I am just wondering if I am the only one who uses New Era Acid Relaxer on LHCF. So What type of relaxer do you use.

Acid is just the opposite of Alkaline and Both straighten hair. just acid relaxers don't get as straight. PH scale. Water is a 7.0 - 7.5. Acid is less than 7 and alkaline(lye, no lye, thio) are above a 7 and usually a 9-13 ph.

Acid relaxer have to use heat activated to straighten. If you just put the gel on it won't do anything, won't damage, won't burn, won't straighten it will just sit there until you activate it by heat. I usually sit under dryer 10 mins, then straighten/smooth my hair, then go under dryer again for 10 mins and repeat, until my curl pattern is looser. The straightening agent is Ammonium Bisulfate.

Acid relaxer?

That sounds STRONG!

...............and scary. :look: :nono:

I use Lye. Acid sounds like it'll straighten the hair clean off your head.:nono:

Motions Oil Relaxer System. I add extra oil and silk aminos and my hair comes out very nice.

^^^^ Adding oils to the relaxer mix? Sounds good.

Wave Nouveau and vigorol are Ammonium Thioglycolate relaxers and New Era is Ammonium Bisulfite relaxer. These are milder than lye or no lye and These can't be combined with lye or no lye ever.

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS ONE...... it's not a new product. It's been around for years.

The acid permanent method employed glycerol monothioglycolate and was ammonia-free. While it was slower, it was less aggressive to the hair. The reaction was endothermic, so it needed additional heat, which was supplied by a drier. The heat was necessary to increase the pH from 6.9 to 7.2.7

. The ammonium thioglycolate or glyceryl monothioglycolate in modern perms breaks down the bonds in the hair so that the hair can change its natural shape. The hydrogen peroxide in the neutralizer helps to rebuild these bonds and thus stops the perming action, letting your hair reform into a curled shape around your curlers.

Acid perms, because they use a more gentle formulation and process, tend to create looser waves.

  1. Candidates
  2. Those with strong, thick, and coarse hair are good candidates for alkaline perms. The potent formula works better on resistant hair types. Those with damaged hair, which is porous, will benefit more from the gentler acid perm or acid-balanced perm that processes faster than true acid waves.

Same here.

When I went to the dermatologist for my scalp issue, he recommended that I use the Wave Nouveau relaxer. :look: I never tried it though.

Wave Nouveau is milder. That is probably why he recommended it.

I use Hawaiian Silky mild and it's lithium hydroxide.
I beleive lithium is no lye. I will add it. Thanks

Yea it is old school. And it seems like I am the only one using it.

I use Revlon Realistic Lye in Regular strength, for 12-15 minutes to underprocess (texlax).

Phytospecific 1. That New Era sounds like it's much gentler than a lye or no-lye relaxer due to the pH being lower. I think the term "acid" just scares people, but this just seems to be more acidic than regular relaxers and not actually acid because it's still above neutral pH. Alkaline products can burn the hair off your scalp too, which all lye and no-lye relaxers are.

That is sooo true. A lye relaxer burned the hair off of my scalp at both temple( I don't think a base was put on first). It was as smooth as a baby's butt, I mean there was no hair left. It took 4 years to grow it back and it still isn't completely grown in. That is whay made me go natural and then to using New Era.

If I ever relax my daughters hair then it would be with a milder acid relaxer.

I use the ORS Olive Oil regular(no-lye) and i add about 3 tablespoons of olive oil.

Switched to lye about a year ago and havent looked back since, wished i would of made the switch earlier.

i've only used Mizani BB and Silk Elements with Shea Butter (brown jar) and i prefer the SE over the Mizani. For some reason the Mizani made my hair shed like none other :/
