Is 1-2 weeks necessary?

Hello ladies,

I know this may be a silly question, but is giving your hair a break between weaves necessary? It just seems that I've observed on this board that some ladies do not allot a 1 or 2 week period of rest for their hair. So I was hoping this could be clarified.

Thank ya!

I say yes, and those who dont r the ones whose hair gets thinner and thinner as it grows

I so agree. This is coming from someone (me) who wore weaves back to back because I was of the mentality that you didn't need those breaks :nono:. For about the first 8 months or so, my hair seemed to be doing just fine. However, after wearing weaves back to back little over a year, I came to the shocking realisation that my hair did indeed suffer, especially the most fragile part (my front edges). I also experienced so thinning. I have since decided to give the weaves an indefinite break and I am already seeing progress.

To the OP, please do no subject yourself to this. I am lucky that my hair is recovering very quickly and that whatever damage was done is reversible. My hair is rapidly thickening up and my edges are growing back. If I could do it over however, I wouldn't have even put myself through it. I may in the future go back to weaves, but it will certainly be a different routine.

I have been doing C&G for the past year and a half and think the break is good for your hair and for your "hands". LOL I notice towards the end of an install especially if I have been on lhcf and YouTube I'm itching to get my hands in my hair. Not because my hair isn't okay but because I want to "play" wig my hair. The breaks give me time to "play", get tired of it and be too happy to put it in the next set.

Yes you need the break to let your scalp rest AND get your hair in shape IE moisture/protein balance. It usually takes a good 2 weeks to get your hair in optimal condition for a new set of braids or a new weave.

my hair suffered a bit this year from back to back installs. Now that I wait that 2 weeks I have seen vast improvement in my hair.

i think so...i have friends who literally never let their own hair see the light of day...they go to the salon and get their hair taken down, washed, conditioned, and put right back in the same day, and their hair really suffers...especially the ones who dont take care of their hair while the weave is in

I use to do back to back installs and my hair didn't really suffer but I prefer waiting 2 or more weeks to let my hair breathe and to prepare for the next install.

Yes you do need to give your hair a break. I used to wear braids nonstop for a couple of years and my edges really suffered.
