IME, the extreme naturals are usually the ones that had the most negative views regarding their real hair/natural texture before becoming natural.

My lil' cousin on the PR side of the family with bone straight hair and who thinks she is Nicki Minaj (I didn't try to find out why) AND who has negative views about kinky/curly/nappy whatever you want to call it hair textures is really going to love her now.Sad.
 
@ Nicki Minaj - I don't take her, or most other rappers, seriously.

@ NP.com - Longhaircareforum is headed the same way. The use of the phrase "creamy crack" is constant on this site, naturals who use heat had to start their own support thread, and people act like protective styling is the holy grail.

It's going to take a lot more than a plastic barbie doll to piss me of. As much as they go off in rap songs with b*tches and h*es and ALL of that crap...I'd get up in arms about that sooner than some chick with a weave. So please. Folks do things for controversy to make their albums sell, just like ugly ole Raheem Devaughn with his new tasteless video.

So...I choose not to support said folks.

im scared over there though. i never posted, never lurked...the day i signed up was the 1st and last day i went to that site. and when u had to get approved through FB to become a member i changed my default to a pic w/ a fro cuz i aint think they was gonna approve my loose curlies :look:

it aint np...it's the folks there, esp some new ones. i been on there and was like wow. but they've been just as out of pocket on here if not more sometimes too so it is what it is.

I'm on NP, NC, and other sites. There will always be extremes. That's what so great about the internet. Everyone has the option of starting their own site, if they want it to have a different vibe. I don't agree with any type of extremism. I don't care what you do or how you decide to live your life (as long as it doesn't involve hurting anyone else).
 
I left africanexport alone after the "b bomb" hope this thread goes well *snickers @ the words healthy and debate being in the same sentence* lol most people end up with high heart rates after debates lol.

its sucks that she has to insult other women by calling them hoes and nappy just to sell records and feel validated.
I dont like or dislike her but was curious enough to consider buying her album to see what the fuss was all about; but now i'm likely to get a pirate version...
 
I haven't seen it on NC; but, I've seen it on NP big time. I don't feel comfortable over there because of the texture discrimination as well. God forbid you mention having 3c/4a hair.

I honestly don't think Nicki Minaj fans even cared about those lines. She says so much wild stuff that trust--the lines about nappy headed/perminator isn't the line the kids are rapping too at schools. I think it is the people on twitter,etc..making a big deal out of it...No one would have paid attention to those lines at all until the Natural Hair Army got on social media to start a "war" with Nicki Minaj like she even cares. She says so many offensive things---hair is small fries compared to what she raps about.
Onto the topic of extremism--I'm so over it...been over it. We are not a cult. We are humans and I don't feel we should put ourselves in groups to separate ourselves and make another group feel bad about their decisions. I personally only care about my hair, i could care less about what the next girl does to her hair...
 
I've been a lurking member for a while and not sure I've posted. I usually search for flat ironing and roller setting advice. I've been natural for since I was 26, so 10 years. Don't see myself putting a perm on my hair ever, but I have no prob with straightening via heat. Usually do it once a year, in the winter. I actually logged on tonight to look for some tips and ran across this thread.

That being said, I've been a member of np.com since it started. And I think it serves a great purpose. We have a huge problem with the texture of our hair, in general. Why else would the majority of black women have relaxers and or weaves? why else would people be slapping a scalp burning chemical on a 7 year olds head? When I was relaxing my hair, it was just routine. I didn't "hate" my hair, it was just something I was supposed to do. And that aint good.

So np.com, in order to get black women to be comfortable with themselves, there is a strict no heat/relaxer talk. It's hardcore hair rehab. You don't bring white wine spritzer to a AA meeting and you don't talk about the best flat iron on np.com. So I don't talk about it when I'm there. and yes, the changing on the words is wild, but shoot every time I put heat on my hair I am in danger of jacking my stuff up. (Flaming tool) And some women would forgo paying their bills rather than go without a touch up (The creamy crack)

yes a few members say some outlandish stuff (as in any message board) but as a whole, np.com is not like that.

I'm only insulted by Nikki M's utter wackness.

Np.com accepts people who are transitioning so I really don't think they are going to not accept someone because they have a looser texture...
 
I was a lurker there several years ago. I remember a debate about wearing "out" styles. Apparently, *to some*you are not embracing your natural texture if you wear "out" styles. Too much for me.

I agree. Nappturality is only "hardcore" like that because it is a niche site. It is specifically targeted to women with the nappiest of the nappy hair whose hair texture is the most vilified. Trenell has a looser curl pattern and so does Empress and they are welcomed with open arms! The reason why heat is not discussed is because heat is damaging (to some extent, especially if you don't know what you are doing) as Trenell pointed out, and the general message of the site is to love your hair the way it is.

I can understand, if Nappturality is not for everyone though, different strokes for different folks. But please don't label everyone (like me) as wonky. I don't bite and I post there all the time :grin:. I like this site for what it offers and I like Np for what it offers. There is room for everyone. :yep:

I remember that too! Shoot, I was in that thread :nono: my head too. :lachen:Like really? I need to wear my hair in a shrunken matted fro to prove I love my hair? Okay. :yawn:

But the beef is with the people who believe that though not the whole site :yep:. Everyone doesn't share that belief on there. Heck my current avatar on here is of a twistout!
