So scared about going natural - but don't want to give up.

My only suggestion is to learn to work with what you have. With all the ladies up here, you can find EVERY single hair type. You can find someone with a similar hairtype and search their strategies and regimens and styling options. I think the worse thing abt going natural is the expectations- everyone expects their hair to look different than it does. It is hard, but all I can say is to just work with whatever texture you have. You also won't be able to tell the true pattern until all the relaxed ends are off..otherwise the relaxed ends are weighing it down. If you get burns from relaxers, then it seems like natural is the only way to go.

I agree with Lexi :yep: While I'm transitioning, I can't tell what my hair will end up looking like, but I know that I will NEVER go back to relaxers so I am mentally ready to deal with my natural hair. Sometimes my hair looks all fluffed up with no curl pattern at all, then it looks like shirley temple curls! It is what it is...

Going natural really isn't THAT big of a deal...unless you make it such...If you don't think you can handle it, then you probably won't. I would start stalking fotkis, finding YT vids of naturals, see what's out there...

Have patience and realize that it may take some time to find what works for your hair, but once you do, it will much easier. 7 years ago, you probably didn't have all the information that you now to manage your hair. Don't give up! There are some beautiful natural ladies on this board (of all hair types) that are truly inspirational. Give it some time. There's also a great Transitioners support thread here.

I understand how you feel. But at just 2 months, I think it's way to early to tell what's going on with your hair. At 6 months I still have no idea what my final curl pattern will be. I also am not a fan of weaves or braids, so I would suggest rollersets and twists.

Mmmh, a statement like "so scared" is an indicator that you may not be ready psychologically(ms) to go natural. Natural hair is FEARLESS. Being natural requires someone that is confident and fierce about their hair--regardless of texture, density or coil size.

The only advice I have for you is to wait until you are ready mentally or get another relaxer. HTH.

Thanks, but it is a big deal to me because it's something I've never had to deal with before. It's going to mean a complete change for me both practically and mentally. So it's important to me to figure out what to do at this stage.

Maybe scared it not the right word, apprehensive probably is. I didn't know that all other women who stopped relaxing didn't feel any way about doing so. I'm not scared about having natural hair, I'm more scared about looking after it and maintaining it, because it's something I've never done before. But maybe I'm not ready. Thanks for the advice!
