Or coily or neither? Please explain your answer.

Sorry for the crappy pics but it's good enough to answer the question, hopefully.

Pretty hair!! :)

I would call that coily...coils and curls are the same thing to me, just a size difference.

Both. Curls are coils. Folks on forums just decided that if they are big, we shall call them curls. And if they are small, we shall call them coils. So if using forum terminology, then that hair is coily. But out in the world, folks will tell you that you have very cute tiny curls.

Two words that describes "having tiny curls/coils", are kinky and nappy. But for the sake of world peace, let's just stick to coily.

So your hair is coily and it is curly. It is both because they both represent a shape that looks like this:

Coily, I guess I think of curly being more ringlet like in appearance if that makes sense:spinning:. Either way it's very pretty!

ITA with Nonie. They're only called coils on hair boards. People here consider my hair coily, but in the world people say I have curly hair. That's also how I describe it to the "outside world".

Sent from my SCH-R910 using SCH-R910

My DH has coils/curls the size of, I don't know, coffee stirrers? He usually pics them out. but when I saw them for the first time, I thought "curly." I think coils are curls. And curls are coils. If I had to make a distinction, I'd say curls are to short to be coils, as in guys (and women) with curly hair who cut it and just have half a coil (a curl). Long curly hair is coily, to me...OK, Wait is any of this making sense???

Nonie thanks or the explanation. My new growth looks like this and when i cut a section with the relax ends off it still looks like this.

OP, is that with or without product?

These are some interesting responses. I tell people my hair is curly all the time...now I'm wondering...

Coily hair is curly but not all curly hair is coily. Does that make sense?

Your hair is coily but it would also be defined as curly in my opinion.

Oh Nonie....:lachen::lachen::lachen:

@Lynnerie, I totally get what you're saying and agree :yep:, but if I may, I'd like to elaborate in case anyone's confused like my sister the lurker.:look:

That statement is true only on hair forums where,
coily = kinky = small curls
(I say only on hair forums because I don't think folks on the outside would understand coily like we do; I don't even know if it's really a word outside of forums. I think hair folks made it up--for some weird reason. )

To put Lynnerie's statement another way that would also hold true outside hair boards:
"All kinky hair (ie hair made of small curls/coils) is curly hair (because its strands have a shape that looks like a coil) but not all curly hair (ie hair that coils) is kinky (ie made of small curls). (Some curly hair has curls too big to be called "small" or referred to as kinky.)
ETA: Chart-wise, see attachment.
