Hol' up.....i know ya'll aint really mad about her complaining about her hair right??...Come on now....we're better than that....everybody has an issue with their CURLS or KINKS at some point.

people should just really say how they feel. tell the truth. you feel like to be apart of the natural hair journey, struggle, you have to have type 4 hair. just go a head and say it.

because Taren cant possibly have hair issues. shoot she got dat good hurrrrrr.

Funny you say that because people were giving the side eye when Taren made that video about needing to have kinky hair to be in the "natural hair community" too...you mad?

i remember when she made that video.
its funny because i dont think people realize exactly how they feel until they watch a video and find themselves going:rolleyes: and then have to catch it lol.
people really want to believe IMO that "going natural" is for anyone with curly kinky wavy hair. they want to believe that if youve been struggling with your hair for whatever reason, trying to make it do what it doesnt naturally, and then you just "go natural", that this journey is for you.
but deep down they still feel offended when a type 2-3 struggles with their hair. how dare you have issues with your hair? shoot if i had your hair you couldnt tell me nothin' :lachen::lachen: i really believe most dont realize they feel this way until they find themselves offended.

Why do some of you think 4b hair is soo hard to deal with?? As someone who has 4b hair, I don't find it hard to manage at all. Yes, it took some time to get to know my hair but I still don't feel like it was a struggle or just sooo much harder than another hair type. Why is 4b or kinkier hair seen as parameter to be used on the difficulty of one's hair struggles??? That makes no sense to me. Unless you actually have someone else's hair, you cannot determine how hard or easy one's hair journey is. On that note, I don't see anything wrong with what Taren said. It is her vlog to express how she feels about whatever. She has a right to express her challenges with her hair just like someone with a kinkier texture does. But please don't assume that there is a level of difficulty (whether it is low or high) when dealing with particular hair types.

I know everyone's hair is different but I just can not believe it takes like 4 hrs to do curly hair. I wont rollerset my hair because I don't feel like putting all that time into it. Wash and go is the fastest and easiest thing for me to do, love it, love it, love it. And if I have to go out, since I cover I just leave in my 3 plaits from the night before and take them out when I come back in the house and take my wet hands and finger through my hair and I am done.

Gina has a right to complain about her hair!
Some ladies really do be going balls to the wall when it comes to this natural hair stuff, I did not know being a natural had so many rules:ohwell:

I go through what Gina was explaining in that video just about every day, although i am not natural anymore my hair still behaves & looks natural. And it is so tiresome to have to do my hair. Everyday i have to remind myself that it is JUST HAIR!
BUT.. If some one would have the nerve to tell me "Suck it up, You dont have my hair type".. i would have to cut them with my denman brush:nono:

Well.........while I think her hair SHOULD be easier to deal with than 4A-B hair, I dont do her hair so I cant say it is a breeze or it SHOULD be a breeze to do.

I feel 2 different ways about this:

1) Everyone has their hair struggle, so why is it that only certain people can complain? Both straight and kinky hair types (and every type in between) have their own individual issues. Pin straight ladies complain about lack of volume and curly/kinky types complain about shrinkage and tangles.

2) I don't think this is a good/bad hair debate like some in here are making it seem. A type 1 person going around calling her hair nappy and unmanageable (yes, I've seen it happen) does warrant a side-eye, because a) her hair isn't nappy b) if she actually had kinky hair, then she wouldn't go around complaining about her straight hair being "nappy." That's like someone like Zoe Saldana going around complaining about how fat she is knowing good and well she isn't. Folks would be all on her like, "girl, go get yourself some real issues."

At the end of the day, some hair types may have less of a struggle with the things that WE (natural hair women on LHCF) struggle with: ssk's, tangles, shrinkage, etc. But just because they lack our specific struggles doesn't mean they won't gain any specific hair struggles of their own.

*kanye shrug*

IMO, the OP was just expressing "surprise" that Taren916 would be frustrated with or complain about her hair. It didn't sound to be like she was "hating on her" or mad at her for it.

My mother (4b/c texture, like mine) wears a short afro (about 1 1/2") and she always just rakes the comb through it. Everytime she does it I cringe because I can literally hear the breakage occuring. She doesn't care because she's not trying to grow it any longer. This is the one thing I know that separates natural 4b/c hair type from other hair types, having to wet or moisturize the hair (even healthy hair) before combing (in order to avoid massive breakage). I believe this is at the core of why women who have 4b/c hair think their hair type is the hardest to deal with.

It's true that if somone with straight hair was continually trying to style her hair into an afro, she would undoubtly run into lots of frustration with and end up complaining about her hair texture. None of us seem to ever be satisfied with our hair textures/types. But this same woman with straight hair, frustrated with trying to style it into an afro, can still comb her natural hair without causing massive breakage, something a 4b/c head can't do. All I'm saying is that I think this is the reason why women who have hair texture of 4b/c (maybe even d?, seriously, I'm not trying to be smart) tend to be surprised (not angry, just surprised)that women who have 4a type hair (and up) also get frustrated with their hair.

:yep::yep:

You must have 10ZZZZ natural hair to have any hair complaints.

WOW!!! these comments are crazy...GOOD LAWD she has it easy...she has that GOOD curly hair.......I mean REALLY...so everything is easy for her...she dont know what a struggle is..I think sum of yall need to sit down and re-evaluate how u feel about ur own hair...
S.N...I luv that cut on her..

I love my hair and I get it. It's like hearing a white person complaining about how hard it is to be white. Doesn't mean I hate being black: I am just aware that some have more "advantages". Of course, what I consider an advantage is subjective.

Why dont you just come out with it and call her "applehead"

I guess I don't get it. :nono:

In this video from last year she's discussing her frustrations with her hair. She talks about how it takes her a lot of time, she wishes she had uniform curls, she spends a lot of money trying to find staple products, and she needs a break. What does her hair type/texture have to do with it? Why isn't she allowed to feel this way? Because she has 3A/B hair? Seriously? I've had similar frustrations lately - it takes me an hour to cowash, detangle, and bun my hair. Not a lot to some people but I'm SL and at an awkward stage where I have to style my hair every day. No second day hair for anything. I would like to cowash my hair daily now that it's getting warmer, but I can't justify the time spent. Washing, DCing, and detangling takes hours on a Sunday. I'm tired of it. I wish my curls would dry the way they look wet, but instead they tighten up and shrink up, so my WNG's look all of 4 inches. I have to wear my hair stretched. I have given up on staple products and just decided Tresemme Naturals would be my end all be all conditioner for cowashes, moisturizing, DCing. I'm making it work because I don't want to spend any more money. I have a 4a curl pattern - does it make it alright for me to say this, and not Taren? Who hasn't dealt with one or all three of these issues before?

I love my hair, and I would never characterize my frustrations as a struggle. I just have my moments, and then I move on. I don't think I have it any better or worse than any other woman with natural hair, regardless of her curl pattern or texture. And I don't see why any other woman shouldn't be able to express her own opinions about her hair without ridicule from others. We're women for goodness' sake - who hasn't had issues at some time in their life with their hair?

SMH.

Oh, but I do like her new cut on her! I think it's cute!:yep:

WantNatural, yep. It would be different if she was on the video complaining about how "nappy" her hair is, but she expressed her frustrations over her individual issues with her hair.

chocolatesis I don't think anyone is talking about the OP (at least I wasn't), but were referring more to some of the comments in the thread, which didn't look like simple surprise to me...Also, I do not have 4b/c hair but I would never even think of detangling my hair without a moisturizer or it being wet with conditioner. It would be a breakage and tangle disaster.

I've seen a countless number of threads created that basically deem type 3 hair as superior. From the responses in this thread, it appears to be considered legit if you have type 4 hair. So basically on LHCF, you're more legit and have to go through a power struggle if your hair is in the 4 category? :afro: In contrast, you're superior and get to walk a bed of sweet smelling roses if you have type 3 hair? :Rose: What a conundrum... :spinning: :look: :drunk: :perplexed

Don't worry though, I'm just being facetious. :look:

I can understand that everyone has issues with their hair. And the grass is always greener on the other side. Some can look at Taren's hair and think she is crazy. While others look at her and agree she has valid issues. I on the other hand think it's a Non Mutha***kin Factor ***ches :lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: :lachen: I love Eve for giving me a phrase that can be used anywhere and at anytime to express my feelings :look::look:
