Or have a weak one? I have a fair amount of hair but my afros never look right. I have really fine hair so not sure if that has something to do with it.

Mine flops down on top when wet, I have to keep scrunching as it dries (when I do my WnG Curly fro). I can never do the afro that stands up on top. Be bold one day, throw caution to the wind, and let it loose! Let it do what it does.

Lol, maybe someday. The last time I did that was in high school, and this rude kid told me I looked like a weird mushroom  I think it traumatized me.

Riverrock, if you do an afro on stretched 4B hair it will flop. If you use something wet like S Curl, it'll not flop but will curl back and the strands will prop each other up. You can still braid it to get a bit of stretch but with S Curl and maybe a baggy.

Also a pick or a comb with long teeth is best for creating an afro. Short teeth on a comb just won't cut it.

I'm not into afros becuz I think of them more as a trend from the 70's. I'll do a puff or have something like an afro but pulled back in the front. I don't think I will do one anytime soon

I'm guessng I should use the metal picks, like the Kcutter.

That should work although I don't like the KCutter because the handle is in the wrong place (Why is it to the side of the teef?). Good ol' regular picks have the handle in the right place and out of the way for good afro creation.

Girl that was high school. If you like it, that's what matters. If you're still unsure about it do a test run and post a pic here and I'm sure many women will give an honest opinion.

(Yeah I wanna see a fro pic:grin:)

thanks for your honesty, but that was too cute!!:lachen::lachen:

i rocked one for a while, but it was a kinky curly weave. This way, it was "on point" all the time. Naturally, with my hair - the shrinkage starts immediately after combing. Thus i would go to the beauty shop starting out with a 4-5" natural/afro, and by the time i'd get there (40 mins. later), i have maybe 2" to my name. And my head is WAY too big for a 2" shrunken afro.

Lol, well, I'm on a personal challenge to bun until bsl (I'm hoping against hope that I'll make it this year!) but once I make it, or if I decide I don't feel like it anymore, I'll be sure to post a fro pic. :yep:

I wore an afro in college. Very cute. But I noticed I could never get an office job even after 6 months of trying with my BA. The week after I got my hair straightend I had an office job.

And somehow people all think your either part of a cause or somesort of rebel :lachen::lachen::lachen:

This is my second run at going natural so right now I'm rocking a twa, but I loved my afro the first time I was natural and can't wait to get back to that point.

That's the reason I went back to relaxing the last time I was natural. There was no way I was moving up with my fro, but now that I'm a stay at home mom I've decided to go back to my fro.

Yeah people thought I was like a new age black panther or something...lol

I wear an afro sometimes. Ironically, I could only due an afro after I put in a mild texturizer. Before, it seemed like my natural hair just was so tight to my head. Now my afros look even and big.

I understand that you mean a picked out afro. I love them but don't do them much because of all the manipulation of picking it out.

My question is isn't your free form (wash n go), or manipulated(twist outs etc) hair already an afro? My understanding is that an afro is the natural shape that natural hair takes, not as a hair style.

I wear fros all the time but in a puff.

I'd have to pick my curls out for the "official" 70's fro look but I plan on rocking a huge obnoxious, picked out as BIG AS IT WILL GET fro this summer. xD

I LOVE MY FRO!!!
That's why it's so hard for me to keep a protective style
I would much rather be rockin' my fro with some cute earings, tight capri pants, and 4 inch high wedge heels:lachen:

To RiverRock I'd say keep trying....for me pretty much all I had to do was pick it out after I had washed and I had a fro....I can take out any tangles I get from it by braiding it while tangled wetting saturating with slippy condish and detangling ends to roots:yep:

I love rocking fro's another thing I'd recommend is getting adventerous with different forms fro's can take like doing a flat-twist out or bantu knot out for a curly fro, those two styles are awesome because they keep the tangles away and give great definition and shine with no heat necessary:yep:

Fro's can take a million different forms....have fun with it....see what fits your personality and go for it!

/\:lachen: I forgot to add the asterisk saying "I had short shorts on underneath!" lol it was also a heat wave in NYC that summer like 100 degrees so it was too hot for too much "cloves" :giggle:

All you girls that wear a WNG Afro are superduper brave imo. I wouldn't last five minutes in the street with one. I'd rush home the first minute I can and tame that thing with some gel and band it.

loving the bantu knot out BMP

ME TOO!, BlkOnyx. But, then again, I am a child of the 70s.
