@lady_godiva :nono2: Now see...that's not exactly what I had in mind. See, if I'm coming to meet you for lunch, my hair'd be in a protective style first of all, probably in a bun or somep'n. After all, I'm meeting a Nikos' Cousin and I have gotta represent. Then I'd also try to be a little flashier than that. Did you forget the bling on my bow?? :whyme: And I'd make sure to start hollering for you from a block away so you'd be good and ready coz I hate waiting.

I'm a fix that pic for you. BRB.

Let me see if I can find a fuschia one with sequins on it.

And it seems as if the ones that are super childish people mentioned would be too small for an adults' head anyway.

I love headbands & wear them often. I have built up quite a collection. I chose if they are age appropriate, meaning I wouldn't wear my 10 yr old daughter's fabric Sponge-bob headband. lol

The yellow headband with the flower posted is even doable. I can see wearing that pulled back with a puff. Do you is how I live!

I say no.

There are special times when over the top headbands are appropriate; any pre-bridal, birthday, graduation or milestone anniversary deserves a tiara of some sort befitting the occasion.

In everyday life, generally no more than a traditional black/tortoiseshell in the corporate setting or if the dress standards are a little more liberal - then go all out.

Situation appropriate, because I love em!!!

It depends on the headband. Generally, I feel as if they are for younger people. Right now, headbands are in, but most of the styles are appropriate for women in their teens and twenties. I'm in my twenties and I'm *very* careful about the ones I wear because some are whimsical and look just plain silly on a grown woman.

Nonie It's extremely rare for one to confuse a 25-year old woman with a 40-year old woman. It's not wrinkles or sagging, it's just youth. I'm in my 20's, but I'd like to think that when I'm in my 40's, I'll still look good...nothing wrong with looking your age. I'm not trying to be mistaken for a teen, no thanks! Halle looks fabulous, but she does not look 25.

I am just getting back into headbands and I like all the ones with the bows and rhinestones on them. I work in corporate and wore one today ( clear rhinestone flower); everyone remarked on how cute it was, but I felt a little "different" wearing it and had to look at my reflection in the mirror a couple of times. I think it all depends on the individual and the look you're going for. Sometimes we wear two ponytails...is that age appropriate? Who cares if it's what you're feeling and you like your look. I say you can wear anything as long as it aligns with your outfit and you see the reflection you desire when you look in the mirror. That being said, I do have to remove a couple of my bow headbands from the lineup because I really look like Minnie Mouse when I wear them.

Solitude, so what age does Halle look like? And if she looks her age, then what age do these woman look like? :look:

I guess I just don't get what "looking a certain age" means. The lady I posted doesn't look a particular age to me. I don't know how y'all can say someone cannot dress like XYZ because it's not appropriate for her age. How would you know her age if she didn't tell you? And once you know that arbitrary number, how does knowing that suddenly translate to "Oops, you're past you prime; we need to make changes to how you dress." WTbloodyH died and made anyone rule maker of what people can and cannot wear?

I find it odd how people act like comparing 25 and 40 is like comparing 15 and 75. I mean, like what age groups should these woman be dressing like?

Better yet, can any of them wear headbands or should we send the fashion police to give them a ticket if they do coz that mere thought triggers *shudder* *gasp* *clutch pearls* *drop dead* reactions of horror?

ETA I don't know anyone who'd be pissed off if they woke up on their 40th birthday and found out they still look as they did at 25, unless they were hideous at 25. Well, except maybe you. Most people I know take it as a compliment if someone mistakes them for a younger age, and the younger they are thought to be, the bigger the grin. I know I do. *shrug*

What's more, you say "youth" is what is in 25 year-olds that isn't in 40 year-olds. Can you elaborate? When I look up the definition of youth--coz trust me I'm trying to follow here and also trying to do my homework a bit--I get words like "the quality or condition of being young, immature, or inexperienced" (Now I know we can name 25 year olds who are not immature or inexperienced); "the freshness, vigour, or vitality characteristic of young people" (Really now? So does this 77 year old dancer, ice skater, tennis player not have those?)...

See how silly it is to put humans into boxes and make nutty rules? Age ain't nothing but a number, as Aaliyah sang. It doesn't tell you anything about the person, what they can or can't do, and it darn well cannot determine what a person should or shouldn't do.

Headbands for now... what are drawz next......? Lol

You already know what it izzzzzzzzz.

Nonie - when I look at Halle Berry, I see a 40-something year old woman who looks damn good for her age. Amazing body, beautiful skin, but she's clearly not young. Everybody was ooing and aahing over some football wife named Pilar. She looks old to me. Not that she doesn't look good. One woman in Hollywood who defies age is Stacey Dash. So, I'm not saying it's not possible.

I don't go around trying to guess people's ages, but since you posted pics, I'll say that it's much easier to guess someone's age in real life than in pics. I can't define YOUTH, it just is what it is. I look at an 18-year-old and I could be slimmer than her and in better shape, but she is still younger than me...it's very clear - why is that a problem? If you look good for your age, why get defensive?

Bottom line - headbands, "Message" t-shirts, and nerd glasses are for younger people. You can post pics and dictionary definitions all day, but it is what it is.

:lachen: Yanno? What we supposed to be wearing now, bloomers? GTFOOHWTBS

well, you shouldn't be wearing little flowery girly panties. That's why they don't sell them in the adult department....

ETA: I'll try to give an example that's not headbands, so maybe folks won't be so offended. Take nerd glasses - love this trend. But, it's for younger people. On Scarlett Johannson (age 26) it looks cute, trendy. On Madonna (age 52) - she looks like she's trying waaayyy too hard.

**makes heavy sigh and signals for Jean-Claude to bring her the gin bottle.**

I sure hope there isn't a cut off age, because I just started wearing some old headbands recently--and I really liked the look :yep:

 @Solitude, must say you are rather entertaining.

First of all, who's being defensive? I'm challenging a hypothesis that I find absolutely ridiculous and asking those who propose it to explain themselves. That you find Madonna trying too hard when those glasses have always been worn by old folks (wayyyyyyyyy older than Madonna) is beyond comical. But when I think about it, we're from two different worlds. Heck you were still in diapers when I was graduating from high school so it's like me having a discussion with my mom about what's hip and what isn't. For the record, those glasses have always been ugly to me and they look ugly on both of them--uber nerdy and just wrong! (Fashionistas shoot me but I call crazy when I see it. Methinks Fashionistas just have a way of hypnotizing folks and getting them to buy any BS they sell them. I wish someone would try telling me something so ugly is cute. :lachen: )

About Pilar... the high cheekbones and little fat on face are a huge give-away that she may not be a teenager--note I say "may" coz I'm sure there's some human somewhere with a mature face while she's still pretty young. But I wouldn't be able to tell if she were in her 20's, 30's or 40's...coz I don't have the genius to discern """youth""". You say you can't tell youth or absence thereof from pictures, huh? So when did you hang out with any of these people in real life so you can actually see them (not in pics--includes moving pictures) and discern they have youth or don't have youth? :look: And what on earth does "Looks good for her age" bloody mean? Doesn't it mean her age is supposed to look worse than that so that she looks that way means she looks better than she's supposed to look at that age. And if her age is supposed to look worse, (erhmm..let me think about this... :brainy:) then she has to look like a younger age. But what age then? Now that is the question. According to you, cannot be 25 :look: as if 25 is a SET look. If it were, would there be all the debates about how old Beyonce is or was a few years ago? Maybe now folks have come to agree on her age...but I remember endless threads arguing about how she isn't the age she professes. I don't know if you took part but since you seem to have this ability to tell when someone is a certain age from how they look, I'll be sure to pay attention if you ever enter such a discussion as those of Bey. I am skeptical, but hey, I do like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Now back to the topic at hand, wouldn't it be funny if everyone 40+ decided one day to don whatever headband we want and just step out in style (coz that's how we roll!) just to annoy so-called determinants of what people should wear? :lachen: I'm actually considering it. :scratchch

Who says they don't sell flowery panties for grown folks? :look: I have a married friend who turned 50 who only buys those, and not thongs, but same shape and style they sell for little kids...so hello? And she doesn't shop in kiddies department either. Heck even at Victoria's Secret among the adult selection are floral ones.

And :lachen: at you writing "You shouldn't be wearing little flowery girly panties". You talking to me? I hope not coz I dunno who died and made you boss of me. What happens if I don't listen and do what the heck I want?

Nonie :spank: stop it :giggle: Stop

Okay to me headbands are made to wear. I wear headbands almost every day. Because when I am driving, my hair is WL and it is flipping in my eyes. That is a NO NO. I have four boys to take care of and that is a distraction. BUT..... I love headbands and My nieces has her own hair accessories line where she makes TONS of headbands and sells them to the majority of guess who Adults. THey can be made Chic and hip and vintage. I love the vintage ones, myself.

But Toooo Each his own. Fashions become that because someone took that chance to go out on a limb.

When I sew, I have to go on a limb and try new things. I love gathers and flowers and princess seams. It's all about how you put it together ;)

Nonie

Still trying to figure out why/how you can disagree with my statements that 20-year old women generally look younger than 40-year old women & that some trends are for younger people but it's not really worth me arguing about...

...trying to be the boss of you? Yeah, um, okay....I can't argue with random ish

Eta: nevermind. My boyfriend just asked me why am I arguing with women about age. He's right...

 When did I disagree with that statement? Anyone with half a brain and some general knowledge knows that generally looking an age and being an age are directly proportional. Even this guy :dork: knows that. It's kinda hard to have a discussion when one of us isn't keeping up so I do agree with you on this being a futile effort.

Your last paragraph just proves what I mean. I KNOW others totally got where I was coming from while it clearly flew way over your head. Clearly "age appropriate" is a description we can attach to many things, not just headbands and panties.

No, there is NOT a cut off age. For example...
Little girls wear dresses, but so do women of ALL ages....but I wouldn't wear a frilly little girls dress, rather we wear what suits our style and is age appropriate.
We can't throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Solitude Have you not been in Victoria's Secret, JCPenny, Belk, Macy, etc lately?

There is no cut off age for A headband. There is, however, a cut off age for the hard, fabric over plastic, coming up off of your head headband.

That age is 7.

I dont like most of them for anyone past the single digits of age, dont wear them, looks silly/kiddie to me...kinda cheapens the style. Have seen a very few cute ones, but bows and fake flowers and glitter and rainbows and whatnot on adults looks goofy. jmo.

I love the fake flower ones, especially the Harlem Rennassiance looking ones. Some of the ones in this thread are so cute! Just give me a glass of red and I am ready to channel my inner Zora.

say it aint so joe...

Tehehe, I did the same thing this morning and then laughed. Whatever, I KNOW I looked cute in my headband! The twisted necks did not fail me.
