These relaxers are activated by heat. There is no scalp damage because the ingredients aren't the same as a lye or no lye relaxers. No sodium or calcium hydroxide is in it. So you can't burn your scalp. The relaxer won't even make your hair straight until you activate it by heat for 10 mins. Then you smooth/comb through it to get it straight. you can repeat this 3x in one sitting to get the hair straighter. The hair will never get bone straight. The reason is because it is not using the harsh ingredients that make hair bone straight. This relaxer is meant to only loosen up your curl pattern a little bit. The one I use in New Era Acid Balanced relaxer. activating ingredients is Amonium bisulfite. The ph is 6.0 for regular and 6.4 for super. We all know that others relaxers are alkaline based and have a ph of 12 and 13. water's ph is 7. So you can see this relaxer isn't nearly as damaging even with the heat as the lye and no lye relaxers.

My hair still looks natural. people think I don't have a relaxer because my hair is still so nappy/curly looking. I know there is a huge difference from when I was natural because I don't have as nearly as much shrinkage as before.

^^^^If they are using that relaxer ok I guess, but regular relaxers no sir! Relaxers aren't even supposed to go on your scalp so how does it feel good?

In order to get my newgrowth really straight, relaxer is gonna get on my scalp.

But my hair and scalp is fine. My scalp never burns, or even tingle anyway.

Yea when I used to relax, I think I did the same, but I did burn and I eventually damaged my hair. I just thought you were supposed to apply as close to the scalp as possible without actually getting it on your scalp that's why it's best to have someone apply for you.

Well, a dominican lady I met went to a salon here in my city (not dominican, they were guatemalan I thik) and they put her under the drier with the relaxer and she had burns and LOTS of damage, and she said it was not for 5 minutes, it was from more than that. She had to cut her hair short and get braids(she used to have APL hair).
I wouldn't do it, it is a chemical after all, just follow the instructions from the manufacturer.
