For those who are natural and using Megtek for growth, how often are you using it. If you are mixing it with other products please list.
A year ago I used OTC everyday mixed with jojoba oil. After removing my weave, I had severe damage. I'm not sure if it was caused my the OTC or the tightness of the braids, but I want to revisit the growth challenge but using Megateck

^^ Me too! :nono:

I was using it on my scalp while I had my braids in (I was relaxed at the time), and when I took them down????? :nono: The base of my braids were like CEMENT. Needless to say, it was more hollering going on in my bathroom than a Freddy Krueger movie. :nono:

I'm natural now (with a TWA). I'm rocking some individual braids until I get more length. I've toyed with the idea of trying it again, but I snap back to my senses. I don't think I'll EVER mix OCT/MT and weave again. :nono:

Try mixing it with Aloe Vera juice to thin it out a bit. It shouldn't dilute it too much since Aloe vera has polysaccharides in it also.

I've done some research on Mega Tek and bought some yesterday. I'm really excited about seeing the results. From the research that I gathered, it should be used everyday, but it should also be washed out everyday as well. Keeping it in your hair can cause a protein overload which is the cause for the damage and breakage. Some people also experience heavy shedding. I found a couple of great videos on you tube. She recommends cowashing 3-4xs a week after the application. I will post my results after a month. But from what I've seen, it truly works! Good luck beautiful!

I don't use Megatek straight on my braids underneath my weave. I mix it with leave in conditioner and castor oil and I apply it every other or every third day. What I do apply apply everyday to the braids is a leave in moisturizer.

I have locs and use MegaTek once a week. Any more than that and I would have to go in for a maintenance more often than every 5 to 6 weeks because it would make my hair grow too fast. Originally, I was using it 3 times a week. I currently dilute it with Taliah Waajid's African Hair Oyl, but I think I'll switch to aloe vera, but gel instead of juice.

^^^ Thanks so much chameleonchick - btw how are you mixing your MT? Have you found it has helped with your growth?

I also noticed that the AO Primrose leave in spray has Mucopollysaccharides but honestly I cannot stand the smell of that stuff

in a 4oz squirt bottle

about half MT
1-2 TBS oils
Aloe Vera ? ( to fill it up)
10 drops peppermint
10 drops sage

This is a thin consistency.

I think it does but I am doing other things as well(vitamins/chlorella/spirulina), so I am not too sure.

^^^ Cool - I think I might adjust this to incorporate my JBCO as follows;

JBCO 40ML
MT 20ML
Emu Oil 20ML
Aloe Vera 20ML
Peppermint few drops

This is so true. You will ahve to wash your hair often if you use megatek.

I use megatek mix with castor oil and I wash my hair 3x a week.

Maybe I should have been cutting it with some type of oil. But I was cowashing every night, so it wasn't like the OCT was allowed to "sit" or build up on my scalp. I don't know what happened, but it turned out to be a very bad experience for me (and several other people that used it while in braids). So yeah, I hear ya OP.

From now on, I think I'll stick to the BT while I'm in braids, and save the OCT and MT for when my hair is loose and able to be manipulated.

^^^ I think the OCT/ MT was not the problem, but rather the fact that you were using it "NEAT". There are a few threads out there by ladies who experienced protein overload an setbacks by using it neat. I would cut it with your favorite oil or aloe vera or just plain water and apply it to your scalp and continue co-washing as usual. Hope that helps???

While in braids I never applied OCT or Megatek, was too scared. But now that the braids are out, I'm currently applying OCT straight ~4 - 5 times a week. I'm only washing once a week. I must also add that I wear very low manipulation styles like twist, twist-outs and up-dos.

When my OCT runs out, I'll start applying my Megatek. I'm not sure what or if I'll cut it with anything but will not wash my hair more than once a week.

I've used it straight before with no problems, and I used it at least 3 times a week. I'm really lazy but I have half a bottle left. Since I'm natural now I was thinking... but I don't know.

I may try it for a week since I'm in twists. I just don't wanna be wasteful

I also use mine straight and haven't had any issues. I use it about three or four times a week and I wash my hair about three times a week (the days I don't use the MT).

Re: Naturals using Megatek Heavy Pics

As promised, here are the results of using mega tek for 7 weeks. I feel that my hair is thicker, its healthier and I was able to cut off my last inches of bleached hair without losing too much length.
