horribly ITCHING SCALP!! any help?

Just throwing this out there as something to think about: I am sensitive to tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E) which is in a LOT of hair and beauty products. If a product has too much it will make skin and scalp itch to the point of keeping me up at night, cause lips and eyes to swell, etc.

If have an allergy to something like aloe vera, Vitamin E, or lanolin, most products will cause itching because they are such common ingredients.

My first thought is that you may want to try clarifying with a non-sulfate shampoo and baking soda. I'm no expert, but it feels heavenly to me. :yep: See if that does the trick.
Good luck!
PS. I cannot use oils on my "scalp" of any type because I'll get mad itching. Perhaps you don't need them or might want to try a cream if you need to add moisture to your scalp. HTH

Mizani Custom Blend Scalp Tonic Dry Scalp Treatment in the applicator bottle and Nizoral worked wonders for me. Does sound like an allergy, but why just @ the crown???? Hmmm... Good luck!

I've been around.....:wallbash:
and around................:wallbash:
AND AROUND.................:wallbash:
on researching solutions for an itching scalp. Treated it with tea tree oil almost daily, jojoba, lavendar, peppermint oil<--(soothes, temporary)....shampoos but no SOLUTION

besides any prescriptions
.....what solutions, remedies do you know that may help itching scalp?
i wash/cowash nearly daily to soothe my scalp issues..... currently trying to find a SUPERB steamer in hopes to help!!!?

ADDING 1 THING>>>>> it's severe, but ONLY the very top crown area of my hair! not the sides (above the ears) ....& not the back AT ALL!!!

have you tried any new products that started this?
Check your usual products and see if they changed the formula.
Try just water rinses, finger-combing, low tension PS stay away from any shampoos even if they're mild or SLS free shampoos are still drying, then work your back up to CW with a moisturizing condish. Tea tree oil by itself would probably work better it works great for dry itchy scalp.

I think you're mixing too many oils, for one peppermint oil is more of a stimulant for hair growth not for soothing usually lavender too, and do a final rinse with cool water to help sooth your scalp. hth
ETA: for moisturizing the ends use some EVOO, and don't use anything on your scalp except the tea tree oil

i absolutely think this is an issue
my problem is ....i'm just a tad by of an SUPERSIZED pj'er
i literally have a salon of products
and this started looooooong before i even knew of a hair journey

do with the house full of sulfate shampoos...i've been following kimmay's advice of adding aloe vera juice to my shampoos ....as well as peppermint oil until i get thru the dayuum 50 bottles of varying shampoos
(most designed for itching & shedding)

but i'm definitely never going back to sulfates after this:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

THANK U SO MUCH LADIES, I'M TRYING SO HARD

Yeah, I'm a reformed pj so I get it *ignores recent drugstore minihaul* What ratio of aloe vera to shampoo are you using? 50-50? 70-30?

Being impatient, I gave away a lot of products to my friends. Oh well, this way I don't have to buy them birthday and christmas products.

about 20% aloe juice

the aloe vera gel was not working out (mixing) well

Try diluting it a little more. Maybe w/ a conditioner or non-sulfate shampoo? 50-50? And try out a handheld shower head so you can focus on washing everything off your scalp.

Also, I see Neutrogena has now come out with a T-Gel conditioner. Being the kind person I am and not at all a pj, I bought it to see how it works while you use up your stash. :giggle: I'll let you know.

You'll find a solution to calm your scalp. :yep:

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but I have never understood why anyone would apply conditioner to the scalp. Yeah, I know some conditioner say "for scalp" too but I just don't get how a product that is supposed to coat and smooth hair cuticles is also supposed to be good for your scalp. I am a believer that the scalp should be product-free and clean so I never apply conditioner to my scalp. I even skip the inch of hair closest to my scalp when applying conditioner. I'm not so naive as to think that doing this means conditioner never gets to my scalp, but I do not purposefully apply it to my scalp and doing it this way ensures whatever gets there is minimal to none. Applying conditioner to your scalp to me is an invitation for itches. I can't even DC overnight because wearing a cap with conditioner on would only encourage it to get to my scalp, and my head starts to itch immediately. It's also why I have sorta quit DCing with heat; got tired of the itches.

When I do rinse out conditioner, I go the extra mile of dunking my head in ACV solution and massaging my scalp while submerged to ensure it is left squeaky clean.

something that I have done recently that seems to help is add tea tree oil and peppermint oil to a tea tree shampoo, applying it directly to the scalp. I put it on my hair prior to getting in the shower and I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, then hop in shower, massage a little and rinse.

When I get out, I apply an oil mixuture (evoo, tea tree oil, and peppermint oil) to scalp and sit under dryer with shower cap on. I do not rinse. I apply the oil to my hair every day to every other day. It has gotten to the point where I don't feel I need to put it on everyday.

After working out, I spray some diluted ACV to scalp (I don't rinse) and apply some more oil. It actually seems to work, I am someone who would dang near have scabs in my head from scratching so much the itching was just that bad. I've only been doing this for a couple weeks but I think I found something that works.

I know everyone has offered up various remedies. I hope you find one that works for you!

This lady at my church is a hairdresser and recommended regular listerine. My mom recommended too. So it's worth a shot. I have the purple listerine so I wasn't able to test it out on my hair. But, try it for your itches in your hair to see if it helps.

:dazed:

Is the rest of your body itching to? Does it get worse during certain times of day? Or after you've ate something? Other then the itchiness, do you have any other stressful situations you're dealing with? Do you wear a head scarf or bonnet when you go to sleep? How do you usually do your hair?

I'm gonna need you to kidnap a dermatologist and hold them hostage until they soothe your scalp situation. :hug3:

Have you looked at the Hair Product Exchange forum? I'm sure there are people who would take some of those products off your hands. :yep:

How easily is Vaseline absorbed by the skin? I can understand if you swallow it, but I'm not sure I'll be giving it up as a product I apply to my skin.

I love Dr Oz and think he's a genius but I do not think Botox is a good idea for wrinkles but he thinks it's OK. So do a lot of so-called doctors and experts in the field of health. Seems everything causes cancer or some type of ailment. So I guess everyone should just pick the poison they're willing to risk.

Some will have rat poison injected into their faces without any qualms whatsoever to paralyze muscles so they look young, regardless of what the longterm effects of poisoning their nerves might be. I on the other hand will stick with Vaseline.

Might be just me, but I think there are more carcinogens in food and other cosmetics than in Vaseline. What's more, I have found Vaseline to do my body more good than the "safer" lotions big companies would have me use. *shrug*

You have added aloe vera juice/gel? to your conditioners. Have you tried replacing the conditioners with 100% RAW aloe vera juice? Buy a leaf, fillet it, scrape gel and mucilage into a blender. Blend the av slime with some vitamin E oil if you are not going to use it IMMEDIATELY because it will oxidize.

Pure AVJ will be foamy. You can rinse it out with water if you dont add oils or butters to it.

NOW ...THAT IT HAS CALMED DOWN TO MY NORMAL ITCH....(HAD A FEW DAYS WHERE MY SCALP WAS ON FIRE)...INFLAMMED FROM ALL THESE "SOLUTIONS".....

i am going thru each treatment selection and will try them for maybe 2 weeks until i find a soothing remedy

i have been washing/rinsing/cowashing twice a day b/c it flared up (first time ever) and i'm sure it stemmed from my attempt to try everything back to back (i know better)
:lachen::lachen::lachen:
hopefully i will come out stronger! and soothing:lachen:

Did you see my blog about my dry itchy scalp experiment? Trying to stick with coswashing w/ Neutrogena's t-gel conditioner. So far, my scalp is flaking it's butt off. May try to upgrade to using the t-sal shampoo with it. *brushes off shoulders*

Girl, I don't know what to say about your scalp. Have you considered having a preacher to exorcise it? Maybe have shaman lay hands on it? I'm about to come over there and dunk your head w/ holy water. :hug3:
