I'm thinking about relaxing

Well, I agree Charz it really is up to you, but relaxing because you just want something different doesn't really sound like a good reason from someone on the outside looking in. You can do different things without chemically altering your hair....wigs, braids, straighten your hair more often, etc.

Good luck with whatever you choose though.

Give it at least a couple of weeks since you can't just go back to natural right after. Just make sure you won't regret it and have to do yet another transition down the line.

Or at least be sure that you won't mind another transition.

Otherwise... that's your choice! :)

Do you want to wear your hair straight to switch it up? If you just want something different, a relaxer is pretty permanent, so why not try getting your hair pressed/ironed or maybe wearing a straight wig instead? Maybe you should try those things before making your decision.

Would you be interested in getting a straight weave instead? Or a wig? Or tree braids? Or BKT?

I'm definitely not against relaxing, but if it's only out of wanting a new look, then maybe taking such a permanent step would not be the best thing.

I just did it, and Im glad, but what ever u decide enjoy it and its just hair at the end of the day

Ditto!

Have you thought about trying the BKT? It washes off in a few months and it will give you relaxer straight results.

i was once in your shoes a few months ago, then i relaxed and am sooooo glad i did, but i had many reasons for relaxing, you only gave us one reason why you want to. so um, i dont know. you need to think about this a lil more.

1. Flat iron it and wear it like that until wash day.

2. After you wash it, if you still want it straight then flat iron it again, until wash day.

3. After you wash it and you STILL want it straight, then flat iron it again, until wash day.

If after the 3rd time you are absolutely sure that your preference has changed and you desire straight hair all the time, then by all means go for it!

Or you can jump in feet first and relax, but just remember, it's irreversible and if you have a change of heart, you will either have to big chop or make the slooow transition, back to natural.

Ultimately, it's up to you! Either way, enjoy your hair! :yep:

What I like about this Board is it's versatility. We can ALL "DO YOU BOO" (so to speak:look:) and at the End of the Day, still have Healthy Hair Goals in mind.:yep:

That's what makes this Board such a Great Place, is that We can all be us: And still be Beautiful, Confident and Strong.:yep:

i don't know your reasons for going natural (i'm assuming you were relaxed at one point in time, i could be wrong). if you have accomplished your goals as a natural then i can see your desire to change. i don't think i'd relax again but i have thought that when i reach my goals as a natural (full MBL) i might consider a really nice color job, a BKT or just wearing my hair straight a lot more often.b/c of this i can see how you might feel this way about getting a relaxer if you've accomplished the goals (if you had some) you set when you went natural.

Thanks I really appreciate your help, however I had a very long talk with hubby and begged not to relax. He said he loved the fact the I wear my hair like it grows out my head. He also told me that he loves the feel of my hair against his skin. So I'm going to go to Aveda Beauty school and get it blow dried and flat ironed and see how I feel. Again thanks Ladies.

OMG!!! MJ I was just thinking about you the other day!!! Your like the friend in my head (Wendy Williams terminology). IF thats what you want to do we support you. I know you will make a sound decision and go from there hugs!!!

If you want to - you should. :yep:

I've been thinking about it alot, myself. But I'm too big of a chicken to actually do it. :look:

Besides, cutting off my BSL hair, and doing that loooonnnng arse transition would have been for naught - and I can't accept that. :nono: So I trudge on...

Be sure to post pics if you do it...

If you made this face ":perplexed:" you ain't ready.

Hopefully you find other alternatives or if you really are sure then be happy with your decision :)

Lately, I've been thinking of relaxing again.... ONLY because I saw a BAD style that I like. It's Halle Berry's cut in the September 2010 issue (p. 68). It's a short cut and will only lay right if my hair is relaxed... I'm 4a/b. When I was relaxed the main reason transitioned to natural was because I believed that the chemicals and constant heat usage were taking its toll on my years of relaxing. Year 2000 was the last year I saw shoulder length hair. After that, it started becoming so weak, and fragile that I had to keep it tapered or in a short bob.

Today, it is almost to my shoulders, (in the back). On one hand, my goal is to grow it as long as I can, but with the short cut, I don't have to really worry about growth retention or breakage should I relax. And if I want to grow it out, I'll just try to keep it healthy. I mean it was long and relaxed before year 2000.

I always said that if I used the same healthy care practices now that I did when I was relaxed (aside from the chemicals) I would probably have had beyond SL growth. I'm going to think on it for a few months.

I'm not asking anyone to decide for me... I have a few plans in mind but I would like to hear you all's thoughts - especially since some have been on both sides.

my hair again. What do you think?

What's your reason for wanting to relax again if you don't mind me asking?

Something different

OP, if you're thinking about relaxing just for a change, why all the hoopla when your friend asked you to relax your hair for her wedding? Your reaction made it seem like nothing in hell would make you do it.

For those who missed it, here goes:

My girlfriend is gettting married next month and she asked me to be in her wedding. Cool, but this ***** insists I relax my hair for it, I told her I would get it blow dried and curled for her wedding, but nnnnnnnoooooooooo she said she wants all of us to get our . hair done by her stylist. I said no because I have my own stylist I trust. AM I WRONG ?

So I talked to my friend yesterday and told her I couldn't be apart of her wedding. 1. I'll never get another relaxer 2. gotta have back surgery on the 7th of next month. 3. You couldn't be much of a friend if you think my hair needs a permanent change for your wedding. 4. You're being such a witch your maid of honor quit. She was quite surprised and thought I would just bend to her will.

Not trying to be funny but I swear I don't know anyone else on the forum whose hair is the center of drama like yours seems to be. :lachen: If you want to relax, relax. LHCF is home to both relaxed heads and naturals, as well as texlaxed/texturized folks and we support them all. Whatever you do, you'll have support here, but if you were my friend and threw a tantrum over a request to relax and even let me down and refused to be part of my wedding and then I later see your hair relaxed, I don't think we'd be the same friends we were again. I don't like dishonesty and I'd wonder what your real reason was since relaxing apparently wasn't really the issue. JMHO
