Now I have never before heard of or seen this method but I came across a video on youtube where a woman took a flat iron, wrapped in in aluminum foil, placed it on the lowest setting and then passed it through her hair all while the DC was on it.

:perplexed

I don't think I would try it but has anyone tried it? What were your results.

I've never tried it...it seems a little dangerous. Won't the aluminum foil snag your hair? I'd like to see the video if you wouldn't mind sharing the link.

there is a specific conditioner that calls for this - i cant remember the name, but i saw that video - the conditioner has little balls in it right? it was expensive too i remember that!

I know that La Plancha Deep Conditioner can be used this way. I learned this on www.bluebeez.com just this morning. I have this conditioner but because I am on a personal low/no heat challenge, I don't think I will be trying out this method anytime soon.

LA PLANCHA Deep Heat Reconstructor Treatment helps restore texture, body and shine, replenishing essential proteins, amino acids humectants to your hair. DIRECTIONS : This product can be applied in three different ways depending on your particular needs: Apply LA PLANCHA after shampoo, leave in hair for 3-5 minutes, rinse with warm water. Style as usual. For moderate conditioning, shampoo and towel dry hair. Apply LA PLANCHA from scalp to ends, wrap hair in plastic cap and place under dryer or blower for 15 minutes, rinse with warm water. Style as usual. For deeper conditioning and intensive hair repair, after shampooing apply LA PLANCHA, divide hair into sections, wrap each section in aluminum foil. Proceed to heat each section with professional hair ceramic iron for 30 seconds. Rinse with warm water. Style as usual.
Loved the DC, but never tried it as recommended in the red.

I saw that video a couple of years ago too. I vaguely remember the process. You kind of jogged my memory.

Weird. This is interesting. I'm interested in finding out the technical reason for the aluminum foil.

not that i think it would damage the hair because i dont know, but its not something i would do. if i wanted to use heat i would do a heat cap.

Probably no reason at all. Most likely it's just a marketing technique to make the conditioner seem unique. I don't see how that is any different than just sitting under a dryer or heat cap for 15 minutes.

Aluminum foil heats quickly and cools quickly. Like when you take something with aluminum foil out of the oven and the foil is not hot to the touch. Maybe because heats quickly to open the follicles and cools quickly to close them? I know that's true about foil, but I'm totally guessing here about the technical reasoning, so I could be completely wrong.:perplexed

I first read about this technique on growafrohairlomg many moons ago. I did it few times. I never experienced any negative results/consequences.

Hmmm interesting. That seems very time consuming though. I wonder if it's any more effective than DCing with a heat cap, hooded dryer or steaming.

I cant believe she did all that just to avoid sitting under the dryer for a few minutes?

If it works for her great, seem a little time consuming to me though and I actually enjoy my under the dryer time. Gives me a few minutes to relax.

I had this done several years ago at a Dominican Salon. My hair was so smooth, soft, silky after this was done. I loved it! I went back to get it done and the idiot had no clue, mind you this was the same salon, but the person that did it was no longer there. So back to idiot, she says, well I can put conditioner in your hair and flat iron it, but I can't use the foil. Even then I knew that would burn my hair off, I politely said no thanks, idiot. Never asked anyone about it again.

I think the foil somehow protects the hair. Maybe acts as a buffer between the condish & the flat iron plates. When I had it done ceramic and temperature control flat irons were not used. Just high or low setting on gold-n-hot flat iron. I just know I said heck no when I was offered to have the treatment done without foil cuz that just seemed like a disaster!

I like Mop Top Maven. I don't approve of doing this instead of a regular heat cap for me though. A Dryer gets it done the same way.

Wow, foil and flat irons huh? If my hair is so bad off that I need to go through all that, I think I would just cut it off and start over.
But from the comments I see that it works for some. More power to you.

She said the reason she does it with the flat iron is because she doesn't want to take the time to sit under a dryer. Oook.
