horribly ITCHING SCALP!! any help?

My mom told me she had constant itching in the top of her head. Her hair also became thin in the area. Once day she decided to use Neosporin in that area and she said the itching stopped and the hair is growing back slowly. I also told her about cowashing. I've bought her conditioner and coconut oil and she does this daily. She hasn't mentioned anything about itching anymore.

THANX

WHICH NEOSPORIN??????
GOT IT......NOW GOT TO FIND IT

i have a damaged my scalp i'm sure
i initially thought it was the braids...i'm a chronic braider....synthetic & human
but i've been out of braids for about a year...still no relief

i have done scalpicin= nothing....nizoral, dr. miracle & most dandruff itchy shampoos work! but the effect wears off like within hours (or at least by the next day) t-gel , they all help, but no solutions....work for less than 24hrs usually
i've been trying natural to get rid of any possible irritants

i think any conditioners on my scalp are irritants

They are for me that's why I don't conditioner wash. My scalp needs to get clean every time not just once every few weeks. I use aveda scalp benefits or rosemary mint for my scalp and I have no itchies but any quality, clear shampoo with cinnamon or mint oils will work the same. I like the Indian herbs but they leave me with a slight itch too so that's why I don't use them often.

OP I know you said you don't have insurance however I SERIOUSLY advise you get yourself to a professional dermatologist.

The fact that the itching is localized to a particular area sets off alarm bells for me. As someone who has dealt with hair loss I am very much of the opinion that sooner is better than later. If you cannot see a derm I would see your Doctor in the first instance to rule out any scalp issues.

I called her and she said she used the Neosporin that has the consistency of grease. She said she didn't use the cream kind.

She said you don't need to use much because those tubes can get expensive.

wow....i actually have both
let me get my *** up NOW!:drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk:

WAIT???? NEOSPORIN? i was told b4 the stuff used as a toe fungal.....not cuts, burns????

OK...ITS NEOSPORIN AF.....not the one for cuts burns (just checked)
Neosporin AF Antifungal Cream for Athlete's Foot

thank u ....gotta find that one

The only thing that help me is to go ahead and wash my hair again. I wash my hair at least 2-3 times a week now. My length has not suffered from it.

does your shampoo contain sulfates? if so, perhaps consider switching to a sulfate free shampoo. i used to dry scalp issues, but since i switched 2 years to abba pure moisture shampoo, i've had no problems. hope this passes soon!

ur rt...that helps me
i wash or cowash daily!

i have noticed it's worse as soon as i tie my hair down

as if when my hair strands touches my scalp!
:ohwell::ohwell::ohwell::ohwell:

i got $175 speeding ticket (dummy):wallbash: on the way to get indian herbs
i have been using brahami, shikakai, neem (that's all they had) and so far i like them on my face
i think neem caused me to shed alot
something did....like over nite & that was the newby

Neen is VERY STRONG. I've been using these herbs most of my life (off/on) and neem is the one I am most careful with. I'd leave it alone and work with the others.

It could be a fungus. I would try a good anti-fungal shampoo (otherwise known as a dandruff shampoo) and let it sit on the scalp for a solid 5 minutes.

If that doesn't work, then follow up with oil treatments, etc.

I've been around.....:wallbash:
and around................:wallbash:
AND AROUND.................:wallbash:
on researching solutions for an itching scalp. Treated it with tea tree oil almost daily, jojoba, lavendar, peppermint oil<--(soothes, temporary)....shampoos but no SOLUTION

besides any prescriptions
.....what solutions, remedies do you know that may help itching scalp?
i wash/cowash nearly daily to soothe my scalp issues..... currently trying to find a SUPERB steamer in hopes to help!!!?

any solutions (no insurance currently....so no dermatologist access):nono:

ADDING 1 THING>>>>> it's severe, but ONLY the very top crown area of my hair! not the sides (above the ears) ....& not the back AT ALL!!!

we are >>>>>HERE<<<<<< I have ALWAYS suffered from itchy scalp and skin in general. I even have some spots on my body that if i scratched them every time they itched, I wouldn't have any skin left.

The only time my scalp feels good is after my stylist applies something to my scalp after my relaxer that initially burns like all heck, but then it feels calm.

My hair itches WHILE I'm washing it, after I've washed it, while it's DCing, and right now, its itching.

I do clarify regularly using either or and ---ACV, baking soda, and clarifying shampoo or chalating shampoo. I've tried my own sulfur mix as well as sulfur 8, MN and hydrocortisone.

Someone please help us. BUT on the plus side, I do think my hair grows really fast so perhaps the rate of growth just itches because its so fast. I get 6 inches per year easy(retention is another thread and discussion all together, but I do know how much it grows)

Try soaking your head in Borax and water for a couple of hours. I had a bad allergic reaction to a commercial dye and this is the only thing that helped.

WE ARE EXACTLY EXACTLY ALIKE!!! STILL LAUGHING

this thread made me remember that I had a serious scalp issue once and my DR. recommended head and shoulders itchy scalp treatment. I pulled it out and applied some. IT WORKED

for about an hour :ohwell:

Me too!!! :yep: I have the same dry itchy scalp and have tried everything! Old people used to call it that "growing dandruff" because my hair was BSL and flaky as all get out in high school. :lachen:

Cosign. Sulfates can *** your scalp up if you have a certain sensitivity in your scal.

i absolutely think this is an issue
my problem is ....i'm just a tad by of an SUPERSIZED pj'er
i literally have a salon of products
and this started looooooong before i even knew of a hair journey

do with the house full of sulfate shampoos...i've been following kimmay's advice of adding aloe vera juice to my shampoos ....as well as peppermint oil until i get thru the dayuum 50 bottles of varying shampoos
(most designed for itching & shedding)

but i'm definitely never going back to sulfates after this:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

THANK U SO MUCH LADIES, I'M TRYING SO HARD

oh yeahhh, the infamous growing dandruff. People not ashamed of their cornflake sized flakes because it just meant their hair was on point. I went through a phase with that back in high school.

If I had flakes now it would make me feel better, at least I could blame it on the flakes. I don't even have dandruff.

i'm with you....NO FLAKES, relentless itch

I would suggest stop cowashing. It might not be working for you. I used to co-wash when I went natural in '06 and then I would get this incessant itch--I would scratch and give myself sores. It would go away when I co-wash, then would reappear after a few days. I used vo5 to cowash. So I stopped and the itch went away. Now I shampoo once weekly using a shampoo bar or african black soap. I second staying away from sulfates as they can cause skin irritation

I would also suggest getting some neem oil and applying on your scalp, leaving it overnight and washing in the morning (it stinks, you don't want to have this on all day). It really does help. Also a paste with neem powder applied to hair and scalp and left on for 30+minutes should help too

Good luck

THANKS SIS!!!

WHERE DID U GET THE AFRICAN BLACK SOAP....so many brands...i've read that many are fakes or not really true black soaps

which shampoo bars do u use also?

right now i've got so much peppermint oil in my hair....i'm pretty sure it's causing it to shed

also i realized recently when i felt a slick scalp that if i cowashed...i need to follow with a 10minute ACV rinse/scalp massage after rinsing the conditioner

I get my black soap from butters-n-bars.com. Very reliable, good prices and they are having a 15% off sale until June 1st: Summer15

True black soap is not black -it may have dark specs in it (if the plantain skins or cocoa pods were burned for a long time). It is also very malleable and usually doesn't come in regular shapes. I use blacksoap for my hair as well as my face and body

I use the Chagrin Valley Ayurvedic Herb shampoo barMy hair loves this soap and I can use it twice and it doesn't dry my hair out. If my hair is out, I use it once a week.

You should definitely try the acv after cowash that others suggested should you chose to continue cowashing, maybe that'll help. The buildup is causing itches, maybe the ACV will clear it up???

if you add up all the money you have spent on home remedies, you will probably find that you could save that money and spend it toward one dermatological visit. A derm shouldn't cost more than 250 dollars for a visit, and he/she can probably prescribe some medicated shampoo. If you have severly itchy skin, it sounds like you may have the same condition I have: I have sensitive skin with eczema, so I cannot hardly use any products on my skin. I had a really, REALLY itchy scalp and I actually lost all the hair in my nape because I was itching it so badly in my sleep. The doctor prescribed some ointment, a shampoo, and an oil, which worked very well. I am at work and I cannot remember the name of the oil/shampoo, but the ointment was called desonide. It's pretty much a steroid treatment. The only other thing that I do is I make sure I really rinse my scalp well before applying any shampoo/conditioner...like at least 4-5 minutes. I don't apply any conditioners to my scalp. When I rinse, I rinse again for 4-5 minutes. I used a diluted ACV rinse after I finish rinsing with water. If you are really strapped for cash, try using the baking soda and make sure you really really rinse your scalp after. However, I definitely think with as much as you are spending here and there, you probably can just axe all the at-home remedies for a month, and go see a doctor to get another opinion.

thanks sis!

money isn't the issue, as to why i haven't gone back to the derm------> now paying this growing $126,000 in student loans is another problem:nono::nono:
I still have old treatments that didn't work. I recently relocated to help my family so after 15yrs I have to get adjusted to a new environment
plus, my sister & I have had every Rx medicated shampoo & scalp treatment under the sun ....i'll check my drug books on yours, but
i have tried many....hypersensitivity developed

FOR INSTANCE...ANY LADIES ON HER EVER SEEN A DERMATOLOGIST REPEATEDLY.... WITHOUT SUCCESS?? i know i have
..... homeopathic medicine is apart of my belief & practice....gurl trust i've had PROBLEMS with side effects that has brought me to this decision
