Just Say It...Do You NOT Base Before Relaxing?

Yes I do. If you value your scalp you would too. So relaxer fell on my ear yesterday while doing a touch up and I didnt base my ear......I just cant imagine that same pain on my scalp.

when i relaxed, i NEVER based, and dont know anybody that actually does. i just didnt see the point. you're not supposed to put the relaxer on your scalp anyway...

When I was self relaxing I did base my entire scalp with vaseline and I put it on thick and it didn't effect my bone straight outcome or some burning.

I agree that your not suppose to put relaxer on your scalp but accidents do happen and if you base your scalp you have just saved your scalp from the resulting burn.

My last relaxer I didn't. There were no adverse results...but for the sake of doing what's right I will continue to base going forward.

I don't base and I never burn.

I base around my clients head and ears but I do not base the scalp.

In that case maybe I'll continue to not base......knowing that I didn't base the last time made me more cautious which is a good thing.

I would base my edges (front / back) and around the ears but not my scalp. I never burned, unless I made the mistake of scratching my scalp a day or two before relaxer time .

I've skipped basing a couple of times, I remember one time when I paid for it dearly. For the most part I base scalp and edges

I based the edges and ears. Not my scalp. Idk if my stylist ever based my whole scalp now that I think abt it. I had a slight tingling in the nape area (put it on too soon, first time really self relaxing). But no other issues

I always base because I will burn like you would not believe. I've been so thorough the last few years that I have gone from bone-straight touchups to texlaxing. I prefer healthy over "perfect".

I used to religiously...and I actually always recommend everyone else to. But my new stylist only bases my edges and ears. However she is very careful to apply to my hair and not my scalp and since switching to no-lye I swear these are the most pain-free relaxers I've ever had in my life. My hair seems to be thriving and I've not had a single burn since....so it works for me. *shrugs*

Self relax and never base...never burn. Some people may just have overly sensitive scalp OR you have some how irritated the crap out of your scalp before you applied your relaxer. :(

I only base around the hairline and ears. I use Mizani and it doesn't burn me. When I used other relaxers I would base because I would burn before the relaxer was applied to my entire head.

Hecks no!

I base twice if I relax at home. The night before and then before I relax. ;)
