Pricing by hair type?

I don't understand why they keep spelling twist as "twyst." Very tacky IMO.

And this is just hilarious

RATES we realize when a potential customer calls that he or she is looking for the cheapest price around. They are assuming that they will get the highest quality of service at minimum cost. It is soon discovered that you get what you pay for.

The can kiss my grits! 15 dollars for an applecider vinegar rinse

I can do all this mess at home for free-ninety-nine

including my extra "d"tangling for my non-biracial textured hair:lachen:

Right. WTH are they doing for the ACV rinse? A big ol' bottle of vinegar costs $5 and they what, pour it on your head after diluting it??? That's a $15 service?

Wow. Just saw this. She is also charging $35 for APROGEE protein treatments when a bottle doesn't more than $12 from Sally's.

It's silliness like this that makes it hard to go to a natural hair salon for me. I get that you want to make money but there are limits.

I also notice that she is slotting each service with a maximum of 2 to 4 hours. So if I get slow stylist who is disorganized, I will have to also pay extra?

I mean really, I'm trying to wrap my head around the biracial pricing. What exactly is a biracial texture? And why should it deserve a discount? So let's continue to perpetuate the good hair/bad hair myths and alienate people by saying their hair isn't good enough to warrant good pricing? That's bad business, it really did offend me, and for that reason alone I wouldn't go to this salon.

I do understand some of the policies, but I wonder if they will deduct $15 if they're more than 15 minutes late for your appointment. And if they only accept cash and therefore do not have a credit/debit card number on file, how do they charge $25 for a no show? If I miss my appointment I just won't go back - how are they going to charge me for it?

On top of that there's nothing worse than trying to be professional when you are not. The misspelled words throughout the site - there's no reason for them. It doesn't take much to have someone proofread the text.

I don't mean to trash someone's site or their business, but this really got on my bad side. I'm done.

I thought I was the only one that caught that. :lachen:

LOL Hey, they can't spell worth a crap, but they don't want to be responsible for your hairline being behind your ears. :lachen:

okay i get charging a higher rate due to thickness & length, but what does age have to do with it? i'm confused :perplexed

Maybe they mean kids cost more?
Lol. I don't know...

It's funny that "biracial" hair is less (don't get me started on that term but I'm assuming that means wavy/curly/looser curls). Every braider I've ever gone to despises doing my looser curled hair and wants to charge me more. When my dd was 2 and I was pregnant, I needed someone to do her hair b/c I was not feeling well and had horrible carpal tunnel. She is my hair twin - 3abc. I had 2 braiders tell me that they hated doing "slippery" hair like hers and wanted to charge me more for her 2 year old head that was sl at most. We finally found a place that had flat charges.

All that said, I'm not sure her hair is any easier or harder to do than my 4a child. I spent 6 hours doing twists on both last weekend. Neither was easy to do!

With their hair segregation policies that border on what can only best be described as ignorant I am slightly perplexed as to their target victims I'm meant customers, and then it dawned on me that in all likelihood that sadly their target clientele who patronized their salon on a regular bias would be persons like my hair guru Bonnet girl.

Isn't this some form of discrimination that is illegal?

ETA:
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Discrimination on the basis of an immutable characteristic associated with race, such as skin color, hair texture, or certain facial features violates Title VII, even though not all members of the race share the same characteristic.

Somebody is in trouble :nono:

I used to braid my sister's 3a/b hair, and maaan it was hard work, you hear me?:drunk:

I wonder how they would charge Lenny Kravitz...

Their policies make me glad to be a DIYer.

Sooo...why did I tweet this link, and one of my followers called them to ask what the difference between natural and biracial hair is...and they said...
She said biracial hair is wavy and 'natural' hair is "well nappy" in her words Lol. I was like oh so wavy hair is not natural? She was like you know what I mean it's soft.

So then she told me that she told the woman that she had two biracial kids and their hair isn't wavy, and the woman said, "Oh, I guess it's only in some people," and wanted her to make an appointment. She told her that they are ignorant and their prices are horrendous...then the woman was about to cuss her out but she said goodbye and hung up.

I don't agree with her policies, but I hope the LHCF mob doesn't go after her with pitchforks. Clearly this is a small business with questionable knowledge of proper business practices, grammar, spelling, etc... I'm pretty sure a lot of the pictures are random google images, I hope they have the rights to use them...I digress. I assume this is a small company, just trying to make it. Their policies are a bit much and their customers should expect to pay any outrageous price they see fit; but I cannot stand to see a small business taken down by the Internet.

I don't think the Civil Rights Act needs to be brought up. People outside of hair boards are still functioning at a high level of naivety when it comes to afro textured hair. "Biracial hair" is certainly not the correct term to use, but it's common place to lots of people. Just my 2 cents.

As the owner of a "natural hair salon," she should not be displaying such ignorance. Why would I want you to do my hair if you don't even know that biracial hair does not actually exist? When you go to a regular salon, they don't charge you differently for having "black" hair, do they? No...even though they may have to cut my hair differently or spend more time blow drying it, or it takes longer to flat iron because my hair is thick. I'm sorry but that is some bs.

I can't stand to see someone try to discriminate against me because I have hair that is
"well nappy"
. Small business or no small business discrimination is wrong.

I see your point, but since when has marketing always been politically correct? They're obviously targeting a customer base who may not be as educated, can afford to pay, still believe the "biracial hair" thing, or simply just don't care as much about hair as we do.

Sidenote: It's funny how we (myself included) want more black owned hair businesses, but in the next breath form a mob when there is a discrepancy. If every salon met our expectations, there wouldn't be any hairboards.

That's true, but that doesn't mean it's not bs.

And I can respectfully exclude myself from the black owned hair business point. I care about good business practices, no matter whom they are from.

I agree, but my point is thousands of people see what's posted on this site. I don't think it's necessary for people who would never have heard about this business or would never patronize it to call and make a fuss. Supply and demand takes care of poor business practices. The salon will realize people are not going to pay X amount of dollars to have vinegar poured on their heads.

I just don't think an intervention is necessary. Lots of people have the view that biracial hair is xyz and all black hair is abc. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that's reality. Most salons I've seen charge different prices for different heads of hair. Longer hair cost more pretty much everywhere. If I go to a Dominican salon, they want to charge more because 'natural hair can't be rollerset.' In that case, I just keep it moving and go somewhere else. They lost my business.

Yes, 99% of the words on that website are ignorant but the pitchforks are just not necessary. That's my opinion on it. I also think it's ridiculous to start a thread titled 'OMG YoutubeUser99 Combed Her Hair Really Rough at the 3:12 Minute Mark'... all of a sudden the views increase exponentially and the negative comments stream in. *shrug*

Pitchforks? Where? I agree with your sentiment 100%, yep, people are often ignorant and the thing to do is KIM. Making comments about it isn't attacking them, there's no intervention in that. I don't see anyone here calling the NAACP. I'm giving them a :ohwell:, then a :look:, followed by a , complete with a .
