Ok so I know I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing and being impatient. But it's been a month and a half since my BC and I don't feel I've had any growth and what's irritating me most of all is this DRYNESS!! :wallbash:
I can not get rid of this dry mess NO MATTER WHAT I DO! Sorry ladies but I just needed to vent!

PLease don't give up! I'm still trying to find products that work for my hair. Have you tried Vegetable glycerin mixed with either distilled water or rosewater? This is the best moisturizer for my hair sealed with any oil that I have nearby.
Just give your hair time...it will start growing like grass especially since it is getting so much warmer now!

I have not tried this yet. I have heard great things about rose water and shea butter. I will try your suggestions and anything else I can try. Hopefully i don't go crazy! :lachen:

Hang in there! I'm struggling with dryness, too. I co-wash almost everyday, and spray my hair with my glycerin/water mix 2/3 times a day. We are going to have ups and downs as we learn our hair, and Rome wasn't built in a day. Don't be discouraged. ETA, don't forget to try out some jherri juice too, lol. I actually add some to my water n glycerin mix.

Lol...I use S Curl on the regular (I think that qualifies as Jherri juice). I am sticking in there but it is sooo frustrating. Am I expecting too much too soon? Is this scab hair or is there even such a thing?

Hopefully someone on here can give you some helpful advice. I just wanted to let you know you are so brave for doing a BC. I know I was not confident enough with myself to do one and in a lot of ways I regret not taking the plunge. Your hair is beautiful and I hope it works out.

Thank you very much! For a while I thought "There's no way I will ever BC". But, one day something "clicked" and I just had it all chopped off. My hair was so damaged I figured it was pointless to hold onto it. Anyway, I'm getting great advice and I hope something works for my hair very soon!

It took about 2 months for my hair to settle out after I BC'd. You have to remember you hair is still in shock from not having the relaxed hair attached and is now free. For a lot of us what worked during transistion or when we were relaxed doesn't work when you are natural.

I had to revamp my routine which included clarifying, protein treatments, and lots of moisture and love. Once I got it under control my hair took off. Henna also helped get my hair in order but this may not be needed or true for you.

Do not lose hope. Patience is the key to this whole thing. Try to use some different products to see what happens (exchange board is great for this). HTH!! HHG!!

I have very very dry hair and the thing that help me was using scurl on my hair and baggying every night. Also if you have time deep condition your hair twice a week. This will also help with the dryness. If you feel discourage find a pretty wig and rock it for a couple of months. Before you know it your hair will be growing in nicely. It is always an adjustment when you bc your hair.

Thank you! I feel like I don't know how much to moisturize. When I don't moisturize enough my hair is obviously dry...but when I step up the moisture my hair gets hard and crunchy!?

Get some braids..hide your hair so you don't have to think about it..When you take out the P.S you will see growth. Just moisturize, moisturize, moisturize while in your PS of choice.
HTH

I have been rocking a wig ever since I BC'd and have not worn my hair out yet. You would think this would help me keep my mind off of my hair...but the minute I get home from work I'm messing with it and can't keep my hands out!

When I Bc'd last year and was discouraged I made a post as well. I was given the advice to cowash daily and also someone pointed me in the direction of tightlycurly.com. I used her method and lots of oils and scalp massages and just using water on my hair on a daily basis and it softened quickly.

I would advise starting over at this point. Do a clarifying treatment, then a protein treatment and end with a moisturizing DC.

Make sure the products you are using to moisturize with don't have protein in it. I've never heard of hair getting hard and crunchy with moisture usually it is soft and mushy. I've made the mistakes of using "moisturizing" products and not realizing that there was protein (silk, wheat, keratin, amino acids, collagen) in it and wondering why my hair was getting hard.

Thanks ladies!

Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer(www.beemineproducts.com) and Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Buttercreme and Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream(www.qhemetbiologics.com) are wonderful moisturizers!! I use the bee mine luscious cream moisturizer and my older sister who's transitioning uses the qhemet biologics amla & olive heavy cream. They're great!! HTH!!

try to find something to combat the dryness & then maybe put braids in your hair so you won't suffer from "a watched pot never boils" syndrome.

I agree with what all the other ladies have said. I recently BC'd my nape area only after a year transition and it has been extremely dry as well. I keep my hair moisturized with Qhemets AOHC and OHHB and I also use a spritz consisting of distilled water, EVOO, Aloe vera gel, Honey, and Vegetable glycerin. I also baggy at night with a scarf over the plastic bag. In the morning I spray with the spritz, lightly brush up, and attach my faux bun. In the evening after work, my hair is still moisturized.

Your hair is growing, but depending on how tight your curl pattern is and how thick your hair is, it may take a while for it to be obvious to you. The reason everyone always things that white women with straight hair or Asians have hair that grows fast is that the change is so obvious in hair that is pin straight. The discussion about hair growth has been held in other threads. Only a small portion of your hair is at rest at any given time, and the rest is growing. I personally think that it's better to let your scalp breath; granted, hair is not like a plant(it's protein, not live tissue, like fingernails) so it doesn't need the sunlight but learn to love your new look and also love yourself for more than your hair. Wear big earrings that set it off, or wear head wraps if it's not too hot, or do something fun with eyeshadow. it's the summer, so enjoy it.

We get too caught up in that it's just not good. I love that people are going natural and learning how to make their hair healthy, but this obsession about how fast it's growing and how long it is and not wanting to ever cut it is really bad for us. People are trading the obsession for pin straight hair with all of this new stuff. But keeping your scalp healthy is very important so no matter what you do, keep it clean and clear, and get your rest, and drink water, and all of those things that are just good for your entire body, and not just your hair.

Hey, I cut my hair 3 times before i got it right, doesn't mean you have to do it but i did..... I wish i would have knew about this site and maybe i would have stuck with the first cut. It took time and im still learning more about my hair but dont give up because no offense to relaxed heads but my hair has never been so healthy since i've done the BC... I have my dry days and my not ups but it's worth it.... One day your going to be looking @ your before pictures and your going to smile, because that's just what happened yesterday to me. I was like wow!!! and i want to you to feel that too.... Were all hear for you because it is hard, and is stressful at times but the satisfication you get from it is awesome.... Stay Encouraged!!!

Not to hijack the OP, but can anyone tell me the reason your hair is so dry when you first go natural? I have heard many of the natural ladies say time and again when they first bc or are fully natural their hair is ultra dry, but I don't know the reason for the dryness.

I def suggest something w/glycerin.. I use a mixture of AVG/distilled H2O and veg glycerin and my hair absolutely lubbs it

good luck and dont give up....
