What makes KCCC so special?

Ok, I've been debating on buying this and I need justification. Does this custard have some secret ingredient that makes curls pop? How is it any different from anything else? I know this might be redundant but please bare with me.

I watched several you tube vids and some of them had TWA's and it seemed nice but AGAIN what is in it? A top secret curl popper?

It's wasn't special for me at all. It does what any other gel does. Ecostyler works just as good at a fraction of the price. Some people love KCCC but for me it's nothing special. I wish I had never bought it but I've gotten it to work well enough to use up the jar.

thanks Pokahontas. I met this girl who had tight tight pen coils and she said it made the "pop" but I thought compared to what? Can't you get the same "pop" with any other gel or custard if you work it right or is there a special method to the madness?

IMO you can do the exact same thing with any gel. It will make curls pop, also it's got a strong hold so it also makes them crunchy, a little goes a loooooong way. The first time I used it I raked it in like the video showed and I had the flattest, crunchiest wash n' go ever. I used too much but I know how to better use it now. I've noticed that more tightly coiled naturals seem to really love the product.

disclaimer I have never used this product because of the price but I think that a lot of people with tighter curl/coil patterns like myself, the curl pattern doesn't show on dry hair easily. It usually needs a product to weigh it down until it dries. I think KCCC was one of the first products designed to do this and so it gets a lot of hype.

Other knock offs that I have heard of... (I've used these but can't provide a comparison)

Longaid curl activator on dry hair,(for moisture) followed by eco styler for weight and hold (Both 2lb tubs would put you back about $11)

and I've also used Kiss my face upper management gel. I've been told that is tis a dead ringer for KCCC in consistency and results ( around 6 or $7 on vitacost)

I guess I am in the minority but I actually prefer KCCC better than any gel. I mostly do wash n go's, I find that when I use KC leave-in + gel, my hair gets dry very easily. When I use KC leave-in + KCCC my hair remains soft and moisturized over a course of a few days. I used to use the leave-in by itself but I like to add the KCCC because I need the extra hold. A small amount goes a looooong way. It also smells very nice!

Btw I am a 3c and from what I have noticed KCCC may not work well for those with a tighter coil

Thanks so much for this thread OP! I've been wanting to try out KCCC for the longest time but it's difficult to get over here. I just got told about a British website for curly hair and they stock KCCC so I'm contemplating ordering it.

BUMP!

KCCC is just ok to me. I've never used it consistently because I just can't hang with the texture.

Ecostyler has worked much better for me than KCCC ever has.

I actually like KCCC, but it is true that a little goes a long way. When I first used it, I slathered it all up in my hair like it was going out of style, then paid the price later with mega crunchy hair. To this day, I still have some trouble with crunchiness whenever I use it.

I love it. True, many of the other gels (ECOstyler, Fanatasia IC, etc.) yield similar results, but there is a difference in their ingredients. KCCC uses Aloe vera juice and agave nectar for hold while the others use carbomer, Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and other plasticizing agents for hold. Even the "pure" aloe vera gels like Lily of the Desert and Fruit of the Earth contain carbomer to thicken them up (if you've ever cut open the gel pack of an aloe vera plant you'll notice that it is very slimy and similar in texture to kccc).

KCCC can/does make the hair crunchy when over applied but in my experience, so do most gelatinous products on the market. The difference between kccc and the other gels (IMO) is the ability to scrunch out the crunch and still get multiple day hair without flakes and loss of definition. KCCC never lets me down on when it comes to this. And when my hair starts to get fuzzy, all I have to do is splash with water and it's reactivated, no need to apply more product. I have trouble doing this with other gels. I can also rinse it out of my hair with water alone.

People seem to either love KCCC or hate it. It's one of those things that you just have to try for yourself. I circled KCCC for 6 months before I finally bought it and when I tried it I hated it! But I retraced my footsteps went to the website, followed the directions and now it's my HG. A jar lasts me 4 months. I would start with the smaller $17 jar and follow the directions on usage. If you like, YaY. If not, well at least you didn't spend $30.

I've been curious about this too, a friend of mine with 4ab gets popping curls with this, she says she uses the Knot today and KCCC so I think I MAY buy it. I currently have to douse my hair with conditioner to get/maintain any curl definition so I'm up for anything with less product.

BTW there's a thread somewhere that gives a homemade recipe for KCCC.

KCCC seriously defined my hair with the least amount of product. It gave my hair the most wonderful curls. However, Ecostyler gel plus smooth n shine curl activator also gave me nice curls. It costs less but I did not have the easy second day hair that KCCC gave me.:nono:

It cost too much for what it did. I think maybe my curls weren't meant to 'pop' but I ended up looking like I had a jerry curl. I used a lot of shea butter and oils to counteract the crunchiness.

I think you should use some sort of paddle or denman brush to get it to work but I'm one of those people that are in the 'leave it' category. If you can find a cheaper alternative, go for it, otherwise...meh.

In my opinion... a lot of natural hair products that are that expensive are overrated. I've never tried Miss Jessie's before, but I heard the same thing about their products- extremely too expensive for the amount you get and for what it does. I like KCCC, but I agree with everyone else that eco-styler does the same thing. The only difference is the ingredients.

KCCC made my hair look like i had a jerri curl, all i needed was some S-curl activator! It was crunchy too, and yes i used as little as possible!

I bought it when it was $25, now i think it is $30 w/o shipping. And it is not worth it! Its just a high class gel:nono:

KCCC is the best gel I have ever used hands down.

The number one reason why I love it is the natural ingredients, like someone posted above there is no carbormer, pvp, cones, or anything scary.

I also love the way it works in my hair. I use a nice leave in prior to application and I have no issues with crunchy hair. One application lasts until my next wash, and it rinses out easily.

I have tried the upper management gel, and IMO they do not compare, except that the ingredients are also natural. I tried really hard to like the ecostyler olive gel, that people rave about, but it made my hair crunchy and overall, it just didn't work for me.

As far as what hair type it works better in, I think KCCC is known for being one of the most universal gels. Check out www.naturallycurly.com People with varying hairtypes consider it a holy grail item.

If you're looking for a nice gel and it's not important for it to be natural, there are tons of other options under $5. I think activator gels give the best balance of moisture and hold in a single product, but you can also use them under a regular gel if you need more hold.

And let's not forget that no two heads of hair are alike in what they like and how it responds to every product, so with some experimenting you'll find what's right for you.

ur hair is gorgeous and i definitely think KCCC would give you nice results:yep:

i love kccc. IT'S a staple. No other product has been able to give me those kinds of results thus far:grin:

I haven't had much luck with it personally. It's very tricky to use, dries crunchy and gives my hair an un-natural looking finish.
