Ladies I need your assitance! I have been on my healthy hair care journey since the end of december, and although it is hard and i get lazy from time to time, i mostly keep up with my reggie. But now im about 6 weeks post relaxer and the crown of my head is so dry. Mind you i moisturize everyday but the inside of my hair is not taking to it. when i try to detangle my hair the outter layers are very easy because they are so moisturized but I can here my hair breaking when i get to the center of my head. Any tips???

Side question... is Aphogee pro-vitamin leave in conditioner protien or moisturizer? How can you tell if what you are buying is a protien or mosturizer, sorry for the dumb question but I think I may have it wrong.

How is your lifestyle (stress-free? getting enough sleep? etc.) diet, and water intake?

For me, it is waaayy more important to monitor what is going on internally, because when those things are on point, a simple regimen is all I need to follow in order for my hair to thrive.

Sorry, I can't comment on the Aphogee; I've never used it. But, I know many other ladies have, so hopefully they'll come in and help. :) In the meantime, I would stop using it, just in case it is protein and therefore, making your hair brittle (protein overload).

My leave-in conditioner is Giovanni Direct, which I only use after washing. When, it comes to daily moisturizing, most of the time, I just use plain water.:look:

Aphogee leave in, 2 minute, 2 step and Green tea are all protein. You look at the ingredients and Words like Keratin, Silk amino acids, and hydrolyzed proteins are protein. :D

Oh and Welcome :)

yes, the aphogee pro-vitamin leave in is a lite protien, how often do you use it?
i use this once about once a week. i use Giovanni direct leave in with it, and my hair stay soft and shiny.

u just have to look at the indgredients to know the diffrence between protien and moisture based... i learned them after a while by reading what the product is supposed to do for the hair.

what else ar eu putting in your hair.?

What kind of comb are you using, when are you coming and hearing the breakage? that sounds rough.

What are you doing step by step with your washing and at what stage do you detangle? do you detangle to the roots?

Moistuize in smaller sections. Experiment with different brands or make your own concoctions. Add oils to your moisturizer or blend different moisturizers together to find that perfect mix for your hair.

Baggying at night helps some people keep the roots soft. When you wake up, it'll be damp, but you can add the product, seal with oil, and style.

The aphogee is a protein, so it may be too much for you. Do an intense DC and start over.

OP mentioned that she is 6 weeks post relaxer.

Oh..thanks...:wallbash:

I was going to suggest deep conditioning, detangling and moisturizing in sections to make sure that all of your hair layers are being treated. This has helped me a lot.

How often do you deep condtion? I like to cowash once every other day. So i try to deep condition once a week or every week and a half. Is this good???

Im using a regular shower wide tooth comb, I havent gotten my bone comb yet. I wash my hair when i dc, which is once a week to once every week and a half. Then i do a regular conditioner where i detangle while still in the shower, then i sit under the heating cap with the dc for about 20. i wash that out, put in my moisturizer and seal and let my hair air dry. I detangle again when im about 90 percent dry, Usually the morning after. i detangle to the roots both times.

When I have a ton of new growth, I use a spray moisturizer. I finger part my hair and spray my new growth directly section by section. Then just apply my cream-based moisurizer on my ends and seal with an oil.

I co-wash 1x and DC 2x a week though so my new growth is usually not very dry. But if it is then I'll use the spray method I just mentioned above.

All proteins are strengthening proteins to some degree but here are more specific characteristics of these proteins:

Collagen Proteins -- known for increasing elasticity in the hair.

Silk Proteins -- known for softening the hair.

Wheat Proteins -- a moisturizing and strengthening protein. Known for increasing the hair's ability to maintain & receive moisture.

Keratin Protein -- responsible for keeping the hair strong and pliable. This is the strongest of the (hair product) proteins and is actually the one hair is made from. This one re-structures hair that has been damaged or broken down by chemicals. It helps to replace the amino acid cysteine which is the main one lost during chemical processing. This is the heavy duty protein. If you see the following as an ingredient:

*a) Keratin protein -- the will re-structure and strengthen the hair cuticle (the outer layer only & the most important layer)

*b) Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein of Keratin Amino Acids -- this means that the Keratin molecules have been broken down and are small enough to go beyond the cuticle and penetrate the hair shaft. It will strengthen all 3 layers of the hair. That is why the term "deep conditioning" technically only refers to this kind of treatment using penetrating proteins.

*c) Hydrolyzed Human Hair Keratin -- This is an exact match for the keratin your hair has (or has lost due to chemical processing). This is the highest quality and most potent keratin that can be used in hair products.

*Vegetable protein -- Vegetable protein absorbs more easily into the hair shaft (than animal protein) and does not create build-up, leaves the hair very shiny, radiant, luxuriant, and healthy.

*Animal protein -- Animal protein breaks down into fatty acids, which coats the hair and create residual build-up.

*Silk Amino Acids/Protein -- Natural Silk is the strongest, natural fiber known to mankind. Discovered in Japan and has been used for centuries in all kinds of products that require durability. Silk has a tiny molecule that can penetrate the entire hair shaft deeper than all other proteins without adding any weight leaving the hair feeling clean and non-greasy.

This was helpful for me about protein.

I will give that a shot, Do you think that will help with my roots being more soft??
Well, it will remove build-up, which can prevent your conditioners from absorbing. Also, try out Tresemee Naturals Silicone-fee Moisture Conditioner (works wonders on my newgrowth .

I DC with heat once a week. You may not notice a huge difference after dcing one time, but it will improve the health of your hair over time. I also clarify every other week bc I use a lot of products with -cones.

Thanks everyone, i have been using nothing but aphogee products on my hair not realizing it was a protien, except for the one that says protien on it. Ugh, no wonder my hair is breaking so bad.
