Her words were wonderful and touching, but I was enthralled by her hair. How DOES she do it? It had a lot of movement in the wind. Now I think I could get the movement, but I don't know that once it moved it would go back to where I wanted it to.

What is the secret to hair that moves AND returns to it's original shape? I know she's got the best hair care money can buy, but what do you think she does?

any pics??? I haven't seen the hairstyle you're referring to, but I assume she does it with a relaxer, a flat iron, and a professional stylist. It's also probably cut in a way that allows more body & movement.

And for hair to swing back to place after the wind blows it one way, the strands need to have a good amount of mass and hence weight. Fine strands tend to strike the pose the wind sends them into. :giggle:

I noticed that as well! It was beautiful but like Nonie says, us fine haired ladies can't exactly do that.

^^ I definitely agree with the above. My hair had to be extra fresh for it to go back to place after the wind hit it. And usually, the day after it got hit by the wind, it would never act right.

SN: I thought I read somewhere that First Lady was natural...???

Thanks for the link. The speech is worth watching without the hair... Yeah Nonie, my hair would not go back into place like that. No product just equals even more fly away for me.

There's been some discussion about that because of the choice of words used during an interview once about her hair. But I think some people said that she confirmed that she is relaxed. I'm not sure though.

that looks like a wig to me that whole top section looks like the wig was just plonked down on her head

not true -- i have achieved a massive amount of swang with both relaxed and natural hair (especially right after a dominican blowout), and i have some of the finest strands evaaaah. it's all in the health and moisture levels of your hair.

Yes but your hair looks dense like mine. My natural hair after a press has "swang" too but though it's fine, it's really dense. I have a ton of fine hairs. So maybe nonie is on to something in the "weight" of the hair. Maybe collective weight? Who knows? Or maybe weight with length? For instance i'm a natural mbl. I'm thinking thick haired ladies have more swing, but thin have it with length (as hair begins to have more weight) or those with dense strands...
???? Just throwing stuff out there.

i wish my hair were as dense as yours (judging from your avi). my ponytails look so anorexic!! i've had "swang" since i was SL....heck i think when i was NL and getting DBs they swang too. i think it's just the technique and, of course, the moisture levels of your hair (not necessarily products).

I agree w/lilsparkle825, as my hair is neither dense nor thick and I've had swang like that many times after going to the salon.

I have fine strands and its fairly easy for me to get a lot of swang too (relaxed/natural) with a good quality salon blow out. And on top of that I'm 4b/a and my hair is short. Granted, its only gonna be super swingy for that first day, maybe two if im very lucky.

I'm not sure about my density, I'd say I'm maybe medium density.

Yeah lol! I've stared at scissors longingly over that issue "dense hair"...but then I snap out of it and remind myself I want to get to waist length (I had a crazy cutting session last year and am back to mbl after chopping out layers). It's definitely dense. As for the moisture level, you could be on to something there to, as I'm a conditioning moisture freak (I use moisturizing conditioners far more than protein...and only light protein as my hair likes that better). Maybe it is the moisture....

i agree that it's the moisture. technique is also important. i have some thin hair and i don't know if it's dense-i doubt it though- but i have swang when i straighten my hair at the salon.

her hair looked great

fine hair need weight and structure from protein AND moisture in balance. I'm still figuring it out but the more in balance the more swing
