I've been using aloe vera on my hair before I moisturise..my hair turns out fine, It certainly helps with definition..but what are the health benefits??

Does it repair the hairs structure? balance the PH? Strengthen?
People mix aloe into their oils/butters/cremes..I wanna know what makes it so amazing for the hair!?:yep:

I know one thing it does....it stains! I was using this last night as a DC and after rubbing my aloe vera gel mix on my hair my hands were stained a burnt orange. And its a really deep burnt orange. I only used aloe vera gel in my moisture spritz prior to trying this so I had no idea. I then got to thinking maybe aloe vera gel is the reason I have this hideous reddish-orange tint on my hair. I use Lily of the desert whole leaf. Anyone else have this problem or did I do something wrong?

Stains??? I've never had that happen...is your orange in colour?

I have NEVER colored my hair before.....ever. Maybe it was something in the mix u think? Here is the mix:

-Aloe vera gel
-Giovanni smooth as silk deeper moisture condish
-Oils (evoo, apricot oil, jojoba oil)
-Honey
-pure glycerin

I did look at the aloe vera gel and notice its not 100% clear and has a sort of tint to it (its crazy that I never noticed this before)
Its not outdated or a bad batch....its good I just never knew it did this.:perplexed

OsnapCnapp! that's weird sorry I don't have any suggestions for you unless you have an orange flavoured Aloe Vera (I've seen them in the stores). The mix doesn't sound like it should colour much less stain.

That is really weird. I use the same brand and have never had that problem. I also use it in my moisture spritzes, and it's a light yellow color normally :yep:. I normally use it just to keep my pH in the 5 range, I find that it helps keep the cuticles laid down and assists in moisturization.

Aloe Vera Gel by itself doesn't stain. Something else is going on. I use Lily of the Desert as well both alone and in my mix. And I've never had any staining. It does have a light tint but not staining.

Perhaps it is having an effect when mixed with the Apricot oil or with the honey? not sure.

I was thinking that too even though the apricot oil pours out clear. At least clearer than jojoba oil. So I guess it is the oils and honey since no one else has ever had this issue. I love this stuff....I mean afterward my thick hair was like butter and very moisturized so I will continue to use it I guess I have to just be careful with how I mix it.

this may be a silly question but do you keep it refrigerated

Next time you mix it just try adding products 1 by 1 to see at which point it changes. It may be the combination of products that solves it.

If AVG was staining I would know because I drop stuff everywhere

And we use AVG in our prepoo, shampoo and leave-ins with no problem.

I've never used Apricot oil or honey in anything yet. Let us know what you find.

I'm surprised you guys didn't mention how it also contains proteins...I read on here somewhere that it has collagen in it. i also see that the article touches on that as well. Also it makes for an awesome "hair gel" Aaoe+castor oil keeps my kitchen in order <----learned that tip on here too.

I always keep aloe around. I drink it daily and use it as a facial toner whan necessary.

Honey gradually lightens hair after a while--my hair has a reddish tint in the sun, but I purposely mix in honey to get this:yep: Molasses gives the same moisture/strengthening effects as honey but its great for dark hair bcuz of the color.
Hope that helps!

In my experience, pure aloe stains a rusty color, even if it appears clear.

I buy aloe leaves and cut the gel out, but took me a while to realize that was what was staining my stuff. I didn't realize it was aloe alone until I cut leaves in the BVI while wearing white shorts. I wiped my hands all over my shorts like a child. Stain city!

kittikat24 thanks for that info! I guess I will stop using honey because I hate that reddish tint on me. It doesn't look right on me.

EtherealEnigma you see what I mean! I hate this too because that color is just ugly to me and if its staining my hands so badly it has to be staining the mess out of my hair.....but dang it, its one of my signature moisturizers! Im so confused.

I hear you! Nothing moisturizes my hair like aloe does! I haven't been using it much this year (got lazy and stuck with Giovanni Direct Leave-In and Aussie Hair Insurance). I think switching to molasses like the above poster said might help to cut down on the red tint or maybe you can do a black tea rinse.

My hair turns a crazy, really not cute red color every summer without fail and I hate it (felt so weird as a kid)!
