But work for you anyway :look:? I came across a thread in which a youtube video was posted, in which this woman was slathering a whole bunch of products on her scalp. The application of the products to the scalp was excessive but the amount of products she used was not...or at least to me . It's nothing for me to mix 3 or 4 different conditioners together to DC my hair (more if I'm trying to use up products) and the minimal amount of leave-in I apply is 3. I posted the following for my wig reggie:

Well perhaps the reason she loads her hair with product is because her hair is under weaves/wig for an extended period of time without being moisturized. Although I don't apply products to my scalp, when I wear wigs, I load my hair with Braid Spray, a heavy moisturizer (curl activator gel or cantu), shea butter, and petroleum jelly (seals my ends). That way I don't have to manipulate or moisturize my hair but once a week :yep:.

And I've come to the conclusion that my hair LOVES Vaseline. It even revives my pressed hair and leaves it very soft and manageable. When I pressed my hair last week, it was 2 inches longer than the pic posted in my siggy (I trimmed 1 inch). Apparently this regimen really works to help me retain length. Are there things that you do that are NOT LHCF approved but still help you retain length and keeps your hair healthy such a frequent heat or relaxer use, contraband products, etc?

I'm a newbie but I notice that these kind of topics never last. It always ends in a debate about why another member should or should not be practicing certain hair regimens. With that - respectfully - said, OP....

:peek:

I don't know what good it does me, except it makes me happy and feel clean: I don't use any moisturizer/leave-in when in braids or twists. It's over a year since I did.

I love me some regular hair grease for flatironing. I use it when I know I'm going to be in a humid environment. Keeps the frizzies in check. :yep:

I do not moisturize my hair daily. I've noticed that my hair does better when I get most my moisture from DC.

I blow-dry and flatiron my hair every week.

I use some type of protein every week.

I'm APL right now, and I'm sure that I could be BSL if I didn't do these things but...ah well...my hair is healthy, always soft, has that swang, and it looks good so I'm happy.

I know, but that was the purpose of the thread. So that people with "alternative" hair lifestyles can come together .

I use grease on my hair and scalp in the winter...I LOVE ampro brown gel. It's a life saver. I only M&S twice a week and my hair loves me for it.

Aaaand I sleep with a cotton bandanna EVERY night!

ETA: Don't believe in DCing so I dont do it...

I seriously think people are sleeping on the hair grease :yep:. Especially when it comes to sealing your ends.

I couldn't agree more. Whenever I stop hating products on my hair, THIS will be one thing I will do: use Vaseline to seal my ends.

I don't wash my hair for weeks at a time :look:

I also am not totally opposed to using grease on the length of my hair; however, i will not use it on my scalp.

Well if the LHCF police came around I know for sure I would get arrested.

My crime is i don't wrap my hair at night.... Ever.

Yes that's right I dont have a scarf around my head before bed, I dont have a satin pillow, i don't do anything besides crawl into bed. Sometimes I will put it up in a puff before sleeping, but often times I will just sleep on my Wash and Go.

when I say i am lazy about my hair... i mean i am lazy about my hair.

I have covered my hair a few times when I have attempted and FAILED twist outs or bantu knot outs.

My hair has consistently grown with no problems, I rarely face breakage, and I figure If it aint broke don't fix it.

You are lucky, UrbainChic. Using a cap or a satin pillow is the number one difference between my hair being normal or being like straw. Even before I knew anything about healthy hair practices, when I employed a satin pillow, I could see a tremendous difference in my hair. It never became like straw. Of course, back then I was inconsistent.

I know nothing's broke on you. But I wonder what might happen with your hair if you DID use a satin pillow?

My unapproved of action is shampooing/conditioning every other day or so. I can't hang with co-washing. I think that the products I use need to be washed out!

I don't apply moisturizer or leave-ins to my hair and I blowdry after every wash. Just shampoo and condition and proceed to blowdry with nothing applied, not even heat protectant. It works for me but I have to rely on conditioners a lot to make sure my hair isn't dry.

EDIT: I also pull on my split ends, all the scissors in the house are dull and I ended up using my hair scissors for other things so I can't use that on my hair. I haven't seen anything bad happening yet but that's because I don't do it often. Shame on me.

I use sulfate shampoos and silicones. I don't moisturize and seal...ever. Couldn't even tell you how to do it.

Vaseline! Nonie, the old me (pre-hair journey) recommends ultra sheen (green!)

I opt for Vaseline because I don't know if I can deal with the "perfume" they add to good ol' grease. After years of having my hair smelling "normal" I 'o'know if I can get with that "scent". I got the Vaseline idea from Wanakee, whose Constant Care for Ends I still own a decade later, and I don't remember that strong perfume of good ol' grease. I am a sucker for "originals" so when I discovered she was no longer selling products but had passed that on to someone else, CC4E became sacred and stored away like a precious gem. And then when I saw my idol Adrienne0914 used Vaseline, I knew I could stop fretting about running out of the original CC4E.

i dont detangle from tip to root and i dont get any breakage.
when my hairs in micros or twists i dont tie it at night, the weave can protect it for me
im going to start trying sealing my ends with vasaline because my ends are DRY. I never do a protein treatment (i got protein in my gel, thats good enough)

I'm not afraid to use grease for flatironing. I plan to test it out on my ends this winter.

I clarify with almost every wash.

I wear Celie braids in public and I don't give a **** ... now run and tell dat :lachen:

*Adds Cocotaw to contacts*

I blow dry on HIGH Heat
I use a shampoo with mild sulfates
I use loreal products despite the fact they discriminated against colored folks (they work for my hair and aren't as expensive as my other products)
I don't always comb from tip to root
I use miss jessie's products because they are bad *** on my hair when it comes to moisture and twist outs!:yep:

Yes...
I <<gasp>> go to the salon... EEEKKKK!
And they have the flat irons turned up to the hottest temperature... :lachen: :lachen:

And get this... lol.. I LURVE it! Not having to clean hair out of my bathroom and shower.. is a pleasure!!!

I use mineral oil on my scalp. My scalp loves it. My skin and scalp are really sensitive and mineral oil based products tend to work best. I've tried olive, coconut, castor etc... and always ended up breaking out, but now w/mineral oil.
