I've had these little beady beads near my nape that have never grown longer longer than 1/2 an inch. Today I finally decided to shave them off. Looks so much better. Don't know why it took me so long to do that.

No,
I hate when a small group of hairs, at my nape, rolls up into a ball and I have to work it loose before it becomes a knot but I wouldn't want to shave it.

That's just your 4b baby hairs.

Nope. 2 high maintenance. I did this once a long time ago, and I hated how it looked as it grew out.

no i leave my edges alone.i have been advised too because my nape is so jagged but i dont want to bother maintaining it.

No, I don't like how it looks edged up. :nono: I like my baby hair on back of my neck. I told my hair stylist never to edge me up again. She once did it without asking me first.:angry2: I think my hair looks like a wig or weave when its edged up.:ohwell:

Nope. The shorter hairs I started braiding horizontally (even when they were 1/2 and inch) and making sure they're really wet first (from conditioner). That area is now btw armpit and bsl when the rest is below full mbl. Now if you're talking net hairs that's another thing. But if you're talking broken edges that can be resolved. It's just from hair rubbing on clothes, etc. AND needs extra attention. I keep that part braided up most of the time versus the rest.

Nope. But I'm interested in seeing who does. Can someone post a before and after pic of what it looks like?

Nope. I won't front like I've never done it before, but I won't do it again. It looked far worse growing out than it did before I shaved it off.

Co signing with the ladies who tried it, hated it and would never do it again. I've grown to love my "4b baby hairs" and I can't keep my hands off of them! I just focus on moisturizing back there. It matches the rest of my hair better now that I'm natural anyway, so it's not that much of a contrast as it was when I relaxed. Besides, it itched like crazy when it was growing back.

The only time my hair was edged up was when I did my BC. After that, I do not mess wit' 'em.

Nope! I use to but I have been babying my edges and my nape is about the same length as the rest of my hair.

Absolutely not. I had the back of my hair edged up once and it looked terrible. I like my natural hairline.

I didn't even realize women did this :look:

Only time I lined up was when I had my Halle cut, and had to keep the back in a crispy taper  As a natural, I love my baby hurs....

I edge my hair in the back and also shave off my Elvis like side burns. I think it makes my hair line look nicer and neater.

YMMV

Nope, in fact I didn't know what you ment by the title until I read your post. Infact I think it looks silly when guys do it... it reminds me of that black Ken doll.

I didn't realize this was done either. No, never thought of doing it. As someone else said, that area may benefit from a little more attention.

Ive never edged my hair, but in high school I used to shave my side burns even though they arent all that lomg. It was theeeeee thing to do so I did it hehe

I wonder if I am misunderstanding the phrase "edge up". I meant the little beady beads at the back "the 4b baby hairs." Not the nape.

Nope. 2 high maintenance. I did this once a long time ago, and I hated how it looked as it grew out.
Didn't think about that. Oops/

This is what I'm talking about. Net hairs=baby hairs?

That's exactly why I shaved them off I was always playing with them and snapping them off. :look: Probably why they didn't grow so long in the first place. :ohwell:

Besides, it itched like crazy when it was growing back.
This!!! It has been itching. Uh-oh.

i don't mind doing it and i have done it, but not something that i wanna pay for. i used to get linings when i had a fade though.

I only did that when I was sporting a short style cut. Now? No. :nono:

I do, now and again, Cos when I'm wearing a bun I want the back to look neat as well, but I don't know what to do with it now.

I prefer the natural female line in the back. Depending on how the stylist does it, it can sometimes look like a guys line in the back and you know it when you see it. I think the natural line keeps the sleek look of a female neck. AA

I just recently started getting edge ups. My ex does them for free. He used to make fun of my edges and so one day I let him line me up in the back and it did look a LOT better when I did my updos and ponytails.

Someone asked for before and after pictures but I only have a before, unfortunately. I still think you can see how much I had my ex cut off. Hope it's not too big. :(

No I do not. When my kitchen looks messy, it just means it hasn't been groomed. Unless you have silky hair, hair doesn't just fall into place and look all dandy if it's not groomed. So what I do is just brush mine. It doesn't bother me that it isn't long, and it doesn't bother me that it doesn't lie flat like say types 2 and 3 hair does. It bothers me though if it looks like beady beads--just like hair that looks like that bothers me--so I "comb" to fix that problem.

An example of what my kitchen looks like when I ignore it:

And with a little brushing, voilà!

My hairline ungroomed looks like this (bottom left)--BTW it could be worse if I NEVER brushed it but it's a habit for me that after I create a style I finish it off by brushing the edges so I seldom walk around with it looking like this:

Same hairline after brushing and baggying (a scarf would work too) for the night. I never use gel because I don't care for it and I get OK results w/o it. But if you like gel, I think brushing and applying it then tying a scarf would help.

If I used to edge my nape, I'd be that one person who would get big, ugly, pus-seeping ingrown-hair bumps that wave at people when I wear my hair up probably reeking something awful. :barf: Plus I sorta think nature did a good job and would think it'd look weird, like a lacefront wig does with that straight unnatural-lookin' line. :giggle: Even a widow peak nape looks better to me than a straight line that is artificially created. But that's just ME. Like there's no reason for this dude to be doing this :whyme:

Yes, my nape is not cute otherwise. I just clean it up a bit. Some people don't need it and I admire those ladies, but I'm not one of them.
