maybe you just need to clarify your hair

My hair is doing very well. I had a special event last weekend and I wore my hair down, talking about a chore. Flat ironing, curling and styling. It was alot of work. I was so happy to come home Sunday, DC and back to my juice. I'm now using a homemade glycerin mix that I'm spraying on my hair and then I'm lightly applying the CFCG. I'm loving it. I'm noticing that I'm losing very little hair since I've been juicing. I'm primarily interested in the reason why Adora started her thread about juicing because it retains your length. Our hair will grow, but I'm sure I speak for everyone who joined the challenge that we want to halt the breakage and experience several inches of longer hair by the end of this challenge.

I claim this Juice Gate 2010:clap:

LMAO trouble maker! :lachen:

I don't know if I have retained length on this challenge. Its too soon to tell. I do notice that my hair is super moisturized using s-curl and the care free curl (gold). I'm talking hair so soft I get super hair in afro disease LOL  I also have noticed that when I comb my hair I don't have any extra shedding (one of my fears) and I don't have the hard hair some others talk about. I will continue using this throughout the summer. The ingredients aren't bad at all and my hair will need all the moisture it can get.

i was in the challenge from the side line, but fell off.. .cuz i maybe glycerin sensitive, cuz it made my hair mushy. and i wasnt heavy handed with it..

Great thread, OP. I've been "juicing" for years. I've always used Curl moisturizers instead of braid spray while wearing braids because my hair dries out quickly. Also, I used Worlds of Curls moisturizer (along with Surge 14 or Infusium 23 for a shot of protein) while I transitioned in braids. When taking down the braids, I noticed that my hair was softer and I had little to no breakage. Now that I'm newly natural, I continue to use it daily.:yep:

I prefer to use Worlds of Curls because my hair seems to retain moisture better than other moisturizers. It's not sticky or greasy. I don't have a problem with glycerine build-up (then again, I usually clarify every 2 weeks because I'm pretty heavy handed :look:)I see that alot of other ladies swear by S-Curl but my hair doesn't react well with it (I don't think my hair like cones).

I don't have before and after pics because I BC'd about a week ago but I will post pics in this thread soon to show progress.

My history using the juice

Just so you know, I've basically only been using s-curl (I put a little castor oil on my scalp for a week, but I'm stopping now; it's not necessary). After I wash my hair, I apply s-curl straight up to my hair. Throughout the week, and spritz my hair twice a day (once in the morning, and once in the evening) with a diluted mixture of water (2/3) and s-curl (1/3) (2 oz. bottle fyi).

2. Issues with humidity. As I stated above, I live in Chicago. If you know anything about Chicago, it should be the weather. You can go through all the seasons in one week (and IMO Chicago only has 2 seasons-hot and cold). I had the "pleasure" of experiencing the "one week-2 seasons" a while back. I kind of appreciated it though because I got to experiment with the humidity issues. This is what I've found:

a-my hair feels so much softer and smoother when there is more humidity in the air.

b-my hair doesn't feel bad in the absence of humidity. I'll talk more about the the way my hair feels in issue number 3.

3. My hair can sometimes feel dry and smooth at the same time. That might not make sense, but it's true. Sometimes I can feel my hair, and if I rub it it's a little dry feeling (and it's not like my hair is dry; it's just the way the s-curl makes it feel). However, if I unravel my hair, it feels really smooth (worth nothing: my ends always feel great).

4. Barely any definition when I style. I'm just now starting to style my hair, but still. I might just need to improve my technique-especially since I refuse to use gel.

5. My scalp is starting to itch. I believe this is because I don't rinse my hair every single day. This might just be the clencher for whether or not I continue to use the juice after I finish the bottle.

My hair seems to act similarly to your. I live in Milwaukee, and I get the same feeling of dry and smooth hair at the same time when there is no humidity. So I know what you mean.

For definition, I have to make sure I saturate my hair with the juice until really damp, but not too wet, and then braid or twist really tight at night. There must be at least 10 hours before I undo the set for a defined style. But even then, as the day continues, it puffs up a little. That could be due to my hand in fro disease tho.

For itching, I notice that I am having more itchies than usual. I just make sure I go thru my wash process every three days. And give myself nightly scalp massages after I juice my scalp. This helps a bit. But if anyone has a better idea, i'm all ears. This problem is the most annoying one. I hate scratching in public because if I start, I can't stop :nono:.

But I too will continue to juice. I have lost very little hair when normally I lose handfuls a day. So it may not be beneficial for my scalp, but I can visually see results for my hair. I use a homemade mix of distilled water (because I have very hard water too), glycerin, aloe vera juice, essential oils, and coconut oil.

i was in the challenge from the side line, but fell off.. .cuz i maybe glycerin sensitive, cuz it made my hair mushy. and i wasnt heavy handed with it..

I got a mushy at first too, then Adora suggested I start protein treatments and now I have the perfect balance :yep:

Okay I gave my hair a couple of days rest from the intense baggying. Let it dry completely and used my homemade oils. My hair feels great. Also last week, I did a 'rachet oil' treatment to strengthen my hair and roots. My hair feels soft from root to tip. I think I will stick to 5 days a week and use the other 2 days to do a thorough assessment of the effect of the jheri juice and see if my hair needs protein etc. Hard to tell these things when it is dripping with da juice.

Back to the baggy today.

How are your results stacking up ladies? This stuff is the nizbiz!

Great retention
No shedding
great ends
Great texture
Moisture retention is the best I have ever had
Fullness and adding some length

next?

I'm relaxed and got into a bit of trouble with protein 2 weeks ago (used a protein poo & protein condish) and it left my hair feeling like straw even after an hour using a moisturizing DC with heat. I saturated my hair from root to tip with S-curl for 3 days straight and bunned. My hair feels unbelievable and my shedding has definitely been reduced. It's tha juice man, tha juice!

I use the African Pride Curl Activator...it is thick but works for me. I think I am addicted!!!!The lighter or thinner gels or sprays ...my hair doesn't like them. They leave my hair feeling stiff and hard to separate the strands. I can use the APCA for 3-4 days in a row, saturated and it's all good. My hair has never 'felt' this good.

luv the juice and I posted my progress in the juice challenge, but let me share the wealth over here aswell.

BC MARCH 2010

3 MONTH UPDATE JUNE 2010

I started out using wn and scurl then I switched to my own glycerin mix. I use it 2x a day. And i just put in yarn braids again so I'm using that for my moisture spray as well but here are my results so far from juicing

Do you ever brush your hair flat and put a scarf on after you juice? It sure defines the texture of your hair.

I also add extra to the ends and tuck them in. I am really into the 'retention' thing, and this has been the best thing ever for my ends.

hey thanks Mahalialee4, this is just fine:yep:, we can all post our result of using the juice in this thread as well as the challenge thread. when i get my pics together i will post them in this thread and the challenge thread, i have no problems with this, thanks!

i was in the challenge from the side line, but fell off.. .cuz i maybe glycerin sensitive, cuz it made my hair mushy. and i wasnt heavy handed with it..

i have this small patch of hair on my crown that is always drier than the rest of my hair... like a real problem area.... the juice may be to heavy on the othr parts of my hair, but it have resollved the dry crown issue! so i will use it on the dry area daily.

I'm not sure how much growth I've gotten since I BC but I can say that I retained just about all that I have grown:

The first pic is my BC day April 28, the second pic was taken May 5th, and the last was taken June 8/

Direct results of the 'Juice'. I believe I have gained an inch in some areas that grow fairly well, and surprising, an inch + in areas that have just been sitting there. Back of crown area to be exact. That area really seems to be taking off and I accredit the growth and the improved texture specifically to 'juicin' with the African Pride Curl Activator. Before that the ends in those areas were sketchy and crunchy and hard to retain the length. I think once those areas catch up to the rest of the hair, things will take off even better.

I tried and continue to try. But I just dont like the sticky or coated feeling on my hands or on my hair. I have them all HS14, WN, GFG, CFC. There is something about the residue that creeps me out.:ohwell: Combined with the fact that I live in the desert, it tends to dry my hair out rather than moisturise. But I will continue to use until my stash is gone and hope for results.

YMMV

BTW - I have a question. I'm natural (4a I think) and I was wondering how to apply the juice if you are wearing two strand/kinky natural twists without getting all frizzy. I am currently straightened (and puffy :wallbash:) but will probably twist after the next wash- TIA (thanks in advance)!

When I wear my hair in twist, I just spray the juice on my hair (SCurl) and make sure I apply it to the length of my twist, paying close attention to my ends. When I'm at home, I just put a shower cap over my head (I tend to me a little heavy handed), and when I go out I just fluff my twist a little and go on about my way. HTH

My front sides ARE GROWING!!!! They grow slowly. It is such a great feeling when you stretch the length on an area that just PARKED, like FOREVER!...and realize....it just creeped slowly into an inch or more of growth that you never noticed. because your hair is in a bun most of the time.

luv this juicin' man.

My daughter result

hi all,

just posting an update for jheri juice challenge.
i took a picture on march 30, unfortunately my husband deleted it thinking that it was kids playing with camera:wallbash:. Fortunately for me, i did mark the white t-shirt she was wearing on that day, so still gives me an idea of how much growth!

the first picture, was taken today, straight after shampooing Mahalia's hair and marked the tee-shirt again.
the second one shows the t-shirt with the first mark and today's mark.
in total she has gain about 2.5 inches.
i had to stop using curl free gold and swaitch to a homemade mixture of purified water, vegetable glycerine, aloe vera.
Mahalia is very pleased with the growth.
thanks Adora for starting the challenge!
