I need a shot of protein...can I use an egg?

It's about 4 inches of snow here in Mississippi!

I LOVE egg protein treatments. I do this all the time as a weekly pre-poo. Just add about 1 tblsp of cholesterol, 1 tsp of honey, 1 tsp of EVOO, and a lil bit of castor oil and it leaves my hair soft and strong! I usually leave on for about 45 min with no heat 'cause I don't want my hair to be super hard with cooked egg particles in it. :/ But now I leave on for longer than 45 minutes--no more than 2 hours at least.

ETA: Someone wanted to know if you could use on wet or dry hair. Either, but usually use on dry hair.

Im in SC. We totally missed the snow but we did get ice/sleet. BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

*sideeye at myself because I keep asking questions that nobody is answering :( *

But one more question: I have a relaxer burn, which is why I want to do the protein treatment--I'm afraid my hair got overprocessed--but, with the sores and all (sorry if that's TMI), do yall think that's dangerous? I've been sitting here all hyped to do this but now I'm sitting here thinking about sore head + raw, salmonell-y egg = possible infection. Would yall do it? Is that a dumb question?:look:

Hellooo?

Wow, I am sorry to hear about your relaxer burn. How long did you leave it in for? I doubt you'd get salmonella infection, since there is slim chance that your egg is infected. But, I'm not encouraging you to do that as I don't wanna be held responsible for any mishaps.
Have you considered doing mayo instead of an egg?
And really you've had a burn let your hair rest a bit. That's gonna need some serious healing, so maybe you should hold off on the manipulation and friction a deep treatment will result in. I am really sorry to hear about that burn and I hope it heals soon.

I have a video on protein treatments on my YT.. I'm in my phone atm so can't give you the direct link but the link to my YT should be in my siggy

Here is egg recipe with less protein, more moisture. Increase the amount of honey and olive oil if your hair is past shoulder length. I apply to damp hair. HTH

2 spoons of honey
2 spoons of olive oil
2 eggs

Do you have aloe vera juice/gel to apply to the burns? Be careful handling your hair until the scab heals and falls off. Tea with lots of milk is also good, you soak a washcloth in the milky tea and apply to burned areas. Antioxidants in the tea and the milk is soothing.

Hmmm, that's such good advice.. I completely forgot about aloe vera! I used to use that! ahaha. But thanks for the recipe I have used honey mixed in with olive oil to moisturize my hair, and my hair would be nice and banging! So adding eggs along with that combination sounds perfect :)

Sorry for not answering. I wasn't ignoring your post, I just thought someone would answer. I'm not relaxed anymore so I wasn't sure about answering. I'm pretty sure that I get side eyes. It's one of the downsides of the unpopular club.

I have another question: can you do the egg mixture on dry hair or do you need to wash first?

You can do either or. I liked it best on my dry hair although I was co-washing every 3 days at the time.

So, do you follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner to balance it or is that counterproductive?

Also, do you take the egg mixture all the way down to your ends? I'm always afraid to get anything that's not straight moisturizing conditioner or coconut oil on my ends. lol

Yes and yes. :yep: I used it on the whole length of my hair and then conditioned with a moisturizing conditioner. Surprisingly the egg didn't leave my hair hard and/or crunchy.

I don't really know how to answer this one. I don't think you'd have a problem but it's better to be safe than sorry. You don't want to irritate your scalp more than it already is. I love Nexxus Emergencee :lick: too. You might be able to use a bit of Mane & Tail as either a leave in or a co-wash until your scalp gets back on track. I probably wouldn't do it because my scalp is very sensitive to some things. I'd wait.

All in all use your best judgment ya know? No one can really tell YOU what's best for your hair. You have to test things and keep a watchful eye. :yep:

I use egg all the time as my protein treatments. Whenever I feel like I need a shot of protein I crack an egg, add two tablespoons of EVOO and apply it to my hair. Then I let it sit for 20-45 minutes or so (no heat). Then I rinse it out and shampoo and then make sure to deep condition. I also filmed a YT video about it

 beer?
Hmmm I thought beer was mostly carbs? They have proteins too? Had no idea. Well, if i had some beer in the house I would have tried this out. But I'm not a drinker :nono:

:sekret: I don't drink beer so when some one leaves beer in the fridge it becomes a hair product. The best rinse I used was flat beer (4 beers poured in a jug), pour over hair, then rinsed under the shower until smell was gone. My twistout was super thick, soft, shiny and bouncing :lick:

I used to do 1 c REAL mayo (the fake ones have vinegar as the 1st ingredient as opposed to oil); 1 egg; 2 Tbsp EVOO.

Shampoo once (to get off surface dirt if I felt my hair was really dirty)
Apply Mayo/Egg
cover with plastic and let sit for 30-60 mins (until I got sick of the dripping)
Shampoo and Condish as normal.

I did this as a natural when I was wearing my hair straight.

Well I didnt measure anything but I put my vanilla yogurt, 2 eggs, and GV mayo in a bowl and stirred it up. It wasnt runny, more like pasty, like a relaxer. I put it on dry hair and put it on thick. Im sittign under the dryer and will be under here for about 10 more min.

How did it turn out?

I could actually FEEL the difference! My hair felt stronger. :yep:

I wash my hair in plaits and when I rinsed it out in the shower I could feel that the braids felt stronger. My hair had been feeling a little weak and off and this REALLY helped!

I used Aphogee Balancing Cond afterwards to counteract all the protein and I love it.

Im sitting under the dryer now in my paper bags but thats for another thread. :)

Wow! I'm going to try it this week. I was really resistant to purchasing Joico( it upset me that they were too greedy to not have a Christmas sale), so it' sbeen a month since I've had a protein treatment.
I'll give me report soon.

Thanks so much, yall! I was literally just about to crack the eggs--even though my head is still sore and fragile; um....typing that sounds kinda crazy but I guess I thought that would soothe it-- but then I came back and checked here first. I'm gonna try the egg treatment when the sores heal.

First of all, your hair is giving me EVERYTHING! A stylist applied the relaxer and it started burning pretty quickly after she applied it. I had to make her wash it out early! I'm basically a DIYer except for relaxers, and I haven't had a burn in years, but now I'm thinking I need to either learn how to do it myself or transition or something because this right here is completely unnecessary.

I think eggs are one of the best protein treatments you can use. I usually do a egg protein every two weeks but I skipped a week since I ate all the eggs in the fridge :perplexed:

Lol, thankyou :)
wow, were you scratching? did she apply a base? And what relaxer did she use? Maybe you should stretch longer until that are heals ... but, if you stretch long enough and decide that you wanna go natural, that's fine too. Wow, it sounds like you need to start learning the relaxer routine, which isn't that hard... I think... but each time I do it, I have a little anxiety attack lmao. Aside from that, it's fairly easy.

Please give us an update on the paper bags. I'm dying to know how your curls turned out.

I may go home and do this tonight as my toddler schedule permits. I may just put the mixture in my hair and let it sit until he falls asleep then I can wash and condition afterwards.
