I told SO I want long hair, (WL) yesterday and he says "You have enough. You have to realize that because you're short, (5'4") long hair wouldn't look right on you". I see where he's coming from, just the same as when you have little women wearing big baggy clothes overwhelming their height.

What do you ladies think?

well if you're making the analogy that hair is an accessory then you have to look at it both ways. Yes, some petite ladies do wear baggy, frumpy clothes that look horrible on them. I've also seen petite ladies who are ultra chic and know how to accentuate what God has blessed them with. If you want waist length hair, grow it and accentuate what you got. Sometimes husbands have a hard time visualizing what we are explaining to them, so we just have do it and let them then see the finished product :yep:.

When did 5'4" become "short" ?

I apologize that I can't help since I'm not WL.

:lachen: No intentions to offend, I'd still like the thoughts of those who are not WL:yep:

You mean he thinks he would not like it ( long hair on you )for his reasons.:look:

Yes that was his opinion, just for some perspective on the question. I was asking what everyone else thinks, regardless of their hair length. It was just something to consider. If I want it that badly after all I would do it, I just like to hear different perspectives.

True.:yep:

could that be his way of saying he likes you the way you are?
I know with my DH Many times he means well but his intended compliments have to be interpreted.

I don't think he will ever fully understand my desire/quest for longer hair. If he did I'm sure he would be supportive.

I am 5'2 and have often felt this way. What if my soon-to-be WL hair consumes my whole appearance? Well to be realistic, I am guessing you are natural looking at your avi, in its shrunken state it surely will not be that friggen long. If I decide to wear it strraightened, it would be sleek and there for not overwhelming. Of course we won't be sure until we see it IRL and not a visualization, but I am surely gonna get there before I actually make a decision.

I don't know. I've seen WSL on people of all heights and it varies from person to person. On some people, WSL is just not flattering while on others, it leaves me drooling.

I've seen it before and I know what you're talking about. I'm worried about that too (even though I've got a long way to go). I'd make the decision when I get there though because truth be told, extremely long hair doesn't flatter everyone. But you have to at least try it first to see if it'll work for you.

I have a high waist, about 2-3 inches from MBL, so I don't fear that. But definitely for me of 5'2 wouldn't go longer than that.

Isn't Tracey a "little lady"? I remember reading she was like 5'1 or 5'2. Her WL hair looks absolutely lovely and doesn't overwhelm her. Like you, I am 5'4 and I fully intend on growing my haiir our to MBL + . I don't care if it doesn't flatter me either- I want it, so I am going to get it.

I have thought about it being natural, but I may straighten more as it gets longer. As a fro it would just be huge around my face potentially.:lachen:

Proportions do definitely count. I have a high waist as well, but a short torso, so I'm not sure if that works...:perplexed

Her hair is stunning. Still I haven't seen her full body pics to be able to tell if its "overwhelming" IMHO. Regardless I cannot be able to tell from her how it would look on me.

Traycees HIP length hair looks beautiful and yes she's around 5'1 or so as well. I think it's all in how you wear it. WL hair can look beautiful on anyone if it's styled well...and the person isn't 4'

ETA: She has full body pics on her blog and on KISS. She looks AMAZING!

ETA: Maybe you can get a WL weave or wig and see how it looks...but regardless, how often would you actually wear it straight?

I've seen waist length on short white, asian etc women all the time so when did this rule pop up?

I had an ex tell me long hair wouldn't look good because I'm skinny before. I ignored him.

I think it depends on your body proportions and also what you do with your hair at WL+... if it's blunt cut (or no shape) it's more likely to be overwhelming... the same thing w/ clothes... petite woman can intentionally wear clothes that are not that tightly fitting as long as it has some sort of SHAPE to it.

There's this Asian girl in one of my classes with awesome TBL hair and she's my height (5'2") but very thin... her hair suits her perfectly.

I would say well shaped long hair wouldnt look werid or too much. I actually wanted to go my hair out becasue I saw a short Japanese girl with the cutest cut and WL hair. Before the nI never thought about growing my hair out.

First off, I'm 5'4 and that's not short in my book.

My hair is almost waist length and doesn't overwhelm me at all. I think it'll look great all the way down to my butt. Long hair is / looks right for me.

PS I lol'd at the "you have enough" part of what your SO said.... Have enough for what? for who? lmao

I agree....Its basically what HE wants....

but I say you never know until you get there....if you don't like it...then you can get a hair cut!

I live in New Mexico and I see all of these short Native and Hispanic girls with their waist-hip length hair just swinging :lachen:. I think short, petite girls look the best with very long hair. I think it looks so cute on them. I'm short too (5'2.5") and they remind me daily of what lengths I want to achieve.

I'm 5'2" and I'm MBL with a few inches to go until I reach WSL. I've never received negative comments about my hair overwhelming my petite frame. The only resistance I've ever encountered was when I cut my hair from SL to less than TWA, everyone including my ex-husband said that I looked better with longer hair, to each his own I guess.

Thanks for that, I'll go check it out. Probably to drool first, and if I remember, to think of approx how it might look on me:grin:.
. I would probably wear it straight once a month or so. My hair is not mega thick either (which probably would have me looking like Cousin It on my 100lb self.)

Another opinion...

I agree with your husband. Not on you. But for me.

I am on my way to WL, not there yet, but my hair straightened at MBL or even at BSB looks overwhelming. I'm 5'1". I look like cousin IT. It's just so much hair.

But then I remember my goal and say I'm growing it and keeping it as healthy as I can just because its mine.

ETA: And yes, I can cut it and do whatever I want to it, if it gets to be too much

im considered short about 5'2 ish and my hair is BSB, I dont think WSL is too long for a short girl.

I also think it depends on ones hair density. My hair is not all that dense and relatively fine so my hair compared to someone else with very dense hair is totally different.

Im 5'5 and I have waist grazing hip length hair and I Love the way my hair looks..Go for it.

At 4'10 I had always had long hair (relaxed) and it never looked overwhelming nor did I feel overwhelmed by it. You have to do what YOU'RE comfortable with and what looks best on you. Everyone is different and some things won't look right on everyone but you have to at least see it for yourself :) Before I decided to BC I was about 2" from waist length and my new goal is to have waist length natural hair

I agree with your SO, maybe not wl hair but maybe a little past bsl, but then other races of women that aren't tall do wl why can't we? hmmm i'm torn between the two.

I just recently put in a weave to see how i'd like loooong hair, the 14-16 inces was past bsl and I kind of didn't like it for myself, I actually like shoulder length to an inch or so past apl I think it's more becoming for me.

I'm 5'4 as well.

Good point. For me this is MBL, which I will get to this year (hopefully) and see how it goes from there. I'm not sure about weave, I personally don't like really long fake hair anyway, so to buy it for me would be a waste. Even if it is a trial thing...
