. I use it as a leave in before shampoo and a rinse out conditioner at the end.

Redken Smooth Down Conditioner - if I had this as a heat straightened natural...I wouldn't have texlaxed ever. It helps me straighten my hair drastically better and more "salon" like results. Smooths the cuticle and eases straightening. It's a keeper!

Miracle 2000 Vitamin from GNC for 29.99. Yup, it's worth it. Keeps me healthy, gives me energy and makes my hair GROW!
How did the main and tail work for you? Did it provide protein?

I want to add, when using vinegar, add oil to it. I do 50/50. Better than conditioner!

Also, using dr. Bronners and oil. again about 50/50. I don't need any conditioner or anything after.

Stopped using shampoo. I only cleanse with apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, or shikakai bar.

Daily cowashing with a deep conditioner
Leaving conditioner in my hair at all times
Detangling my longer hair with the Ouidad Double Detangler
Frequent overnight deep conditioning (curls pop, less frizz)
K.I.S.S. methods
Heat only for trims

ceramides-hemp seed oil pre-poo, biolage ceramide treatment (every wash)
herbal tea rinses
weekly DC-kenra DC/AOHSR DC (weekly), aphogee reconstructor as needed
protective styling

I use Hot Six Oil because it was easiest for me to find and it has 3 ceramides (WGO, safflower and sesame oils). I add it to everything but I think it's most effective when added to DCs and used with heat (I just use a shower cap), as a HOT and used to seal after moisturizing.

Btw @Lisa who is that in your avi? I remember her face but can't remember her name

That's Tyler Collins.
