I have noticed that since being on LHCF I have been hair disappointed.

I have an online acquaintance. She is not an LHCF member. (Just wanted to put that out there.)

But basically, this woman has gone on and on about her hair and her sexy body, and how she is light skinnededed and how everyone hates on her light skin, big booty and long hair.

So she finally uploads some pictures of herself. I was so excited to see that long hair. :lick:

She did have a big booty, but she was big in general.:look:

She was indeed very light.

But I was soooooo disappointed with her hair. Like I was really was. I had always imagined her as having long BSL or longer length hair, with the hair swinging over her big booty.

She always talked about people hating on her hair, that even family members hated on her hair.

But she was only just above SL. :perplexed

I eventually had to laugh because I was like before LHCF, I would not have cared one way or the other.

Anyone else go through this whether online or IRL (in real life).

ETA: She has never seen my hair length, she could have seen my avatar, but not my hair.

lol "big in general" i fell out on that part.

i go through this too. i have a friend who ALWAYS wore wigs but talked about how long and luxurious her real hair was under it. of course i believed her cause you know, wigs are a great ps.

so she finally decided to wear her hair out and i had a major "wamp wamp" moment :(

it was super thin, dry, no edges, broken off. she had i would say apl hair with see through ends all the way up to her ears i swear lol. but she loved it, so who am i to burst her bubble... but for a while i thought i was going to have a hair friend irl :(

mmmm:scratchch can't say that I have. I still have realistic expectations for what most black women think of as long....so if I see a sista with APL decent lookin hair I'm like go head girl!

Or any length fro that looks healthy I think it looks awesome...and since I'm so into styles I sort of see all the styling potential as well.

I guess if I hear someone describe their hair one way and we link up and it looks crazy I assume humidity or somethin messed it up inbetween:lachen:

Yeah I know a couple of people who are SL with thin ends and they think their hair is long and luxurious. If they came here they'd be traumatized. I never say anything. If they like it .. I love it. I don't see either of them regularly and when I do I'm in a bun or a braid out.

I've found in general when people go on and on about stuff...they're usually faking the funk.

LMAO @ big in general

I was thinking you were gunna say APL at least lol.
"Long hair" is relative, but ABOVE SL? I don't think even people who aren't hair addicts like us think that SL is long.

But, maybe she had short, unhealthy hair in the past and grew it to almost SL and is super proud of it, so it's really LONG to her? ::shrug::

You are very positive and nice.

Knowing you, you would take the opportunity to school them on what real long hair is and how they can attain it.

YES. I was soooo disappointed. I think LHCF has spoiled me with all the hair porn. All the hater talk had me thinking it had to be at least APL. So then I was like all her family members who hate on her must have EL and shorter hair. :ohwell:

I guess that after being a member of LHCF your expectations of "great looking hair" are a lot higher...lol We know that long hair doesn't really equal beautiful / healthy hair.

It's true!! It really changes perspectives of what is long and what is healthy hair...

Ugh! Something similar happened to me! I work with a girl, she's kind of nice... kind of moody... but anyway, she's trying to "grow her hair."

She eats a lot of junk, sugary drinks, hates water, doesn't exercise, overweight, and just overall doesn't take care of her body.

Her hair is neck length, uneven, desperately dry ends, over processed, and completely uncared for. She perms her hair every few weeks to keep it straight. She "doesn't have time" for healthier styles so she's an avid blow dryer user.

I'm trying to paint a picture here....

Anyway! One day she came up to me at work and said, "my hair is growing!" and I stood there with a stone face, paralyzed, ... because I couldn't comment at all.

To make matters worse, she continued to talk about her hair and how her husband is noticing her "length" ... almost trying to bait me to also chime in and go, "oh yes it looks great!" even though it looks terrible :(

Give her this www.longhaircareforum.com and tell her to take a look at it.

I can't say disappointed but many people have gotten the side eye from me. I'll be out and hear somebody say "oh yeah so and so's hair is so long its down to her shoulders...blah blah blah" and I'm like

My expectations are higher, too. When people tell me: "Your hair is looonnnggg,!" I don't really think so, because there are heads of hair on this forum that's way better looking than mine. Sure my hair is below bra-clasp length, but its medium--not thick.

Well... I experienced something a little similar. In my case it was my sister. She did the BC and went natural a few months before I did. We both cut our hair down to about an inch or less. For months we would talk about our progress, and finally one day she had her hair straightened for an event. Now, I had only seen pics of her in short twists all these months (we live in different cities), so when she told me her hair was shoulder length I thought "Wow!" It hadn't even been a year yet so here I was calculating how long it may take me to get to shoulder length, then arm pit length...all excited for her! Well, when she sent me a pic it was just neck length. I was soooo disappointed and felt that she lied. So I said "Sis, that doesn't look like shoulder length to me." Then she started saying "well almost, I mean...bla, bla...." So either she doesn't know what shoulder length is or she was exaggerating. I was happy to see it was thick and healthy. Plus neck length was good considering where she started, but I wanted to see what she said, shoulder length!

Oh! I forgot to say thanks for creating this thread because when I brought it up to my daughter and husband, they didn't see what the fuss was. So, now I know I'm not crazy, or not the only hair fanatic! :yep:

Yep. I had a biracial friend who used to brag all the time about her hair being super long. Longer than mine. You know that's a good friend. You have to know about the games black girls play " Mine is longer."

Anyway I finally saw it.....

One half of her hair was earlength and the other half was APL. Well that's when I learned than not all mixed girls have long, healthy hair.

OK, now I think BSL hair is long. But that's me. :look::yep:

Now me, being past SL, I don't think my hair is long AT ALL. But what irks me is that even though I am happy that my dad is proud of my hair. I hate that he goes around telling people about my "long" hair. It's not long, and I feel like he's setting me up to be like in the story above.:lachen:

Funny story though, my sister is a lurker member here. And she told me how my dad told my aunt about my hair, and my aunt was like, well my hair use to be to here, until I had to cut it. So I was like, how long did she say. And my sister was like she pointed to her arm pit. And I was like oh that's great then. And my sister was like yeah, but it was all straggly and thin looking.:lachen::lachen::lachen:

She has been stalking to many fotkis

Can't believe it's ME saying this, but just because it was above SL doesn't mean it wasn't great hair.....

I didn't say it wasn't great, even though it wasn't great.

I wasn't thinking about "greatness".

I actually expected it to be less than great, health wise, since she is not an LHCFer. I know to not expect the average person to have hair like the women here.

BUT she said it was long, and I was looking for length. Period.

I just wanted to clarify, since I knew this would be brought up at some point in time...

:lachen:So basically she was NL?

:lachen::lachen::lachen:I know right? Hell I'm tramatized half the time!

:yep: True, but she was bragging on how everyone hatin cause it was long. Unless of course her family is hatin because their hair is even shorter or damaged.

I think people who try to prove too much unnecessary things are trying to make up for the attention they lack within their lives....but hey if she wants to rant about her butt and hair and being light skinned ( I swear some light skin women make it bad for all of us) more power to her.

-Flaunt yourself as meat and the wolves will come out to ravage you.-

I'll say it....LHCF made me a hair snob, and yes, I've been disappointed by people's "reveals". If someone brags about their long beautiful hair to me, and it's not....I give them the straight face and say "oh really". I used to adore my bff's sister's hair, and everyone in her family puts her on a pedestal because of it....it's so fried and the ends are so thin that I don't even say anything to her about it anymore. The good thing is my bff has told me that I need to step in and help the child lay off the vaseline and flat iron...but I'm sorry, I won't until she asks me herself.

Now I have no problem with a thick, lush NL inverted bob. I'm a sucker for healthy hair. I'd rather see that over thin APL with see-through ends, which is probably why I kept trimming back to barely brushing APL until my ends were thick.

THIS! But I'll save that convo for the OT board...

And I love that quote....

Yes, she was NL, and the hair was shiny but thin and over processed/heat damaged looking ends. It wasn't jacked up per se. But it wasn't healthy looking, nor luscious. I am thinking that her family's hair is short and jacked up. I imagine it looking like that siggy a member had, and she had to actually tell people it wasn't her. :lachen::lachen::lachen:
