I think it looks like that because whoever videotaped it was taping the clip in front of the TV set instead of a direct video from the broadcast.

I agree, I was thinking the same thing! I was a kid in the late 80s/90s and Sesame Street was fancy lol! You really thought it was a tangible place lol! The song was cute though!
