So basically this product is no longer in production - but it works like a dream?

I couldn't find a website for Lustrasilk.

Glad this was bumped! Looking to straighten my hair to get rid of these splits!!! So is this stuff good or not? Did someone mention it releases formaldehyde? :perplexed

The lady who used to straighten my friends hair used this, her hair always looked like she had a relaxer. They still sell it at the BSS in my area.

I use it for my once or twice a year straightening. I bought it last on ebay. I think it gives me a smoother press and also helps with reversion. I wouldn't say that it allows me to use a lower temperature to straighten or that it makes my hair look like it's been relaxed. That's not a negative though, because my hair wasn't silky when it was relaxed. lol

Based on my research it doesn't release formaldehyde. The super version contains formic acid and doesn't have an especially strong smell. The regular version doesn't list formic acid as an ingredient.

"Formic acid is the simplest organic acid, present in large quantities in animal and plant life. It is a clear liquid with a sharp acidic smell. It decomposes easily in the environment into carbon oxides and water. It is manufactured from carbon monoxide and water.
Formic acid is present in the nature as a natural substance. The ants use it in their defence and alarm systems, and it is also found in plants such as the common stinging nettle."

So how did you use this product? With a leave-in or alone?
On natural hair?
Blow dry straight or air dryed?

Just trying to figure out what made this product so special.

I use the product as a leave in. I also use crisco, grease, or oil ( It's almost impossible to weigh my hair down).

I'm natural and I typically blow dry before straightening. I have air dried in plaits as well. My hair responds better to it than serum, so I skip the serum.

Really, I think if you get good results already, it may not offer anything extra. For me, I prefer the way my hair behaves with this stuff over serum and it keeps it from reverting as quickly.

Okay so I stumbled upon this thread and bought two bottles of this stuff, one regular and one super :look:. I don't plan on straightening my hair for another year or two though :look: :look:. Just one question for the folks who use this: does your hair revert back to its natural texture?

yes, mine reverted back very quickly. I just make sure not to get any on my scalp or it itches. My scalp is very sensitive. My cousin in SF told me about it her hairdresser uses it on her also.

It's not like a relaxer, or the BKT. It's just a straightening spray. Your hair should revert just fine. The first time I used it, was in a salon and I've used it once or twice a year for the past 6 years or so with no problems. It's not a miracle straightener either. If you get good results from using serum or something else it's not a must purchase item.

Oh, and it's not a heat protectant, so if you're concerened about weighing your hair down with too many products and you want to use a heat protectant, you might do better with a thermal protectant spray or serum.

I bumped this thread for the heat trainers. I'm originally from Cali & we used this for pressing. My aunt who was a hairdresser said it is a heat training solution. Over time it causes the hair to be heat trained faster than using just heat alone.

I'm using it now and I think it's great. Try not to get it on your scalp, it can make it itchy. Not sure if it is doing any harm, but it's best not to feel itching if you can avoid it.:look:

Bump!

I used to use super years ago. It made my hair silky and light and straight.

Does anyone still use this?

My mom who is in her late 60's used this. It has been around a long time.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y
