..do a really good braid/twist out?!?!?

Mkay--did my hair the night before. Here's what I did:

Co-washed with Giovanni 50:50
DC'ed with ORS Olive Cholesterol (added olive oil with the DC)
Detangled prior to washing out DC
Washed out, put Cantu-Leave-In, and started braiding.

Hair is soft and moisturized, but my braidout looks like..........a curly bush!!!! Ugh, took me forever to make myself look human AT WORK!



Ladies, if you can be so kind and help a newly natural out.........

I would suggest that you make sure your hiar is damp and not wet when you braid it, and add a little wax, hairspray, or pomade, to hold the style, Which ever you prefer. Just a little, and do not remove your braids untill they are fully dry, or you will get a poofy mess lol

I get the best twistouts on 90% dry hair and/or blow dried hair. I'm not natural but I am underprocessed and 5 months post so I know the feeling. Keep trying!

I also find I get the best results when I braid on slightly damp hair. I wash and condition, let completely dry. Usually a product such as the Cantu-leave in will give your the dampness it needs.
But if you were going to go with a whipped shea butter, for instance, then I might not wait for it to completely dry but just until slightly damp or I might just use my spray bottle with a water conditioner mix to add the needed moisture.

If you are doing it on wet hair, you have to make sure it is completely dry before taking them down, and make sure you take them down gently. Antother think that may help is rubbing oil on your hair prior to the takedown.

oh and another thing for me personally, straight up braidouts look horrible on me but doing cornrows instead of loose braids work wonders. You could try doing two rows of 4 or 5 (or however many you deem necessary) and that could do wonders. It did for me.

Okay!!! I had the same problem. I did a perfect braid out and when I tried to do it again it was a terrible curly bush.

I figured it out... wash, condition, and braid the hair while it is still curly!!! When I "detangle" or brush it/comb it out before braiding it it looks terrible. When I keep my natural curls intact and braid it, it turns out wonderful the next day. I also use organic extra virgin coconut oil and some lotta body.

Update: I re-did the braids on dry hair (using Canut LeaveIN and some shea butter) and........














It came out GREAT!!! (sorry if it looks a little frizzy) Oh, what a relief!
