Testing out a new Relaxer, how to?

Do any of you ladies have suggestions on how to properly test a new relaxer? I normally use Motions (it's finished) so I bought Mizani (both are lye). I was very excited but have read a few set backs caused by relaxers and my hair journey (43 days in) has been going very well and I DO NOT WANT a set back of my own doing - I don't think I'd be able to handle it:(

How exactly do I test the relaxer? On what part of my head to I try it out? How long before I actually do the full head? Do I leave it on for the full time and if so then when I actually do my full head am I suppose to ignore that spot?

I usually test a new relaxer out on a few shed hairs with noticable new growth. I wouldn't test a new relaxer out on my actual head of hair. So I gather some shed hairs (from brush, comb, etc) and apply the relaxer to the new growth and smooth it with my fingers. This way, I can also time how long it takes to get to the desired level of straightness.

Hope this helped some :)

Thank YOU!! It never occured to me to do that - so glad I asked!
