Hey everyone! I hope all is doing well. I haven't been on here for a while. Shame on me. I am though have difficulty. I am relaxed and with the summer fast approaching who dont love those bantu knots beach curls, or the fun waves of braidouts? Well I do! I just have the most difficulty holding up these cute styles more than hour. What techniques do you ladies do to maintain thr style all day...or at least a job shift!

I appreciate all who will read and reply!

Thanks!

I rebraid my hair every single night and my braidout lasts all day, but I am texlaxed I dont know if that makes a difference.

you should use a product with more hold to do the set initially. a diluted setting lotion would work. i've used gel on twistouts, and that helps with the hold. even foam wrap seems like it would work-if it helps with hold on a rollerset, i see no reason why it wouldn't do the same on a bantu knot out or twistout.

i'm natural-by the way.

My braidouts last all of 10 minutes...the time it takes me to walk from my dorm to the caf...by the time I get there its a frizzed out mess. This is a great thread, I had given up on braidouts.

I do this too. I also use gel, preferably ORS loc and twist gel. It's light, my hair is soft and touchable and it lasts all day and the next day if I don't feel like rebraiding it. I just spritz with water to reactivate the gel when I rebraid it -or when I toss it up in a high ponytail at night and go to sleep.

Another trick I've learned is to use glycerin based products at night and not in the morning before I head out the house. If I use them in the morning my hair frizzes up a lot faster. HTH.

OP, you should use something that will help give you some hold but not making your hair hard or stiff. KeraCare makes a great foaming setting lotion. I use it with a little water when doing my twistouts and mine last for about a week.

Great suggestions- there are some anti humidity products on the market as well....
Garnier- makes an anti-humidity milk- which is a leave in
Aveda has a pomade
And Sabino Moisture Block is a serum.

I can relate, because my hair puffs up with the slightest hint of moisture in the air.

You need to use some type of product on your hair for hold before you bantu knot or braid it. Maybe a setting lotion or some type of light hold gel.

Alright, I went to Walgreens to get the Garnier Sleek and Shine Anti-humidity milk! I just did a bantu set on an already frizzed out 2 day old rollerset, and I used a dime size amount to each section and sealed with Vatika oil. I hope it turns out good! I will take them down in the morning and walk to class( the real humidity test) and post the results!

I moisturize my hair everyday. But I normally wear an updo, buns, or an afro puff. So when my hair gets bigger its gets better.:look:

i agree with those who have suggested a setting lotion. although i'm natural, it definitely also works for relaxed heads. my styles last a week to 12 days with the use of setting lotion.

I just watched your youtube vid! Very pretty, I can't wait to try it...I have a whole bottle of setting lotion that I quit using, but I may revisit it now. I'm sick of my style falling after all the time I took to do it!
