Oh yeah, I'm p.o'ed enough about this to be up at almost midnight postin'. I will try to be brief: DD, DS and I were coming back from our evening park romp. DD's hair has been loose all day. Now, DD has baby-fine 4a/3c ringlets. Fuggedabout 2nd day hair, DD does not even get "All Day" hair in any style--braids twists, etc...due to the texture. I'm aware of this and sometimes she does border on looking like one of those biracial babies with moms "not knowin' about the butters." BUT today, she just had a curly fro. That's all (I took pics on my phone, I will try to post). No matting, nothing too crazy, just a little unruly from the aforementioned park romp.

So we passed these men who saw DD and were saying hello to her, like "hey little princess aww she's so cute," etc... and I was trying to get her to be polite and say "hello and thank you." Well...

She was distracted and wasn't looking where she was going and a (black) lady with an italian ice cart almost ran into her. I told DD to watch out and look where she was going. The lady apologized and I told her it was OK, since DD wasn't looking, etc...the exchange was pleasant--which makes what happened next even more bizarre.

The men were chastising her for not seeing DD and almost running into her...

And this [bleep]in' [bleep] [bleep] says "I saw her, her mother needs to take care of her hair!" ::record scratch::

What???? :brucelee:

Oh no this [bleep] di-n't. Now, I was raised right, but if I could show you the neck-length broke [bleep] strings of relaxed [bleep] attached to her head, you would say the same thing! I could have gotten much more extra, but I just said "At least she has some." Immature, I know.

But when I tell you that I have been "taking care" of this child's hair since she was a newborn (literally), devoted hours to product research, blogging, lots of money on the best products, taken great pains to utilize the best methods, been a virtual nazi about everything that is applied to and used on her hair, and she has MBL, very healthy curls, I don't wanna hear nothin' no italian ice cart pushin' no hair havin' broke off can't even afford a weave [bleep] has to say about my hair care!!!!!

Woo-sahhhh. OK. I'm done. The nerve...

Girl she would have retracted her statement when she saw my facial expression. You handeled it well. But don't let that bald headed [bleep]. [Bleep] up your day, you and your kids had. She really aint worth it but I know its hard to refrain when people have ish to say about your kids. Keep up the good work and [bleep] everyone else.

Curly MBL hair probably doesn't look too good loose on a small child since they tend to play alot and the styles don't hold. You should really try to keep it in ponytails or styles where it can stay looking somewhat presentable and not tangle.

With that said, the lady's comment wasn't necessary. But those men should have minded their own business instead jumping on a grown woman especially since the woman had already apologized. Those men provoked her comment by jumping on her after she had apologized. That still doesn't make her comment right though.

Girl! My momma claws came out as I was reading your post!

Anybody that knows me knows that there are 3 groups you stay away from unless you wanna have a serious problem with me: my daddy, my husband, and my children. And you'll get cut QUICK for the latter :yep:.

She's lucky, that's all I'll say .

I should mention that her hair is MBL stretched, it's just below her shoulders with the shrinkage. It looks good about 85% of the time LOL. It's just those few hours between daycare and home that are a little:ohwell: And I'll keep it real, we are talking end of the day hair. Did it look like it looked this a.m.? No. But her ponytails look crazy at this time of day as well. It's her hair texture, not my maintenance.

I'm going to figure out how to post a pic. If nothing else the child's hair is TAKEN CARE OF, so that made the woman's comment extra extra! And why is she jumping on MY child's hair, because these random men are talking about her lack of italian ice cart driving skills??? Anywho, I'm glad you think she's still wrong! :yep:

Chile you DO NOT need to explain yourself. Any momma knows about that end of the day hair, and really, that isn't even the point. The lady should have kept her mouth SHUT. Anybody with sense knows you do not come out of your mouth wrong to a woman (who you don't know for that matter :perplexed) about her child :nono:.

How the heck you almost run in to someone's child then say something about how they take care of that child's head? the heck?

LOL. I'm so glad you understand. I mean, honestly, the real reaction I wanted to give was to start off with an expletive and keep the dice rollin' when I'm doin' that thang! I just could not believe she went there--on my baby!!! And because she almost hit her with the cart??? Double-wrong! Maybe she was saying she was so distracted by looking at my child's natural hair with disdain that she almost hit her with the cart? I'm going to post a pic. It really did not look that bad...(although I'm sure now that there's a pic someone will say it did :yep:)

OK, trying this out:
Edited to change orientation: and again--dangit!!!

yeah girl, I don't even have kids but as protective as I am over what's said about my family, I say you did well! I don't think what you said was even immature at all!!! You didn't curse, or say all you said to us! So you let her know....and kept it classy! Good job you!

PS I'd love to see DD's hair...sounds lovely!

So, I don't know if I need to make that bigger, but I think you can see that the child's hair is not dry, broken off, or otherwise jacked up. Definitely not jacked up enough for some rannnndom-[bleeped] italian ice cart pusher to announce to the world that I need to take care of her hair...that was just plain wrong.

Your daughter is too cute. And I don't see an issue with her hair. That cart lady has issues

Girl, you handled it right, you taught your daughter not to entertain such comments. You modeled good behavior, then vented in the appropriate way...to us! :lachen:....seriously, getting it off your chest is healthy, but you know that woman is of so little importance to you and your daughter it's not even worth thinking about after today! Your DD is gorgeous, and again, the important thing is you set a good example!

Her texture looks similar to mine now after a twistout has let the wind hit it...
She shouldn't have said that but you know many people still aren't wise to
natural hair. Sometimes I think of how much time and effort I put into the health
of my hair and then look at it like "it's healthy but if I didn't know better I'd
wonder:. You had a good come back too lol. Your baby is a cutie pie

Silenttulip You feel me! And girl, that's more than just the wind: that's wind, naptime, 3 trips to the playground (two at daycare), the stroller, carseat hair, and just general day-old braidout with age-appropriate products. One of the reasons her hair is so long is that I don't do a lot of ponytails, elastics, etc... I know I need to try soaking them in oil, but elastics really do a number on her hair. Once I saw that, it was all about braidouts and wash and goes, and she still has her original length from when she was a newbie

And...I guess maybe this is the true source of my insecurity: I...never...learned...to...cornrow!!!:cry2: And after seeing many tutorial vids, I'm certain I never will. I don't have the dexterity or the patience! Perhaps I will find someone to braid her hair up for a little protective styling, but I love DD's hair and I think it's doing fine. :yep:

Girrrl, I would have calmly bought one of those Italian ices, let my daughter lick it and then threw it...and been like fetch, Biyatch...and yes I know that would have set a bad example for my little one but we can't always be perfect...maybe this is why I should not be a parent....anyway....the daughter too cute!

@Cherokee-n-Black I also never learned how to cornrow and likely never will) and I also felt a way about it...like little black girls are suppose to have cornrows right:look: Anyway...when @Nonie taught me how to do 2 strand twists - it changed my life. My dd is 4b/a but my girlfriends dd who's 3something has also embraced it maybe you could try it out...I'll be back to post a link for you. Once the whole head is in twists I then style from there..half up, loose ponytails, pompadours, french rolls, buns etc.

ETA: Here's the like there are pics and video instruction in this thread.

HAHA...this is the kind of thing I would have thought of doing after I said nothing due to shock and went home all annoyed with myself:nono:

@Cherokee-n-Black, The nerve of that woman. What did your baby's hair have to do with the situation. Even so, She's a child, who expects a childs hair to stay completely in tact, allday!

Chile, You better than me, cause it woulda been Icees all over the place! :nono:

But You handled yourself well! That's what I'm working toward, self-control! Good for you!

my DD's hair is the same way. won't stay neat in a style to save her life. her hair is SL in layers. it is 3b/3c. i remember i had her hair styled in a more "ethnic way"( a lot of ponytails and barrettes) and her teacher at the time stated to her, "i see you got you hair done today!" please! i comb my baby's hair daily. sometimes i just put it in two puffs when we are pressed for time, but i don't allow her to leave home with her hair all over her head.

i would have been upset too and it was best that you didn't get into with that lady, since you had your babies with you. who knows how things would have went down?

Thank you lots! I feel you re: the cornrows. It took me a while to get the whole "mainstreaming," especially after seeing what happens when you leave them in too long (I have literally seen girls with long beautiful hair lose major inches from leaving braids in too long--of course at the time, all I saw was "braids," now we know why). I have to tell you, when non-black moms started giving tutorials on cornrowing, I was feeling all kinds of inadequate! :spinning:
HAHA...this is the kind of thing I would have thought of doing after I said nothing due to shock and went home all annoyed with myself:nono:

She is so lucky (and I'm probably lucky too) that she had already passed me, that I had both my 1 year old son and my daughter with me, and that I did not have time to think about a more involved response, because she might have gone home feeling a different way about herself and life in general!

That Popsicle lady is about as good as a unicorn on crack!

Baby Girl and her hair are adorable!!

And LOL at you using the Busta Rhymes line!!! "let me show ya how to keep the dice rollin when u doin that thang"

She's ADORABLE and her hair is beautiful and looks like my DD's. By the end of the day DD's hair dosnt look like it does when we leave the house (I carry an arsenal of hair products in the baby bag when we go out so it can TRY to look the same way throughout the day:look::lachen:). Her texture is just SO baby fine it's hard to hold a style. 2nd day hair doesn't exist for her either. I totally get ya.

That woman's comment was completely uncalled for. I know I would have flipped my [bleep]. Your comment was perfect. She got the point. The nerve of people. I can never understand how people can insult a CHILD. It's so ignorant :nono:

End of the day hair...shoot. Mid day hair can be questionable looking. DD has the same type as the OP's daughter. I can do her hair at 9 and by 1 it look like I never touched it.

She dead *** wrong for talking sideways.
