How long till I can self-relax again after a botched first attempt?

I tried to self relax for the first time and it ended in complete failure. I was so worried about the time listed on the relaxer that I rinsed it out too soon and none of my hair is relaxed. It's exactly how it was before I tried.

So I was wondering how long do I have to wait before I can try again?

Hi Virtuous!!!

You can try again within 4-6 weeks - but in the meantime keep your hair really conditioned....

When I had to do a corrective - I did it 4 weeks after ...there were no adverse effects as I conditioned more than usual the weeks leading up to the corrective and after...

HTH

How long did you leave it on for? I would wait 6 weeks just to be on the safe side. Next time try the 1/2 & 1/2 method. It will take you a little longer but you won't have to move as fast.

I went a tad slow in applying and by the time I started on my front I'd probably been doing it 12 or so minutes and I was trying to adhere to the relaxers rules of 15. I should have thought about it in terms of it being around that much time to fully process, but at least I know now anyway.

Everything's a learning process. I'll make sure to condition while I wait.

Some ladies also add oils (olive, coconut, jojoba, grapeseed) to their relaxer to slow down the processing and to give yourself more time to apply and smooth. This has worked for me in the past. I agree with the others to wait at least 4 to 6 weeks before attempting a corrective. As Sqzbly says - step up your conditioning and I would add doing a protein treatment a week prior to your corrective as well as the week after. HTH!

Any recommended products for Deep conditioning and Protein Treatments? I've decided to become a DIY'er and start to take proper care of my hair.
