My hair is much easier to detangle now than it was when I initially transitioned. Easier to detangle and has more curls and waves. For you ladies who have transitioned or BC'd have you experienced this?

When this happened to me (talking about my newly natural do, fresh off the big chop block), I immediately attributed it to my abuse of my transitioned hair. I didn't think it was some force that I could not control. I knew before I joined hair boards I was using heat too much, I colored my hair etc etc....

My crunchy hair was because of what I did to my hair...not scab hair. Some people do believe in scab hair, but I bet a lot of those people were just like me and didn't know what the heck they were doing (trying to match their nappy new growth to their relaxed hair) and that is why their new natural hair is so jacked up after they bc....

I say yes. Even though I had shaved my head, the hair where I used to burn myself with relaxer like every single time was less defined and drier...it seems to have gotten better though.

That's what I don't understand. I never used heat in the beginning...well I don't used heat now. But I did use heat prior to quitting relaxers for good.

I didn't either. My hair was totally natural (didn't transition) and I shaved it, but in those parts the hair started growing out differently, and needed gel to be defined while the rest of my hair didn't. However, it's the same texture as the rest of my hair now. :perplexed

It hasn't happened to me, but I'm sure it has for someone. Maybe burns have something to do with it? I've only been significantly burned once... (In the hands of a stylist of all places, go figure).

I'm 19 months into my transition and have slowly cut off my relaxed ends. I now have a mere inch or so left of relaxed ends (will be going to a salon for the final cut)

I see the natural hair that is attached to the relaxed ends is crunchy and hard with no definition, the rest of my natural hair is silky and has a defined curl. This crunchy hair could be scab hair and will need to be cut off along with the relaxed ends.

I had a bald patch from where I used always start applying my relaxer. Anyway, months after I stop relaxing the hair that finally came back was dry crunchy wouldn't straighten wouldn't hold a curl and just generally felt different from the rest of my hair. Think brillo pad :perplexed. There is definitely something to this because so many of us have experienced it. It eventually grew down to my ends and was cut off though. I don't think its heat related, but severe damage from overprocessed relaxing most likely. My case was so bad the new hair that grew in was still damaged.

Scab hair – Hair that is directly underneath the scalp that has been affected by the hash chemicals(i.e. relaxers, texturizers). Even though the hair is new growth it isn’t “trained” to behave in it’s natural state. The hair can be straight-wiry, very dry, hard, and brittle. It usually takes somewhere around 6 months to a year to completely grow it out. – Derived from Motowngirl.com

It is real, and after 15 months natural I still have about 1-1.5" of it on my ends. I never used heat during my transition either.
