Hopefully this will be a fun thread for us to discuss which detangler works best for you. I've tried many types of detangling combs/brushes and I personally like the Ouidad Double Detangler. Which one do you like? Why?

For me, its a combo of Hercules Sagemann combs and the Tangle Teezer. The Hercules Sagemann hard rubber combs are a wonder, they really help make detangling a breeze, and the tangle teezer is a much better alternative to the denman for getting the shed hair out and smoothing. I have the Hercules Sagemann Magic Star Jumbo Rake and #1975 Comb. Love these!!!

For the past 1.5 months, I've been detangling with seamless combs, specifically the Mason Pearson kind (shoutout to empressri for her YT reviews). I detangle first with the wide tooth, then the detangling comb to remove shed hairs.

After deep conditioning, I detangle section by section and twist my hair. Then I rinse out the conditioner while the twists are still in, which is great for me because it doesn't allow my hair to tangle back up on itself. After rinsing, I apply leave-in (or whatever product I choose) to each twisted section, one at a time, and style (usually re-twisting, braiding, or rollersetting).

During the warmer months when I was co-washing more often, I would detangle with the Ouidad Double Detangler, dividing my hair into 2 sections and combing. The Ouidad is a great comb. When it gets warmer in a couple of months, I will probably go back to co-washing more often, but I will probably go back and forth between the seamless Magic Star Jumbo Rake comb and the Ouidad.

I gently finger detangle my hair in the shower.

Then I use the Tangle Teezer after my hair has dried a little bit

I am a tangle teezer fan. I usually wear mini twists, and twists outs from mini twists so my hair is tightly curled when I get ready to detangle. Prior to the TT, I would prepoo, then finger combe and stretch my hair to get the twists out and then I would follow it with a wide tooth comb. It would take me at least an hour to detangle this way and I lost a lot of hair.

I tried the Denman and my hair thought it was supposed to be a hair accessory and just kept it. I modified it and I can only use it after I have finger detangled, and then used the wide tooth comb, followed by a smaller comb.

I've never tried the Ouidad.

I am back to shampoo my hair in the sink without the braids - it was taking too long. But I really don't have to detangle my hair after I shampoo. Not sure if that is due to the products or the tangle teezer. But loving only having to detangle before shampooing.

...on my way to google Mason Pearson...

ETA: What??????????? $80-150 ohh uh-uh :nono::perplexed That brush better do my hair for me.

The combs are better priced!

My shower comb when wet/combo of fingers & shower comb when dry...
Tangle Teezer works well too!

Happy Hair Growing!

What happened to just a wide tooth comb :perplexed
I use that and Mane & Tale detangler is really good, melts tangles

I detangle with a paddle brush on oil drenched hair before I shampoo. I can't remember which member I jacked this technique from but it works well for me. I very rarely detangle wet hair.

Sent from my iPhone using LHCF

I use my fingers/ a shower comb when I co-wash and a wide tooth followed by my denam after deep conditioning before I twist my hair to make sure the ends aren't all poofy.

Dang it looks like im gonna have to get me a tangle teezer lol i just use my shower comb followed by my denman brush but seems like lhcf got me wanting to buy something else to try nd im not even a pj

I haven't combed combed my hair since I got my BC last month. I typically just finger comb, make sure I carefully remove the knots or almost knots weekly and I'm good to go.

I detangle twice a week, once with my fingers only, and once with my fingers followed by the TTto get the shed hairs out. Both in the shower under running water. I choose this method because neither "tool" is uncomfortable. I'm very tenderheaded and all other detanglers I've used were effective but they hurt like hell.

I use my fingers. If I have an instance where I MUST comb it, I have a fantastic detangling comb I bought from my local BSS for $.99. I noticed that most people try to hold their hold combs at a 90 degree angle. I've noticed that it works much better at a 45 degree angle. #dontjudgeme

I use my goody add shine paddle brush in the shower after i have finger detangled before getting my hair wet.

Just tried something new 2day that I will continue, first I pre-pooed then I finger combed my hair, got n the shower shampooed in braids. I then took the braids apart and added oil, let it sit 4 a min then added conditioner on top, and rinsed out. When I was applying my deep conditioner my hair felt detangled but ill go back over it with the TT.

Before the Tangle Teezer, my Ouidad Double Detangler was my savior. I also have my Denman on hand as well (but I don't like to detangle with it because I always manage to pull hair out).

While my Ouidad was great, for detangling it was still a little time consuming. My hair seems to like the TT better. When I use it I'm able to detangle in less time (which is great for an impatient person like me).:yep:

I detangle dry on oiled hair

1. seamless combs-got me successfully through my transition thus far
2. Ouidad double detangler- on natural parts
3.tangle teezer- Last wash I used this and it gave me the same results as seamless combs, basically. I also liked this on conditioner soaked wet hair-good for removing shed hair too.
4 honorable mention- handled shampoo brushes left over from the last time I was natural- will still be using these
