What's really good with Janet Jacksons hair??PICS

I thought it some kind of jheri curl, like Wave Nouveau or Wave by Design, like a member here (nakialovesshoes ). They don't look as "jheri-curlish" as they used to; but could easily be described as a "curly perm" w/o a mention of jheri!

That's because "curly" wasn't in back then. The afro was, so even if her hair is type 3 ringlets, they would have picked it out.

My mother told me that her sister who has type 3 hair did this.

I think Janet's natural hair is curly, like the 3rd picture.

I think that might be it.

If you look at my childhood photos you would probably assume that I was a 4a/b, but people forget how versatile our hair is. Our hair can look so different depending on how we care for it and what we do with it after washing it.

My mother only ever used shampoo on my hair (never conditioner or any oils, creams etc) and picked it out daily with a brush :dead:
So, naturally, my hair looks very different nowadays.

And it was indeed popular with the fro-like texture in those days! :yep: Curls or ringlets weren't really in.

Janet's coils look natural to me, but I'm sure there's a possibility that it isn't.

i think its some type of chmeical process we dont know about. like lace wigs, celebs were only getting it and we knew NOTHING about them. what was the point the general public couldnt afford it anyways. so maybe it is a simple texlax or something that hasnt reached us yet. whatever it is i LURVES it :-)

ETA: her siblings hair didnt look like that. micheal( before he completely changed his hair) DID NOT have that hair. thats why he was so self conscious if he did have that texture idc what era it was he would have ROCKED IT!!!

She could def have that kind of texture. When I see pics of her, Rebbie, Latoya, and her mother, I think all their hair is in the 3 range. Their hair is so gorgeous!:yep:

It is her natural texture.

Several of the family members are natural 3's. I am told it comes from Joe's side of the family, I know he is most noted for the nose, but the soft hair and light colored eyes come from him too. (my son has spent time with Joe Jackson, and he made me aware of how different he really looks, says he was a pretty boy for sure back in the day) Mom is a beauty in her own right, not to take anything away from her.

My own hair now being 3a/3b and very fine, was much thicker, and has appeared the same as Janet's at times. Our hair is very versatile as another poster stated. My daughters hair started very fine and was more like mine, her hair is now much like the texture of Janet's 3 pic. As she grows, I am sure it will become fine again as did mine. It's a good thing.

Flowerhair,
I had the same experience as you. I have a picture where my hair looks just like your siggy picture as a little girl. When I look at pictures from my childhood, I always ask my mom why she didn't do "anything" to my hair. I mean nothing. We used the picks/rakes to pick out our hair. We didn't wear it curly. The goal was fro-like texture. It wasn't until the Jheri curl came out and when I wore my hair in a more ringlet/wave look.

I think she is texturized. The pic of her with Michael looks like a child with 4a hair.

I love me some Janet but did you guys see her on Jay Leno the other night? Her nose looks AWFUL!!! She was such a beautiful little girl. Why do women do that to themselves?

It looks like her natural hair texture to me. She's so pretty. I have always admired her!

I just wonder why it is hard for people to believe that might really be her hair texture.

I've been watching some of her interviews, and I hadn't noticed. She still looks stunningly beautiful to me. So elegant and classy, a true lady.

Well, when a person is known to have had various plastic surgeries like breast augmentation (totally unecessary) and several nose jobs (wildly unnecessary) then its not much of a stretch to think that she would also alter her hair to be a looser texture:look:

I still like Janet I think she looks beautiful and they did a great job on her hair:yep:

/\ So true, her hair had more of a natural density to it and it fell to like between SL and APL from what I recall I think curls look awesome on her:yep:

Let me first start off by saying hello! This is my first post ever!

I, like many of you, love Janet as well. We actually celebrate our birthday the same day :)

Anyway, I was looking at an old hairstyle magazine the other day, (March 24, the day of my BC, to be exact) and there was a mini feature on her, and she said that she doesn't put chemicals in her hair, but she does prefer her natural hair short. She stated that she cuts her hair very short after every album, religously. She almost always has either a wig on or hair added.

So, at least at the time the article was written, she was natural but almost never wore it that way.

I have always wondered about her hair, I think its really pretty she seems to have 3c texture.
Does anyone know if this is her natural hair or if she has used any chemicals?

I don't think Janet's a 3c. I'm going back to her Penny days on Good Times. Resembled straight 4a/b to me.

And she's mostly seen in wigs and pieces anyway.

I'm not really sure if she texlaxes but using her hair as a child is not a clear way of telling. Think about how many ladies, myself included, that I didn't know my textures was this way becuase it didn't look like this when I was younger. If she brushed those curls out and styled her hair like Penny it might look the same way it did.

As a child, it looked like classic mismanaged 3c/4a hair to me.

Well thanks for your post... It was so obvious that it was her natural texture, but that's good to know she said it herself:yep:

I think it is her real texture and that she has some really fine, thin hair. Some of the pics, like the last one from OP looks like hair is added

i'm a janet fan too, but celebrities lie about themselves all the time. janet was asked for years if she was married to Rene and she repeatedly lied for 9 years about being married. so i'm not so ready to believe what she says about herself.
