I got chills from the video when the girl was talking about her grandmother's reaction to her becoming natural because it seems so familiar. :ohwell:

I loved this video!!! Thanks for sharing :yep:

I saw this video on KCcurly blog and was also :nono: at her grandmother who said what she said to her. And you know she meant it b/c her grandmother was a quiet person who didn't say much but she had to open her mouth for that one.

But I've gotten the same nasty comments from my own family when I was debating going natural so...

It's very telling about some folks. Go tell someone that you plan to BC and go natural and see what they say. May change yall's relationship with that person. They will downright insult you.

MizzBrown it is quite amazing to see how people react to going natural. Some of the nicest people you ever met in your life will say some of the cruelest things

I also loved this video. Thanks for sharing. To me, it just shows what a conditioned society we live in - to only think that a certain hair type (usually straight) is pretty and acceptable. I reject that notion and I love my natural hair and the diversity that comes with it. I'm glad the girl in the video was brave enough to step out on her own and do what she felt was true for her.

I loved the ending. I wish i could get a perfectly round fro like that. And yes some of the nicest people can say the meanest things even if it's in an offhanded type of way.

The Kathleen Cleaver interview is awesome, I've seen it popping up a lot of places lately. I do wish that people would stop building up natural hair by putting down relaxed hair though.

Yeah this needs to stop. It's gettin' out of hand.

It's a huge issue with overcompensation and projection, IMO. I understand that it's true for SOME people, but I don't appreciate it when people speak for everyone and turn natural hair as a whole into a, "I was blind but now I see" moment. Like, why is a dude even writing stuff about it? I watched this last night so I can't really remember...but didn't he say something along the lines of calling black women with relaxed hair "lost"? :nono:
